... and mind you, the more I listen, Esben is closer to Siouxsie than anyone else in that respect. This particular song could very easily be confused with something from "Join Hands".
I haven't really listened to Florence, and in such isolated corner, Esben work just perfect. But now that you mentioned, Esben is to Florence what Witch is to a Machine...
I remember when I first happened across Florence & the Machine, and was scouring YouTube for their stuff. On the video for "Kiss with a Fist," there were people comparing the song to Feist. Never mind that "Kiss with a Fist" is borderline punk, and that Feist is not even close to being punk. People saw a semi-indie female vocalist and immediately had to conflate her with another semi-indie female vocalist.
I see the same thing happening with this band and Florence. It's annoying and stupid.
@anyastar I like comparisons because that's about what I love to do: not only listen, but also talk bout music. I don't think one can blame anyone for associating one band with another. I find it very interesting to read comments beneath songs I like and by that time get inspiration, because there's always one band somewhere I haven't heard of before. But that's just my opinion :)
I don't see too many similarities with Florence and this band. To me the styles are completely different, as are the vocals. I'm just enjoying the dark and twisted vibe Esben and the Witch has created, and how they've dominated my playlist as of late. :)
You know what I hate most about everyone in this current "gen"?
They compare everything, to everything. did anyone ever say "omg I like the the cure they sound like joy division. Omg I like Nirvana they sound like the pixies.
No, they didn't.
Now it's omg sounds very art neavue, noir espresso, very cliche but homage, sounds like this band and this band and this band and this band. I wear scarves in summer and silly hats and parade around for attention.
@dano555666 I've got to agree with you, it's absolutely ridiculous. Particularly since the comparisons are usually extremely loose. Non-pop band with female lead? Must be like this other non-pop band with female lead, because all non-pop bands with female leads are the same, dontcha know.
@bananarockclassic No, they're really not. The vocals sound similar (and that's not something that can really be helped, as one can't do much to change the intrinsic sound of one's singing voice), but the style of music is completely different. The bands inhabit entirely different genres.
@bananarockclassic Haha, when you look up reviews on Esben and the Witch you get many of those comparisons. I remember reading somewhere that one guy though they sounded like if Florence had a evil twin sister.

You can compare, make comparison between almost anything physical on this planet due to its carbon content...here we define a new element of beauty and purpose within the realm of sound.....either that or triple white chocolate and strawberry gateaux for feeding your ears. This 'shines'.
I am overwhelmed, can't wait to hold the album finally in my hands. Currently 'Esben and the witch' is my favourite band. This music style is really awesome and touches me.
Love this track. Thanks for uploading it. x

They're just a darker version of Florence & The Machine. I like them don't get me wrong...but has nobody made this comparison yet?

@bananarockclassic I thought that, too and I also thought I'm the only one who compared them xD
Both bands are incredibly awesome and I think they do have a lot in common :)

I've been waiting 6 months for this to be available somewhere other than MySpace. I love this song, it's going on Facebook immediately.
