  • How does it make the actual noise?

  • I'm sorry, but why did HDD have speakers on them in the first place?

  • Better than Justin Bieber !

  • jeesus the sound quality sucks what is he using to.......ohhh

  • 1 GIGIBYTE??????

  • Will it play dubstep?

  • That song blows

  • best song ever :)

  • ive tried this with mah SSD'z, but it duznt wurk. how doo???

  • FAKE, actualy the printer is hacked to play music.

  • @minematas i say otherwise. ps, you cant hack a printer to tell it to play music... you mod it

  • it is real?

  • @koltder Yes its real XD

  • @koltder yes

  • With a small amp, you cand actually make the needles move more, and the sound is louder.

  • with my ssd it dont works

  • 3 doors down - kryptonite :D

  • I would like to see an SSD try and do this.

  • @TheTurbinator No platters, no sound.

  • WHOA a dell dj!!!!

  • is there a tutorial for this??! i really wanna make that :O!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you sit a paper cup on top of it it works better

  • Well they do use Voice Coil Technology because it is the easiest (perhaps the only) way to accurately move the read arm to the right spot on the platter. Neat trick all the same.

  • i use this system at every hous party...and its work very great :D

  • my nana has that mp3

  • dude- put the speakers on a piece of wood thats not completely flat on the bottom so it vibrates.. then put an aluminum foil square or circle with a weight in the center balanced on the top left edge black metal frame piece that sticks out (if youre looking at the drive, armature on bottom).. they get really really loud.. i was surprised.. its like volume=2 vs volume=10.. try it

  • I introduce you to the NEW HARD DRIVE Spekers for only $2000

  • It is HI-FI sound compared to vast majority of chinesse junk i-shit-pods clones outhere.

  • Umm...are the platters or heads supposed to move?

  • @mustangwings

    Kryptonite

    3 Doors Down

  • song name lol i always wanted to find it but i forgot the artist - name of song please im not joking

  • Blow your speak... hard disk!

  • New use to hard-drives: portables speakers.

You can both store and listen musics on them! lol

  • u had to have made the speakers

  • this is gay

  • @nathanialmunir are gay

  • I miss my zooporn when my HDD failed on me ;_;

  • They made 1gb hardrive's wtf???? you can get 8Gb on a memory stick now!

  • @Technobanana The ST506 Had only 5 mbs

  • @Technobanana actually i got a 32 gb memory stick

  • @Technobanana My first hard drive was 40MB.

  • @erod550 It's amazing how fast technology moves, isn't it?

  • lol the left side disk is gone :O

  • I love that song! I cant rember who it is by though.... and the name of it too, Thank you!

  • @DJelectfire its kriptainit its hard to spell

  • you can do the same thing with every electric motor, no hdd required

  • this had been comming up in my recommended for months so i finally take a look and...its crap - any idiot can rig this

  • @mastergx1 make a vid, let's see you rig it.

  • Ow.. my ears.

  • +1 for 3 Doors Down

  • good choice of song :)

  • whats the point of making those?

  • @cjoenic what's the point in your question?

  • where did you connect those wires?

  • @rhojdawn Find the coil (very obvious) and trace the wires to 2 terminals and connect it there.

  • @304Stephen --- tnx for the info

  • Comment removed

  • 1:18 Explain that you retard.

  • @imafurryhusky I assume you are either talking about the wire connected to the HDD arm, or the movement that can be seen by the arm.

Both are easy to explain. The movement you can see if creating the music that can be heard, in a similar fashion to how a normal speaker works.

The wire connected to it would be connected to the magnetic drive of the HDD arm, creating the movement.

  • i know how it works.... just proving ziffer90 wrong...

  • @imafurryhusky Don't have to go ape shit but, assume you are a " Know it all"... can i ask you how this works? I know im just asking you

  • @Ravagar Old HDs had stepping motors controlling the head arms. The new HDs use voice coils instead. Voice coil in this case is a very tiny speaker without the large membrane to vibrate. That is why this is so quiet.

  • @ziffer90

    You are retarded, sorry. Lrn2magnetism.

  • On left (white) is Western Digital Caviar, on right (black) is Fujitsu :D

  • definatly a win

  • funny :D ,but smart :D

  • hää? wie funzt das?

  • electromagnetism is awesome

  • You can play music with any low voltage motor:)

  • lol

  • bahahaha

  • piezo effect

  • If they worked or not doesn't matter. They were 1GB!

  • whats the name of the song? xD

  • kyptonite, by three doors down

  • 3 doors down is the artist the name i've forget

  • @pocketbikefreak666 ;

    3 doors down - kryptonite

  • three doors down - superman

    xD

  • no its kryptonite

  • oops yeah your right xD silly me

  • a 1GB hard drive is a waste of electricity already.

  • @echeesekid patetic person produce patetic video with patetic thing and shit result. the world is sick.

  • ? lol !

  • if the platter was spinning, would it help the sound?

  • nice song :)

  • is it true?

  • yes!!!!

  • 3 doors down! :D

  • dell dj :D

  • AW, dude i need to do this sometime!

  • can u please explain me how to do it?

  • i tried this if u solder the heads down it sounds better

  • throw back 3 doors down love that song damn cant belive that was 9 years ago i was in the 6th grade

  • Is the one with the platters still on louder? I wonder what kind of effect those have on the sound.

  • The hard drive arms are being powered by the headphone cables that are hooked up to them.

  • the hard drives arms are powered by the stereo output. it's real.

  • obviosly you know nothing about anything. anything with a motor can produce sound dumbass. same concept as if you hook up a speaker to a mic jack, it works as a mic.

  • and a mic works as headphones...

  • what? how?

  • just plug the mic into a headphone slot, it must have the same fittingto work, so like a headphone slot on a tv for egsample, ity musthave that fitting

  • but what i didn't know is that anything with a motor can produce sound... so a broken cd drive can produce sound?? (bcoz of the motor?)

(and not using the drive to play music lol)

  • connect them to a small amplifier and they will sound a lot louder, and take off the disks, let the heads free!! i used a 20w amplifier for this experiment and it worked really well.

  • gimme a break like

  • it's real btw

  • i have a very large amount of storage in this 10GB HDD

    lol

  • Interesting but I don't think wharfedale have too much to worry about yet

  • i ruined my 180gb and 6gb drive trying to make this shit.

  • Nice job. Should have used hard drives you didn't give two shits about.

  • he said he uses two old 1 GB hard drives, if you think those are useful today, then wow.

  • I don't think he cares about them...12 years ago computers shipped with more than 1GB.

  • LOL

  • lol they make 1 gb hardives that big?

  • HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHA. Are u new to computers?! Even ~200MB drivers are in 3,5" format.

  • back in the day they did, youngling......

  • the motor might work, but the drives themselves might be buggered

  • This is a very simple example of the properties of inductive reaction when energy is applied to a coil. The coil and the drive seek arm are essentially action together creating the necessary air movement in response to the alternating energy applied to create sound.

  • Thanks, i just found a use for my old Xbox hardrivve, i been trying to put it in my PC to expand the memory by 20gb's but since its imposible ill turn them into speakers instead! =-D

  • why is it impossible?

  • why would u waste a hdd bay with a 20gb drive lol

  • A 20GB drive is ancient, and throw away no matter the condition.

  • wow. spoiled much?

  • dude they have memory sticks that can hold that much.

  • well speakers cost a lot and I actually keep my dead HDD's so great Idea... will be doing this one day

  • Yeah good idea, the quality of harddisk-speakers is much better than anything that you can buy :P

  • haha^ they really do sound like shit

  • LOL but better than nothing right? 3.d.d. sounds good on that hard drive lmao!

lol i remember that video with the old guy (he was a hero) i use to call him the "old guy that could!" lmao

  • where shud u connect the audio lines??wil it giv d power too??i got a 160 gb hd dat juz went dead n m planning to do this

  • O_O

  • its the motor

  • It's actually not. There's two solder points on the plastic part of the arm, positive and negative. Just solder the red wire to one and the white or black to the other. :)

  • why dont u use normal speakers!?

  • because these look cooler

  • What's the fun in using normal speakers?!

  • The fun in using these is that you're using something that you don't usually see performing this purpose (acting as speakers). If you prefer to use your same old speakers, go ahead, but others like the concept of using something else, which, in this case, is old hard drives.

  • i cant wait till someone figures out how to make an SSD speaker (XD, that'd be something!)

  • lol that'd be interesting

  • riiiiigggghhhhtt good luck with that

  • thanks LOL! i know it wont happen, SOLID STATE, just a cool lil joke

  • what about if we use a raptor?

  • they are louder with the disks

  • stereo ^^ dolby digital ^^

  • how did connect the mp3 to them

  • With 80gb drive it's 80w lol

  • naspa rau:))

  • i think the white hd would be louder if the metal were there

  • The platter you mean?

  • whats da song?

  • 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

  • thanks

  • that's one fuckin' expensive speaker bro lol...but cool concept!

  • hahahhahahah :)

  • all i can say is LOL

  • Can you make it 5.1 surround

  • Sure you can, you just need 5.1 input and the .1 will not have a Jackhammer Bass but an mobilephone bass or just a little bit more

  • woah those are pretty efficient if they can run off of an unamplified signal

  • maybe a little bit louder then ipod head phones, still not bad

  • It's 100%100 true guys.

Writer heads magnet + electromagnets ;)

  • cool

  • kryypptoniitee :)

  • That's pretty neat!

  • Hmm sound is low because power from normal headset socket is too small :(. True its cool i have an old GB dead HDD, so if you can post video how to make it i will make it.

  • Where exactly does the sound come from? I'm trying to understand.

  • the arms are vibrating making the sound

  • So?

  • if you use an amplifier, the sound is much better ;)

  • Yeah, if you want to blow out the HDD's.

  • I'm driving my Speaker with a 18Watt Amplifier, sound is really good, (but the Camera not :P).

  • i threw two of those away with my pakward computer they had 1gb each and they had 16mb ram sticks

  • Pentium 150, Win 95? My first Windows computer.

It ate CD-rom drives. 3! The 14 inch monitor lost the red channel, giving weird bluish images. The keyboard and mouse were also worn down. Threw them away, my in-laws still have it, with a dead CD-ROM drive. Great computer, apart from the CD-ROM drive hunger.

  • 3 doors down :D..... cool stuff :)

  • is there no disc on the left hard drive?

  • 3.4 TBs + memory cards et al

  • Is it RAIDMP4 ? :D

  • jajaja, curada
