  • Sounds awesome! Takes me back to my youth :D

  • There was a groove in the original studio recording of this song that he never has been able to re-capture on stage-- and I really doubt if Gino really attempted to either.. The syncopated interplay between the bass /keyboard/drums on the recording was so original and precise and identifiable and I still consider it to be one of the finest recordings of 70's pop.

  • che mostri di bravura!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!

  • Amazing

  • I never missed an opportunity to see Gino in concert at the Omni in Atlanta during the 70-80s. What a SHOWMAN and what a FABULOUS Band! Silky, Sexy, Sultry, Satin Voice ... (what more can I say? lol) Sculpted Body, Perfectly Chiseled Features, BeautiuL Man... Sensitive, Unique, Unsurpassed Talented, Gifted! They just DON'T make them like this anymore. Gino's music puts him in a CLASS of his OWN!

  • Love the slight pause before the drummer hits the cymbal at :36. Nuance!

  • Great sounds,movie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Grande Gino!!!

  • He is not a true artist, HE IS THE ARTIST!

  • As a musician and Gino fan. His shows have been sequenced for years. Percussion, string, brass, bass, etc. I spoke with both Joe and Gino before a show in the early nineties. That night their computer froze at the beginning of the show. The techs quickly rebooted and fixed it and all went smooth. It was a great show in a small club setting. The original parts were done one note at a time on monophonic Korg synths. At one time he had 4 keyboardists with him. This make s more sense to me.

  • One of Canada's greats hands down!

  • Gino in great shape here and a hell of a band.

    Everything fells right into place!

One of the best versions of this song for me.

    A top performance!

  • GREAT to see Gino Vannelli -- WHAT a voice !!

    ...and...

-- Reinhardt Melz on drums - phenomenal drummer !!

-- Allen Hinds on guitar - just a great guitarist !

    -- Sandin Wilson on bass - fantastic 6-string groove-meister !

-- Randy Porter on keyboards - tremendous ! ( yes - the keyboard horn parts are sequenced )

It just doesn't get much better than that.

  • What year was this performance?

  • Damn...he rocks it better today than he did 30 years ago!

  • Oh yes, he would. Just compare their versions of this song on youtube. Enzo is like Neil Peart to Reinhardt's Cobham. It's not even close, really. But you can like whatever you like.

  • I prefer Enzo Todesco before Reinhart Meltz in drumming ..

  • @snorhyveln

    Reinhardt would eat Enzo.

  • @TheLastPictureShow

    Absolutely NOT!!

  • Gino's move at 2:02 is slick!! hehehe

This band really grooves...Allen Hinds is suck a kickass guitar player.

  • A comment about using reinforcment....the band is nothing more then a tool that the "Star" uses to do his job. people are there to see and hear gino..not the band. If the Star needs or wants a little something extra to enhance HIS audiences appreciation and further respect for him as an artist, then its his prerogative to do so. After all Gino is paying the bands salary. I was in show business 20 years as a professional singer. I did entire shows with backup tracks. I know from where I speak

  • @JohnMichael52

you are right, however human input from very talented musicians can stimulate a singer to give an even a greater performance that night then when using mechanical robotic tape back-ups. Face it, there are nights a voice sounds like as if from heaven, but there are also those nights when one hopes the music ends soon.

  • @havenoneatall Ya know I forgot whose comment I originally replied to. So Im going to agree with you...yes live musicians make all the difference. I never really benifited from playing with bands during my career because no one wanted to hire a male vocalist to just sing. They wanted you to play an instrument as well. Females could get a gig just singing, but not me. Not sure where this mentality came from, but needless to say I had to usually perform as a single act.

  • masterful mastery!

  • UAU!! What a great experience ...Talented people doing what they LOVE best!!!!

  • everyoneisjosh, I hear ya

  • by the way I talked to Sandin Wilson for about 45 minutes before the show here last year and he was telling about his blend of synth bass and real bass that he gets from this funky old pedal that he found that's out of production

  • But that's dick all man, the complete body of the track is being covered by real players. a little reinforcement perhaps on the horns etc, whatever! These guys are great players playing for real. I think it's dumb that you're picking them to criticize. Like I said why don't you blog on the myriad of pop stars videos that run practically EVERYTHING off of protools and if you turned off their protools and their autotune it would like someones first night in prison.

  • I think you've misconstrued my intent. I'm by no means criticizing them for using a reinforcement track! Quite the contrary, I was originally responding to another commenter who seemed to be implying that there was no way they could be playing to a track because doing so would somehow cheapen the performance. I've certainly played on plenty of gigs with a backing track before, and I'm all in favor of using one if it benefits the overall presentation of the music (as it does in this case).

  • everyoneisjosh, you crack me up! Let's hear you play like this. Gino always has wicked players. I saw them when they were in town, ... no backing tracks. I've been in the business 30 years and I think I'd know plus I knew the horn players that he hired to do the show that night. It's a stupid point anyway, why don't you blog on Britney Spears youtube videos.

  • Really, listen to the tambourine during the drum solo. Who is playing it if there's no track?

  • A true blue artist...all the way! He puts out a really great show all the time...hands down!

  • so what if he has some sequenced tracks? Those players obviously know their stuff and he sings hot like fire! looooove Gino!

    "El pelo.."! lolol!!

  • This band ALWAYS plays to a backing track. I specifically asked Reinhardt about this once. Everyone calm down. Acts like Gino do it all the time.

  • Can anybody have more fun than the bassist? Keep movin' Gino!

  • This is absolutely topsport! Miss Gino. I saw Gino with his Dutch musicians playing in Holland, at 'the Boerderij' in Zoetermeer. Hope he'll be back in his 'low lands' soon!

  • extra synths...who cares?

    It's Gino all the way.

He doesn't have to fake it like most people do.

    Gifted? Genius? Inspiration?

    Yes!

    And a Canadian too!

  • I went on a cruise where a gentleman played guitar with a computer that filled the back up. It's Gino's vocals that grab me the back up is back up.

  • EL PELO........ EL PELO !!!!!!!

  • using "backing tracks" with a live band is all about get the parts from the cd happening live with incouring massive costs. As most top session players start at $200 a night. so you can add it up if they used only musicians it would be in the $3000 to $4000 range which no one is willing to pay.

  • a session player gets way more than 200 a night.

These guys are session players I know them.

    There aren't any backing tracks

  • Great performance!!!!!!

  • I"m not knocking them for the doing this because it's standard practice now . All of Earth Wind and Fires live videos have been over-dubbed which is disappointing....and their amazing background vocals are all sequenced when they perform live. They can't duplicate the perfectly processed and edited harmony parts live so they just sampled them and play them through a sequence . Sad....but what are you gonna do ? :)

  • This is either sequenced or overdubbed , but I can't take anything away from Gino Vanelli . He's a perfectionist and a true master of his art . I don't see his brother Joe performing with hime anymore...I wonder what he's up to ?

  • superb!

  • Oh man, Reinhardt is KILLING me on this one. All those fantastic Portland musicians onstage together is just too much to take.

  • Gino rocked this one, yeah baby!!

  • Now that I've seen this video multiple times I like the small club setting rather than the big arena setting. It's a bit more intimate don't you agree? It really shows how tight the band is and complements Gino's voice this is the kind of venue I'd like to see him perform in. A true artist!

  • All I can say is go see him in concert. He is the real deal still....GO GINO You gotta move you gotta groove..

  • I'll have to take you up on that - next time he's in So Cal.

    Thanks Storm!

  • Gino is amazing . His voice and even his looks have not changed a lick . Only sad note is that alot of these new videos are not truly live (in the live sense)as there are obvious bass and keyboard parts that are sequenced . But hey.....Gino is live.....and Gino is the focus .

  • Sorry Johnnie, no sequencing. You're hearing effects on Sandin Wilson's bass and the patches Randy Porter's using on his keyboard. I hear don't hear anything I'm not seeing.

  • You must not be a musician . The keyboard player is playing the Rhodes part....but can't you hear the synth (horn) part ? Sorry....but I'm an accomplished keyboard player....and there are multiple keyboard parts playing (separate parts)....this is not rocket science :) Listen to the background synth hits "DURING" the keyboard solo . Come on.....trust me dude.......it's sequenced !

  • Johnnie you're roght. There's another keyboard on the background at some points. Well heard. :-)

  • Thank You :) It's frustrating to try to explain the obvious to some people who are so set in their opinion . Actually....the keyboard player is only playing the Fender Rhodes part and the horn (synth) patch is ALL added either by sequence or by overdubbing . In addition....the guitar parts do not match what the player is playing (especially 103 - 106)...which makes me think that they added post production to the entire track . The drums and Gino are the only ones who seem live .

  • The band is DEFINITELY using sequenced tracks. In fact, this is pretty much the same exact track used on the 1991 tour, with just a minor embellishment at the end. All Randy is playing is the Wurlitzer sound. There is also a percussion track playing along with the synth brass track.

  • Yes, its obvious there is a synth part to this music and that the keyboard player is playing the e-piano (looks like a Yamaha).

  • Gino being Gino....awesome...the guy's vocals are impeccable ...if you dont believe me...go see him live!

  • capo total!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Du vraie Gino comme on l,aime .....

  • Best fusion of rock and jazz, a terrific talent and wonderful voice - Gino is great!

  • thanks for posting... who's the drummer? what a player

  • The drummers name is Reinhardt Metz

  • Wow! It's refreshing to see Gino enjoy performing one of his first hits in a style so close to the original recording. He and his accompanists modify the arrangements to his classics so much, it's a pleasant surprise to see it done the old way.... and with verve!

  • Thanks for sharing....

  • I like this LIVE version better than the album version--it rocks. Gino is amazing!!!

  • Gino and his band sound inspired. I'm sure Gino still drives the gals nuts. What year is this? Great music!

  • One word...Awasome!!

  • ¿Fabuloso! Me trae muchos recuerdos...

    Un saludo,

    Elsa.

  • Love the drummer!!!!

    Jone K OF OHIO

  • Reinhardt Melz from Portland, Oregon. He's the man.

  • Killer musicians. Think Joe's still got the keys though....thats him on the sequenced brass. Drummer sounds like he knows what he's doin! Arrangement rivals Live in Montreal

  • oh yeahhhh my friends Gino Keeps sound like the best!!!

  • Amazing!

The musicians are incredible! The drummer is exceptionally good!

  • That's my boy reinhardt.. yeah, he's the man!

He's the guy on my CD, too.

Reinhardt and I just recorded Gino's next album. Going to sound amazing!

  • Just had to see what happened when you hit "spam". OK, I'll grow up now.

  • WOW! Superior video/audio for a maybe best ever performance of a Gino classic. This line-up of musicians could not be any better!
