Heard that Jean And June are working on new music- would LOVE TO HEAR THEM!! Adored them since the Seventies, when I was in school, and found "Charity Ball!!"" What's wrong with me, why am I afraid to grow...
This song has more of a Jeff Lynn feel than anything else. It has his style across it. And if I'm not mistaken they toured with ELO in the early days. Things do rub off.
Had them pegged for success in 72, but it never came. Show's what I know !!
I had a question. I know I saw Fanny somewhere between NYC and Washington DC in 1970, 1971, or early 1972 opening for some other band I don't remember. Anybody know where and what band that might have been. All I remember is Fanny. As big a positive Shock for me as seeing Santana (before their 1st album release) open for Led Zep at Aaron Russo's Kinetic playground. No one knew who they were. No one wanted them to stop. Same when I heard Fanny! Hope someone can answer my question.
Love, love love Fanny. Always. I started playing keyboards in groups. Absolutely loved Nicky's playing when I heard it. What's she doing now? When I heard Jean on Bass on Hey Bulldog I immediately took up Bass 'cuz I wanted that sound. Their vocal blend was awesome. Could range from sweet to savage. recorded production values were shockingly clean for the time but with Todd Rundgren having a hand in it that's not surprising. June's guitar was unprecedented and awesome.
Sure wish someone would re-release (or do an authentic/updated cover of) "Solid Gold" and "Cat Fever." It's nice to have the boxed set but no one knows how amazing those songs should/could be in the modern musical idiom. In my eyes, they still deserve airplay.
I have just heard this song for the first time. The resemblance with ABBA astonishes me. I wouldn't be suprised if Benny & Bjorn had this album and based their entire sound around this. 'Ripped off' is another way of putting it. I always thought Nickey was brilliant too. If I were her I would sue. :) x
