Threading is actually there to attach the grenade launcher, which looks basically identical to the one on the Yugoslavian PaP59/66A1 SKS (basically a ringed tube that fits onto the end of the barrel).
The grenades themselves look basically like the old 3.5 inch bazooka rounds (finned in the back, shaped in the front), and you can actually use the launcher to fire the old US rifle grenade adapters fitted with a golf or tennis ball and play rocket golf with them.
Having a price comparable to an AR defeats 50% of the whole purpose of the AK's existence. It's supposed to be inexpensive & simple to use & maintain. I might get 1 of these 1 day but I'm addicted to AR's ergonomics.

@MrGreatshot I have never seen a bolt hold open on an AK. I have the same rifle and thought my bolt held open. I held it by the top of the barrel and with little effort taped the butt stock on the floor. The carrier assembly slammed home sharply! It startled me for the moment! I called Century Arms and spoke to someone who was supposedly a Yugo AK knowledgeable person. I asked him a simple question. Can I shoot steel case ammo in my Yugo M70 ab2 and not harm the rifle? Serbian made AK47 variant best AK ever made even Kalashnikov said so when he visited Zastava couple of years ago. M70 proved very deadly and realiable in ex YU wars and it is still in service due to be replaced with new Zastava M21 AK-variant. Excellent weapon with deadly 7.62 deadly even if you get shot in the shoulder area due to hydrostatic shock. Anyway good review.

Thank you for that nice review. No practical purpose? Hmmm... people have been finding lots of uses for the AK family for over 50 years. Remember, the 2nd amendment was not created so people could have guns for hunting. When/If the SHTF, you will see lots of AKs coming out of closets and finding practical purposes, not target shooting though. Just about the most practical gun ever made.

@ErnestoIbarra25516 I,may think I can help you since I used it in the Serbian army. First check gas chamber for cracks, and clean it well. Also clean gas piston. Or may be you have a magazine problem, try some other magazine brand. I never had a problem with it's mechanism and i shot a lot of with it. Only problem I ever had is with a magazine. I hope I helped.
i think that is a bolt hold feature because this model has a gernade site on it.the bolt hold is so you can put a blank in the chamber quickly when shooting a gernade

i have this same rifle. very sturdy akm. i say akm because not all the parts are interchangable like on ak-47's. the barrel is actually 1/2" longer than a standard ak-47. it's more heavy duty than other ak's or akm's being it's designed to shoot rpg's as well. also the sturdiness and the 1/2" extra barrell makes this rifle quite a bit more accurate than most other ak's
I just picked up one of these M70AB2 rifles today (12/12/09) for $660... helluva increase since "a few years ago", but at least as a bonus the dealer threw in 5 30-rnd steel magazines and 100rnds of Golden Tiger ammo. Everything I've seen online about this rifle tells me I made a good choice over the Romanian WASR-10 that was also available. Anyway, good video, you made some good points during it. I'm looking forward to the next day at the range. :)

I have had the fortune of having a 1987 made while in the army (Serbian army) two years ago. It was the same model (AB2), but with a wooden grip. I can vouch for the reliability. If you take care of the rifle, clean in after using it - it will last for decades. It is really precise up to 400 meters (400 meters lying down - 200 meters standing up, crouching).
There is no bolt hold open on this AK. The bolt is only hanging. The magazine has a bolt open, but as soon as it's removed, the bolt will slam forward. Nice review.
As I said, the bolt is only hanging. I've had AK's that have done that before too. If he were to knock the gun hard on an object, then the bolt would slam forward.
ah ok. Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it I do remember hearing on a few forums that many ak's will hang the bolt if you cycle it slowly and fully to the rear. I believe the yugo's receiver is 1.6mm thick compared to 1mm as most other AK copies... Great rifle. I might grab one this weekend for around $500

I have had the fortune of having a 1987 made while in the army (Serbian army) two years ago. It was the same model (AB2), but with a wooden grip. I can vouch for the reliability. If you take care of the rifle, clean in after using it - it will last for decades. It is really precise up to 400 meters (400 meters lying down - 200 meters standing up, crouching).

There is no bolt hold open on this AK. The bolt is only hanging. The magazine has a bolt open, but as soon as it's removed, the bolt will slam forward. Nice review.

he had the bolt held open without the magazine inserted ?? Doesn't that mean it DOES have a bolt hold-open on the gun itself ?

As I said, the bolt is only hanging. I've had AK's that have done that before too. If he were to knock the gun hard on an object, then the bolt would slam forward.

Yeah. Very early Yugoslovian AK's did have an actual bolt hold open device, but they later took it for when they made a more cost effective rifle.

ah ok. Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it I do remember hearing on a few forums that many ak's will hang the bolt if you cycle it slowly and fully to the rear. As you can tell I'm completely new to the AK side of things, so I guess I'll begin the learning experience when i hit up J&G Sales on Monday.... Thx again

I think the SKS is a fine rifle for sure.
The Ak22 well you either get a good one or a lemon so its a gamble but cheap on ammo.Thanks for the comment 4638JL
