  • What was Hitler and Germany thinking they were never going to beat the RAF

  • @stevg8liverpool At first the Luftwaffe bombed the RAF airfields and they nearly succeded because the air resistance of the Brits getting weaker and weaker a day but than Reichsmarschall Göring wanted London as target. He was high intelligent (iq 138) but also an very glamour addicted man. And Hitler hadn't any idea of air battles so he said yes to Görings plan.

The RAF could rebuild their airfields and fighters could start again in huge numbers. Plus the fact that you had bloody good pilots : )

  • @stevg8liverpool The Luftwaffe's problem also was they were always switching targets, never focusing on one.

  • If I ruled my own country, this is what would be my national anthem.

  • The film is utterly fantastic. I don't try to be patriotic but it really does stir a sense of pride and patriotic fervour, it would teach the younger generation a thing or two about their rich heritage. However, what I was actually going to say is that it shows the fantastic contributions made by the commonwealth ( The battle would have been lost without them ) and equally our comrades in arms the Poles, Czechs, Slovakians, Belgians, French and Irish who gave their all to defend this Island.

  • When the P-51 Mustang arrived and got the excellent Packard built Merlin engine they shot down nearly 5,000 German aircraft....a stupendous total.

  • @FlierFrank172 Anglo-American engineering at its finest.

  • @FlierFrank172 though its a shame that they produced the p51 over the brilliant corsair.

Whatever factories were optimized for what i suppose.

  • EXCELLENT march....BRAVO!

  • ....and they say this film is pure British propaganda. If I was German i would be extremely proud, the film gives them a lot of credit. This march is brilliant!!!!

  • I always thought this would be great during commencement exercises from an institute of higher learning! Love it!

  • and now another 4 dislikes from me109 pilots who couldn't out fly Spitfires

  • I love this march and many of my friends in the world of theatre organ do as well. It's great stirring music.Where can I get the sheet music?

  • Amazing

  • Sorry for the spelling messups, typed too fast.

  • I was proud to know Adolph Dworack in th 1970's to 1982. He fought the Nazi's from start to finish, first as ground crew and piolet in Poland, then in th R.A.F. Polish squadron. Now those were men in their time.

  • Proud to be British

  • In the movie they said something like stilgestanden the whole time

    Awesome song

  • "Dont just yell, ring like ell!!"

  • Don't you yell at me Mr warick! family favourite that one!

  • MUSIC like THIS is how my ears get laid.

  • @horselips

no immaturity please, lets enjoy the music of the much loved and sadly dead, Ron Goodwin.

  • great! love it :)

  • Originally titled "Luftwaffe march" but changed so as not to offend. How unusual!!

  • "if i see ine more bomber i am not recomending you for a premotion"

  • The Luftwaffe would of loved this march back in the old days!

  • @marcusantonius90 Are you an idiot?

  • "goodafternoon my arse yyyooooouuuuu bosch bastard!!!"

love that line from the film

  • @liverpoolmatt87 Well, my dear, when "Seelöwe" had succeeded you surely would not experience the things in the UK, you experience now.

  • @burqabob just reciting a line from the film that is all dear fellow :)

  • @liverpoolmatt87 ''REPEAT PLEASSSSSS''

  • @plugs313 " 2, 0 , 8 , 3....stop that polish chit chat "

  • @liverpoolmatt87 My alltime favorite movie...

  • Walton didn't write a bad note in all his life. A true genius.

  • Updated! Addition 2 ME109 pilots joined the ranks of dislikes and went down in flames.

  • @cwmak70 Bob Stanford Tuck would think that as a liable comment.

  • @jagdflieger100 "Fly For Your Life" by Larry Forrester. A must read.

  • the modern Deutsche Luftwaffe should steal this march

  • @LeRinkRat hmm i think this song is a bad memory for the luftwaffe

  • @LeRinkRat eh, only thing is...wouldn't really go to well together with the modern planes

  • where can i download

  • I love this poster.

It like to war time propaganda poster rather than film poster.

  • man I really want to hear this at a parade. Does anyone have the sheet music for this, or even better, guitar tabs for this?

  • Epitome of the Luftwaffe atmosphere which this classic film captures. Prefer "Spitfire Prelude" though....

  • superb. used to play the video just to hear this again. a real stomper.

  • superb. used to play the video just to hear this again. a real stomper.

  • This has to be the best military march tune ever written ! ! There was a segment on ABC radio some time ago asking listeners to ring in with their favorite tune for, as Derek Guille the compare so quaintly put it : "Girding on your loins music" ! ! This one has to take the cake. Testosterone with just the right amount of elegance pomp and class.

  • 5 dislikes are from Heinkel 111 crew that has been shot down!

  • @deltaserdel Very funny my good man !

  • @deltaserdel hahahah internet-related humour. gotta love it

  • @deltaserdel LOL

  • @deltaserdel Did they object to the music or to being shot down?

  • @deltaserdel don't forget the Ju-88s and D0-17s

  • @deltaserdel hahaha! it's nine now

  • @deltaserdel And a further 4 for the Messerschmitts escorting them.

  • @deltaserdel 4 more dislikes for Messerschmit 109 pilots that were shot down

  • The perfect marching tune!!!

  • hïhi_pässt_hìèr_ñët_rêïn_ábâ_ich_bin_sö_eínsâm_will_jémånd_mit_miâ_schrèïbèñ

  • Now I have to stay up all night and watch the entire movie! Great music. Great movie.

  • Fantastic bass part.

  • Although this is a march composed to be a 'German March', it is a great tune to be played in British parades or cememonies.

  • 4 people are children

  • 4 people are children

  • This'll always be the 'Luftwaffe March' to me and not 'Aces High'.

  • often mistaken as a german march, but it is actually a british one, germans call it the luftwaffer march, its a music masterclass for a marching song:O)

  • This was our chosen piece for our passing-out in 1981. Ironic.

  • This would make excellent background music for an election advertisement. Nothing to spice up a voters' campaign than some good old-fashioned marching music!

  • Goodwin really out Krauted the Krauts with this one. Great stuff.

  • @LJBCRT Sure did!

  • @LJBCRT see Prussia's Glory (on you tube) written after the Franco-Prussian war - Preußens Gloria is a well-known military march of the 19th century. Its composer was Johann Gottfried Piefke (1817-1884). I personally think Goodwin's composition more than tips a hat in that direction.

  • @Moondancer007 well you are right, I guess ...

  • @LJBCRT Very Well put!! My complimetns!!

  • @LJBCRT Greetings from Krauts land! We are Germans! Not Krauts! The war is over!

  • @Lee78072 I'm English and I apologise, but some people can never let go. Usually the ones who have never been in any confict.

  • @Darwinsman Ok! I accept your Apologize! I know what you mean! Yeah! People like who do not know, what they should do!

War was, and is Horrible! But some People cant understand what this means! WAR!

Well! I was not in any Conflikt as a Soldier too, but i kow that War is Wrong!

  • @Lee78072 I too was not in the war. I was born just before it ended, but I grew up with the aftermath and I did, Later, serve in the RAF. I've seen some conflict, but nothing compared with what the whole of Europe suffered in WWII.

We can only hope that it never happens again.

  • @Darwinsman You were in the RAF???? Wow! What do you fly??? Was you a Squadron Leader???

    Witch base?? Biggin? Manston? Kenley???

  • @Lee78072 I wasn't aircrew. I was just one of the many people who kept the aircraft flying and the airfields operational.

  • @Darwinsman Ahh! Groundcrew! The most important People on an Airfield! But on witch Bases where you???

If its not an Military Secret!

  • @Lee78072 Ah! I think i'm only allowed to give my name rank and number. And I don'tgive those on You-tube. :D

  • the luftwaffe.

  • One of the best march songs ever - still a favorite ever since i first heard it

  • I won't read all 255 comments but why did they have to change the name from the "Luftwaffe March" to "Aces High"? It was a composition made for the movie "Battle of Britain" and not an actual German/Nazi song, correct? I understand that even English audiences liked and still like the song so there was/is a lot of request to play the song so they changed it to "Aces High"? It's not like they were asking to play the "Horst Wessel Lied" or "Deutschland Uber Alles."

  • @Jason411115 It dont matter really , cause its a super marching song but, unfortunately, tends to glorify war ! I doubt the dead really care, anyway !!

  • @Jason411115 correct its atually now an official brittish army march now they played it on anual camp last year at army cadets

  • @MrBritainrules this is in the music book for the massed sea cdets band,i believe it was played at trafalgar day parade 2010

  • @Jason411115 theres a video on Youtube of the Coldstream Guards marching to this.

  • @Jason411115

I've always known this march as "Aces High". I marched to it at my passing out parade and I saw the film at the cinema when it was first released, and I'm pretty sure that it was referred to as "Aces High" then. Aces don't have to be RAF pilots...

  • This is more German than most real German marches, superb.

  • I feel alot more British all of a sudden :D

  • It's a wonderful march. It shows the talent and diversity of Goodwin who composes this and turns around and composes "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines". Good stuff!

  • @jbravo41

Wow... the shit you come up with!

  • @ALOTEF I am awake, u are asleep, that is why

  • @jbravo41

over me and 60 million other white english peoples bodies before your shit half crescent is raised above my head!!!

  • @butzee I am not a mooslum

  • so its not nazi right? some baverian or prussian style?

  • Achtung!

  • @ghilliedu25 Achtung Panzer ! :)

  • Ron Goodwin was a genius with film score's and always will be, for his full sounding march song;s, and traditional music,

Just like the RCAF Band playing O Canada in Capatain's Of the Cloud's,

    In 41,

you want to just salute the band when they march by even if your not

    military,

    'Make's You Feel Patriotic!!!!!!!!'

  • This is the most excellent music I have ever heard. This is just so energizing and encouraging music its awesome they should make this an anthem for the US

  • This is the Luftwaffe march, still played by the German Luftwaffe of this day!

  • @RMPify are you serious man??

  • @HeartGoldMVP Yep, they even play still the Badenweiler march too.

  • @HeartGoldMVP No, this was composed for the movie "Battle of Britain", however, the "Fliegermarsch" which was the march of the German Air Force since 1911 IIRC, is still played to this day.

  • @NSAdonis Shouldn't be.

  • @Talbot6832 Because? The majority of people, including obviously you don't know which march was played when and under which government rule(s). Only because one of them happened to be the nazi one, doesn't automatically mean it should be banned/automatically connected to that regime, since it exists far longer. The Fliegermasch isn't the only and not even the oldest instance of this. Both neo-nazis and ones who are against their ideology fail to realize this on a regular basis.

  • @RMPify wasn't this written for the film?

  • @alonmerlin no they wish....

  • RMPify Aces High, march from film score for orchestra (or band; also known as 'The Luftwaffe March' from film The Battle of Britain) Date: 1969 seems it wasn't nazi made thats a relife .

  • @alonmerlin For the opening theme, Goodwin composed the Aces High March in the style of a traditional German military march in 2/4 time.......in short he adjusted an original march for the movie.

  • this tune is worthy to be the national anthem of a nation!

  • The object of war is a political objective. Politicians start and end them. Its the poor bastards in the middle, the common people who often show uncommon valour and prove irrefutably that they are better men and women than any politician or bureaucrat, that fight and die in wars.

Its lucky for many politicians that both sides of the various 20th century arguments we have had didnt decide to patch up the differences and shoot the bloody shiney arsed politicians. THAT I would like to see.

  • @sociopath9 as if Politicians were the only cause of war, and as if politics didn't affect large numbers of people. Politicians, particularly in modern nations, are merely articulations and sometimes exacerbations of popular sentiment

  • @paratrooper508 Well realistically speaking majority of wars are caused by politics where as a small number of them are caused by religion.

  • @matt2house Regardless, war is a little more than a few men getting into a fight with little at stake beyond their own personal interests (maybe in the distant past this might have been the case in certain small feudal kingdoms). Even a man like Hitler didn't attack purely out of self-interest, but out of ideology that was shared by many of his people.

  • @paratrooper508 I somewhat agree with your point there, but not all great leaders or nations start wars over ideologies. I would say that ideologies are the second objective of war where as self interest is the first objective. For example you take the romans, now they fought hard to expand their empire through wars over economic profits. Where as Napoleon and Hitler were starting wars over ideologies....Especially with Napoleon

  • @matt2house Even so, my original point stands that whether or not they're fighting over ideology or resources or land, Its rarely just a few politicians that just decide to fuck people over. It is the group as a whole, represented fairly accurately (democratic governments) or very narrowly (autocracies) that is making or at least sanctioning the decision for war.

  • @paratrooper508 so you're referring to present day society with wars happening in iraq and afghanistan etc?

  • @matt2house yes, I am including those too.

  • @sociopath9 Religion also causes wars too as well as politics is concerned.

  • wunderbar!

  • If Britain was on call of duty world at war this would be their victory song. :)

  • Atrue mix of British marching music, that has to sound German. Nice march to march on

  • at the cost of so many lives? my grandfather lived through that war as a guerilla and i never see TV without news of some sort of conflict. The world would be a better place without wars.

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter

You can keep dreaming about a peaceful utopia but it will never happen. War may be hell but peace won't be achieved. Look at what the Versailles treaty caused...

  • @Rangerpl1322 exactly. .. it's about imposing the will of one group of "thought" on another. . . i won't think twice of laying down my life for my country but it really gets you thinking... "how costly is peace?"

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter Isnt it ironic ,men? That Wars are declared for the sake of peace?

anyhoo, we still haveny settled sumthin FZF, my spitfire vs, your ZERO :D

  • @Bellato88 yeah. . . but i guess by now both war and peace is a general component of the world. . . . sigh. God would have lots of trouble reconciling the peoples when He comes back. . .

sure, just don't put me up against a late model spit! hehehe! (i love the general characteristics of the A6M2 - the lightest one - in IL2 FB....)

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter

You could say very accurately, that peace is hell. Imagine what would have happened if WWI ended with a Soviet defeat and an armistice in the west. Sure, Germans and British would be happy because they would no longer have to kill each other, but what about the millions of Poles, Russians, Ukrainians, Czechs, Yugoslavs and Jews that would have to suffer under Nazi control? They would surely be hoping for war so that they could be liberated.

  • @Rangerpl1322 so then it puts one into thinking that war can be an instrument to achieve the goals of an idea - peace. damn!

  • The object of war is to achieve some political or economic end. By definition, this is something that's forcefully imposed on someone else. If they agreed with it, there would be no reason to fight a war. So, if you succeed and win the war, then the opponent is going to be dissatisfied, despite being peaceful. As humans we need war. As my above comment states, we need war... we thrive on war, everyone does, even civilians. If there is no war then there is no hope of liberation for them.

  • @Rangerpl1322 that is the sad reality of life. the world, for that matter. even if we need war, there still must be some other way to get another party to agree... example. here in the Philippines there used to be an organized rebellion against the government by islamic units in Mindanao (today mostly terrorists). Ramos and Estrada got them not by conquest, but by getting both parties to agree to a compromise. sadly, their accomplishments have been tarnished by terrorists.

  • @Rangerpl1322 Is that a typo? Did you mean WWI or WWII?

  • @hoosieryank1967 WWII, my mistake.

  • i agree - i now realized the point of war - it's pointless killing for what? more death? hahaha. i wish we all had to just settle disputes peacefully.

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter actually some wars are necessary to acquire peace and justice.

  • Hehe, they might have been the baddies and booed at every time we saw them when this film is played on many an easter sunday or bank holliday but they did get the best theme music! XD

  • most of you are missing the intire point of the war.

in that war a new sort of warfer was born one that is so horrid and evil that even the depest pits of hell seem as a haven.

please gentelmen can't we just be cevil and enjoy this most exelent music?

  • Everything comes back to Islam or America ¬_¬...to be English about this, sod them blighters-focus on the music aye? ;) great tune from a superb film!

  • @StueyLestrange That was very croquet of you, sir.

  • Outstanding march! And I believe that the Luftwaffe of today love it!

  • the germans were not the bad guys. it was Hitler and his god-forsaken lackeys.... i mean, wouldnt anyone fight for their country if the occasion called for it?

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter No!! you fight for Principle, not a Concept

  • @keirfree isn't a country - your mother country, my mother country, anyone's mother country - principle enough?

  • @FilipinoZeroFighter No, Look at the Nazi s ww2 the Serbians 1995 men all fought yet both were Totally wrong also USA in Vietnam

  • @keirfree no, you're missing my point. no one can tell anyone who believes what they're doing is right or wrong. get this. would you tell an islam fanatic that ramadan is wrong because they starve themselves? no, right? same here. the Jerries fought for what they believed in, the Serbs fought for what they believed in; etc etc. nobody can ever judge any one person's belief. .. if you believe in something, nobody can change what you believe in, right? that's what i mean. . hehehe.

  • why is it always in films and even in real life the bad guys always look so cool, i mean SS guards in their black uniforms are so awesome looking and this music along with other Nazi marches is great aswell

  • It was originally called the 'Luftwaffe March'

  • lol true might be panic?

  • achtung ! achtung ! die englander donner und blitzen eine spitfire

wat a language german is makes no sense in war but sounds good

  • For the real Luftwaffe music ..listen to the Wunschkonzert on the luftarchiv punkt de

  • I am British and proud to be so. I was 3 when the war started and lived through air raids. The war was along time ago and since then I have served with American and German air foce personnel. If we have no arguments with each other, what are you lot going on about.

  • My grandfather was in the Luftwaffe. The grandfather of my best friend flew on B17s over Europe (a tad bit after the BoB, I know.) Kinda weird, no?

  • Epic music, this is probably one of my all time favourite films.

Also, WWII was more than 60 years ago. I'll bet none of you here lived through it. Stop choosing sides and fighting each other like children.

  • British and proud if you Yanks/Jerries don't like it, then fuck off else where and come back when you get some common sense. We ruled America, we've beat Germany tice. Deal with it. And by the way, great music.

  • My Great Uncle Fought in the battle of the bulge under patton's third during WW2, met those F'n nazi losers, and Kicked ASS! God Bless America!

  • Actually - to quote Churchill correctly - 'What General Weygand called the Battle of France is over; the Battle of Britain is about to begin.' What's General Carmady got to do with it?Who is/was he?

  • What general Carmady calls the battle of France over, the battle of Britain has just begun!

  • @thomasVSstewie

    Wasn't it general Weygard?

  • I don't think Ron would appreciate the gesture of a Knighthood, having been dead several years. The honour is not accorded posthumously.

  • the luftwaffe march!!! my fav and the best march imo

  • Sieg Heil? Sieg Heil? Are you soft in the fuckin head! What the fuck are you on about?!? This composition was written for the film, you numbskull! Sieg heil my arse!!!! Don't glorify these losers. But by all means enjoy the music. It is, after all, British!!!

  • Shhhhh, child! The grown-ups are listening to the music!

  • @pat1981lux

we should perhaps have left your ungrateful arse to rot under the nazis?

And another thing, I DON'T have a moustache.

  • @pat1981lux

    Lol

    you're paranoid about jews

Britain is not ruled by Jews.

None of the prospective inner cabinet or the old one were jews

and actually i'm in a heterosexual relationship in the moment.

lol racists are often very funny when they rant their tiny abusive empty heads off.

  • @Myles0Harcourt Yes Maybe you should .........By 1947 Hitler would have blown you off the planet with Nuclear missiles that you didnt have the technology to reply to or defend against
