True Fact: Brawl+ is the place where the melee losers who couldn't adapt to brawl hide into. Not opinion but fact. If you don't know the difference between the two, give me a thumbs down and go crawling back to your Brawl-
Actually, Brawl+ is a version of Brawl that has addapted to a style that has more combo options, wich makes the game more fun and competive for alot of players, well still handling al the good aspects of Brawl.
If you don't lik the idea, just don't use Brawl+. Its actually not that they can't change, they don't want to, because the overall combo's are lost.
yes there is much difference, comboing in brawl+ is much easier because of the general floatiness of everybody, however with improved recoveries, the edge game is different, less gimp kills in brawl+, more high percent kills, less chain grabs because nobody falls fast enough but they are replaced by juggles in a way
B+ is so fun and its only getting better. I play 5.0 now (the nightly build) with people I know online. Were any of these clips from online matches or is it all offline stuff. Just wondering since I play online mostly and some of these moves seem pretty precise.
Btw, great presentation and great music choice. Very entertaining...
Better than regular brawl but still terrible. the hit stun is fine i guess but the knockback is horrid. not every character is jigglypuff. everyone in this video had the potential to do combos at high percents. I particularly hated rob and Charizard. there needs to be characters like ganon (in melee)
B+ sucks. It's for noobs who can't combo in normal brawl. I admit brawl does get campy, but doing 50% damage from up tilts is REAL fun. And look at the last clip, you should not be hit from a move that far away.
Good job at failing at logic by taking a hyperbolic statement as a literal fact.
Technically, combos do exist in Brawl, they're just not lengthy or work in the same nature than Melee combos.
Furthermore, there exist several pseudo-combos that work through mindgames and/or limiting the possibilities of the opponent.
Just because your opponent can dodge most idiots discredit a combo, but they could also dodge in some of these. Brawl+ only limits these possibilities, making it _easier_.
Most Brawl "combos" are CGs, grab-release nonsense, footstool infinite crap, and 2 hit things. Everything else is just strings from bad decisions. And those don't really work in high level tourneys where people will camp you to the timer.
Smash combo videos as a whole are moreso "cool shit" then Bread and Butter combos.
Don't get me wrong, I acknowledge Brawl's gameplay is terrible (in comparison to Melee's), I'm not saying it's perfect in any way. The thing here is that Brawl+, or at least the version of it in this video, is an utter travesty.
Furthermore, I played YoshiDiddy like a year ago in a random encounter in shoddy battle, and he does know his shit. The Diddy shown here looks like he's being praised for doing AAA combos when you see what YoshiDiddy can do.
I don't care how good or bad Yoshididdy is. You don't "combo" in Brawl. You string attacks and try and read or camp and wreck your opponents approach. He should know that.
64 is a very basic smash game, and comboing in that game took actual skill.
And perhaps he does, it's just that you're being unnecessarily pedantic especially when many of these weren't "combos" either by your definition, and what he meant can be easily inferred. And the nanner lock into spike is a legitimate combo.
Comboing in 64 is easier then even the early B+ codesets that had Shield cancel and Ganon comboing D-air to fully charged U-Smash. 0-deaths took alot of skill though.
As I said, most Smash combo videos are moreso "cool shit" then BnB. Except 64.
Some coming is still possible, I can 3 hit combo any of the space animals or other fast fallers with Ganon's stomp, and Ganon is the worst in the game. Though I agree that it is very different from the previous games though.
I'm asking because, especially after 5.0, I feel Ganon is hardly the worst all around. Although he's still combo fodder, he's so much better than he was.
hhmm....he may be the worst comboer in B+ but he can still combo, perhaps with fewer hits, but he generally does more damage then everybody else so it probably evens out. Plus his combos aren't just one aerial performed over and over, you have to still judge the best attack to use. You get a guarenteed free hit after a Flame Choke now, and Wizkick can combo itself to the edge on most characters, and Ganon is deadly when edgeguarding.
Too true nathan, Ganon does have an awesome edgeguarding game. He's so much fun to use with all his new viable options.
Also, on second thought, Bowser is probably the worst comboer, but again that doesn't mean Bowser is bad. He makes up for his lack of combos with his strong punishing game and his ability to keep pressure off.
What's cool about B+ is how hard it is to say who the worst or even the best character is. The guys behind it have really done a great job with balancing it so far.
you should defend Brawl + instead of attacking normal Brawl. Utilt x 5 should not be happening. And this is hardly reading. In melee you could read, but in Brawl + the hitstun is so great, you have a lot of time to know what your opponent is going to do.
Well, all I see is characters doing WOPS with every single one of their moves. Look at that part of Bowser juggling Dk and tell me it's not deplorable.
Not nearly as significant as you'd like to think. I don't think why people seem to think it suddenly is harder to do than in normal brawl just because your opponent can't dodge anymore.
Blame Brawl's initial design. Nearly everyone is floaty as hell.
Because it rarely happens and Bowser normally sucks? Bowser does not have a free 80% combo since DI exists. He has to read.
These combos make it so their is a reward for getting in and landing that hit. Their is more punishment for failed camping.
BTW, this is an old vid from the 4.0 betas. Today we have less hitstun then Melee (which means this vid is no longer possible without even MORE reading).
DI isn't a magical thing that breaks combos, or at least it isn't in this version where the character falls at the speed of a balloon, especially since DK only used uair twice, the rest was utilt.
Ah. That's a good argument.
Yeah, I've seen some videos of the current version and it looks a lot better than this. This beta was terrible.
Dude, while I think everyone in Brawl might as well be auto-metalesque because of the almost non-existent hitstun, I was looking at this and thought to myself... whoa, not even Guilty has counter hitstun that long. With hitstun like that, I could just Ken combo people all day. It'd then become a game of "how well can you turtle" to who can pop who up the quickest.
The hitstun currently is only 8.65% more than normal Brawl has (different for each move, obviously) and most of these combos could be escaped.
Some of these the opponents are simply put in an inescapable situation, where if they throw a shield up they can get grabbed but if they don't they get hit, etc.

There is also no speed. Or learning curve. Or balance. Or fun, for that matter
1w2ngedangel 2 years ago
I don't actually play it myself. Its still hard I think.. But I can't really judge. There is comboing speed, but less than in Melee, I think.
There is still not really balance, what was one of the idea's, but its more than in normal brawl.
Some people do find it fun, but its oke if you don't think so.

All you see is a "combo" video showing the best parts of matches. Do you look at Melee and say "OMG. Bork 0-death combo game"?
And would you rather Bowser sucked like always?
metaXzero 2 years ago
The point is that most of these combos are pathetic. It's every single character doing WOPs just because the opponent can't dodge anymore.
How anyone can consider putting a Bowser juggling a DK that moves a couple of inches with Uair up to 80% is beyond me.
What these "combos" really are is making everything you can already do in Brawl easier, and the stupid Brawl+ community thinks it's impressive.
Nobody is impressed by a T. Link that uthrows into a bomb, but you add uar and it's impressive
Zimx02 2 years ago

Zimx02 2 years ago
DI does make alot of combos strings though. You are still in a bad position, but the next hit isn't guaranteed.
You mean Bowser right? Only DK owning in this is a WOP B-air. Rest is owning DK xD
Well at least you know this is old. Sorry if I seem rude.
metaXzero 2 years ago
Oh yeah, I meant bowser.
And at least we both know this version sucked.
Zimx02 2 years ago
It wasn't too bad. Matches were far from resembling 64's on crack. Their were just too many dial-a-combo moves like most characters U-tilts.
Though the last Boozer U-air was actually avoidable IIR 4.0's hitstun properly.

The hitstun currently is only 8.65% more than normal Brawl has (different for each move, obviously) and most of these combos could be escaped.

I was referring chiefly to the juggle-outs, not ground combos; however, move-specific hitstun does help put this into perspective.
