Linux on the ps3 is best for running emulators and playing roms (nes, snes, sega, psx) classic games. And to everyone that asked linux is totally legal to run. (only works on the phat systems tho)
the difference is that in my opinion ubuntu has a better way 2 manage things than yellowdog. and the stuff that ubuntu offers is more updated than yellowdog. the only 3 things i like about yellow dog is faster browsing, the dock, and the option 2 reboot 2 XMB with 1 click

3D software idk. it might be possible that it will run but u have 2 have all programs closed cuz of its memory which is 256MB. video editing software hmmm idk i didn't know they have video editing software 4 ubuntu. it should be the same results as a 3D software
well i would recommend ubuntu. its good 4 basic use of viewing webpages, flashplayer 9 well some1 mentioned how 2 get it 2 work in my ubuntu 9.04 review video, and word processor/office like well it has them included and its very good with that
i think the YDL is a faster OS from checking out all reviews. so im downloading that. hoping the bluetooth works wiht my keyboard and mouse. if not ill have to buy the wired ones until i figure out how i can use my bluetooth stuff. ill let you know also right when i find out. thanks dude... n enjoy that TV.

thanks. well they both use the same resolution & browsing capability they both have firefox but YDL has their own flash which personally i think they need 2 update it. i didn't find that it will work well with me. thats good with the hard drive space but if ur planning 2 install it u can have the ps3 partition 10GB 4 linux. u have 2 back it up be4 partitioning or else u lose all ur files. bluetooth keyboard and mouse idk. it should work though. i personally don't have 1 2 test that out
actually u can't becuz 1 it is missing the files that the ps3 is able 2 boot in2 linux 4 that os and 2 the architecture is made differently. u can get a PPC version of it but still it won't work becuz it doesn't have the files 4 the ps3 2 boot 4 that linux. u must get either the original ps3 version of ubuntu or the alternative ubuntu version that is made 4 the ps3
thanks. well kinda but from wat i understand the ps3 has 2 use a specific speed on the hard drive. it has 2 use 5,400 RPM hard drives. if the ps3 was able 2 take 7,200 RPM then it would've go faster than it is. but wat makes it slow is the available memory on the ps3. it use 256MB 4 linux. 512MB 4 XMB

if virtual disc drive is 4 linux then yeah. metal gear solid 4 is not 4 linux. 1 cuz the game is not 4 linux and 2 it requires almost the whole memory that the ps3 provides. when u r using linux on the ps3 u only have 256MB of RAM available. there is no way that u can increase it and upgrade it.
