I bought a Foo Fighters CD, some of the pictures in it from the Foo Fighters where actually Nirvana. Dave uses a Mesa amp for distortion, Kurt used pedals (mainly Boss, but rarely a ProCo RAT or Big Muff Pi) it showed Dave wrapping up guitar cables and holding a ProCo RAT pedal, another where the speaker cab in the background had black duct tape over the Marshall logo, just like what Kurt did.

It's his band ... I think more of him doing it his way then trying to copy Kurts style and fake a Nirvana sound...
