  • What's the point of the game? Is there a story to it?

  • this game still freaks me out to this day. Theres something eerie about being in the open ocean with that creepy music playing. And when the hurricane/tornado thing comes and takes away all your friends i just loose it.

  • Memories.....I would give anything to play this again. Love me some Ecco the Dolphin.

  • Memories... :)

  • I beat this game already.

  • First game on the game gear years ago :) never made it to the end tho, was pretty hard near the end

  • BLAST PROCESSING!

  • This was the only game I had on sega game gear! :)

  • This game is a trip when your high... jumping into another dimension when your a dolphin? Huhhhhhh

  • Holy crap, this brought back some SERIOUS memories. Wow. 90s kid right here.

  • This sounds like a Genesis game... PS2?

  • @scorbragon No such thing as evolving god created everything so shaddap!

  • I never liked the swimming stages in Mario or any other platform game but for some reason this one was awesome. Maybe due to the speed with which you could move.

  • Im so utterly confused! Me and my sibilings could NEVER figure this game out! I just tried it again last night (yes..on an OLD SCHOOL sega from 1991 or something) and I dont know wht the HECK im supposed to do! I talk to dolphens and jump around and thats it!!! THis is the MOST Ive EVER seen this game do !

  • I never knew what to do in this game.

  • HOLY. SHIT. I am *SO* glad I never figured out you had to jump high as a little girl. That shit is terrifying. wtf.

  • the nostalgia makes me cry

  • @rubixstetris

    Thank you.

  • So THAT'S what you're suppose to do... I never got passed the first stage. Haha

  • this game was WAY ahead of its time.

  • oh i used to play this when I was very young. I used to look the other way from the tv when 1:15 happened, damn it was so scary!

  • Oh I loved this game when I was a kid.

  • I recently bought this game and its sequel on Steam. Truly great games but very hard. I dont think I could have beaten them without quick save and quick load lol.. But wonderful games they certainly are:)

  • Why aren't you eating other seacreatures and evolving into ambhibian?

  • @Scobragon Because he already is a MAMMAL.

  • When my sister went back to play this game after playing the Dreamcast Ecco game, we both sat there looking at each other and asked how any of us EVER beat it. Such a hard but fantastic game. It certainly is still ranked high up there for both of us and will probably always be for one of the most challenging but wonderful video games we've EVER played.

  • @xxleucisticxx

I made some videos of Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of Future (an enhanced port of the Dreamcast version for the Playstation 2) on my channel and the game is really difficult and fascinating at the same time! :)

  • I have this game on Mega Drive. It's fun and I love the music, but it's very hard. I never get past level 2.

  • A game from the time where driving the player insane with challenges instead of giving them all for free and drown everything in pointless achivement systems. Crazy good times. Thanks for the upload.

  • @TheWinterNights

    Thank you for watching.

  • I was nine or ten when this was released and I remember it being a little heavy for me at that age. The soundtrack and feeling of isolation that the first levels have really is more depth than a child can handle!

  • weird, dosnt show me the little sound maps on the pc version

  • This game had some of the greatest music for its time.

  • Omg, I remember playing this game as a kid :D

I want to play so bad now >.<

  • What a unique game! The Sega has some of the best games ever!

  • @jaredw617

    Yes, I agree. :)

  • As you know, Stuttering Craig hates Ecco the Dolphin. This has been some running gag for his website ScrewAttack, who love to beat up a short-lived video-game series that I'd actually take over Sonic any day of the week. After several criticisms for his thoughts on the first Ecco game, Craig's response was a highly sarcastic view on the sequel Tides of Time.

To summarise it: "Oh man, I'm so sorry for bashing Ecco. This game is actually good for all of this awesome stuff. No, Ecco sucks."

  • This game is on xbla :D

  • this game was so much fun when it was first out!!! damn all the memories!

  • havent seen nor played this game in years

  • Why did the aliens have to take all your friends and yet they left all the ****ing jellyfish!?

  • The loneliness Ecco must have felt made me so upset :(

  • I miss my genesis. :-(

  • Perhaps the only thing scarier and more mysterious than outer space... our own deep oceans.

  • One of the best game ever made

  • As a kid, I always wanted to play this game, but nobody really had it! Sometimes then I got to play it in a store, and thought it was pretty hard, but I'm sure I would've been able to finish it after many tries. Either way, thanks for this Playthrough, I'm really enjoying this so far. This game has really great atmosphere imho

  • rememberer this and then i fell in love with dolphins and bought saga mega drive for ps3

  • Wow, Ecco The Alien Dolphin! This Game Is So Cool!

  • I wish I still had this game so I could play 24/7

  • I used to play this game 12 hours a day coulnd't never finish it!

  • This game was very creepy but somehow as kids we played it as much as Sonic

  • "how high can you fly in the sky"?

ecco vs johnatan livingstone seagull. animal fight, better than pokemon fight !!

  • I didn't know why i played this game! but i beat it!!!

  • Memories of early computer gaming

  • game scared the crap out of me when i was young....probably the reason i hate going into the water alone...just like ecco

  • The music starting at 1:49 used to make me laugh! was so serious lol.

  • amazing game, amazing music:)

  • the music was just the best,, :)

  • The best game ever!

  • sadly didn't own this game during my 16-bit years (genesis and snes) but I did watch my brother play it, I was always confused on why the dolphins got sucked up, and the whole point of the game. I also remember seeing my brother play the tides of time. We still have our genesis and I have this game now and still love it. Though I don't know if I'll get to play the third one which was on the dreamcast and I don't know if I'll ever get one

  • scariest thing ever when everything gets sucked up. this games so eerie.

  • NIGHTMARE FUEL TO THIS DAY WHEN EVERYTHING GETS SUCKED INTO THE SKY.

  • first game i ever played ;)

  • i remember this from when i was like 4. i thought that the thing in the beginning was like a hurricane or somthing. i would watch my brother play it and i think thats what he told me :D wait...how come u dont get sucked up???

  • I also remember playing this as a kid. I never understood what a whirlwind or a tornado was at the time, thats what was so fascinating about the game! :)

  • I last played this game when I was little.....never understood it.....but for some reason i still liked it. What happens in the beginning exactly when all the other dolphins get sucked outta the water? I never got that?

  • Man this game so used to scare me to death. You jump and everything just explodes D:

  • I never to this day understand what the point of this game is, or what happend at 5:33

  • could never get past that goddamn giant octopus :/

  • @beantown620 In Undercaves? Same. :) I never completed the game until last year, aged 18... and 1:17 still haunts me to this day. ;_;

  • @TheBluberryPi why lol

  • Man I remember this game... so nostalgic. It has some pretty interesting mechanics for such a game of that time.

  • A game which everybody bought, nobody undertood and few if any ever finished!

  • dopest soundtrack for any game, ever

  • I have a Genesis and this game. Feels good to go back in time.

  • I Remember This Game :] It Was So Confusing For Me :] But Funn ;]

  • The beginning used to make me cry when ecco is on his own... still makes me feel sad!!

  • you are sweet , dont feel sad , cause ecco is strong if he got good master

  • When I got to the last level, I started feeling sad for both Ecco AND me...

    Welcome to the Machine...so...many...tries...

I did it, but still, it was very hard.

  • @mazzam1612 lol the beginning made me confused, and scared. I was like "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!?!"

  • @mazzam1612 your are just feeling the reality of life as it settles upon your chest

  • @mazzam1612 You know your just a soppy wet rag for the sake of being a soppy wet rag when you get emotional over computer animated characters.

  • This game was great..but it wasn't easy. I had this for Sega Genisis when I was a kid. Graphics were top notch at the time.

  • This is a good game andall...but for some odd reason, at the part where everything dissapeared, it friggin creeped me out. >_>

    ~Raxel~

  • Oh, wow. Cool old game. I'd feel like I was the one suffocating when Ecco got stuck in those underground caves with no air bubbles.

  • i remember now :D

  • thank you. now i know what to do. i was confused because i never played this game until yesterday.

  • i remember playin this game when was like 6 with my uncles an shit haha and streets of rage ahhh the good ol days

  • remember playing this game on my pc.

  • This game made me love dolphins very much. But it was a hard game.

  • Ohh I remember. I agree too. I still have this game
