@karlarsch56b he can get more rhythms going at once in theory since he has ten fingers(even though he doesnt use all of them) rather than two drumsticks, but i think he just likes to be unique...
i think its because his moustache..but look now he got tha style..with his hairstyle, hiphop shirt, sporty shoes, cool guitar, and without moustache..
To me, no one can surpass this performance for this special song. Very beautiful, moving, unforgettable..... Reminds me of all the wonderful times I had in Spain. Bela Fleck, I adore you!!!!
Notice that bela missed 2 notes, you can kinda tell he realized on stage that victor was playing a lot better than him at the time. Victor played everything that was there and not there D*%^n!
que va a saber una vaca de astronomia!! Bela puede perderse las veces que le ronque la anona xq el es el COMPOSITOR de las canciones, ud que ha hecho para que critique!?
Big deal. Have you ever tried playing this kinda music?! I assure you Victor has missed his share of notes, and I'm sure you could find some if you look hard enough. Besides, we are probably talking about missing notes in the middle of an improv section, which happens all the time. Many classical musicians mess up on peices they play hundrends of time over, the exact same way. Improv is making stuff up on the spot!
Oh yeah, I recently noticed a screw-up on a Paquito d'Rivera song, haha. I suppose with songs that difficult and that long, you can't do much about it
I'm kind of curious... at around 4:34 after Victor whirls his bass around him, Bela Fleck turns and points his banjo neck at him. Is he trying to tell him something?
he does this in germany cause americans are foul little nasty pigs and they lost thier souls like the japanese in ww2. the only way for japanese to get thier souls back is to reclaim the lost land . its a mere past historical anachronizm
The original Bela Fleck & the Flecktones were as: Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten, Roy Wooten(Futch) and Howard Levy who left the band in 1992...he played on there first 3 albums..he was the glue to the early sound...with his incredible piano and harmonica work.
cette musique est trop bien ! je conseille l'écoute de la version studio sur l'album "crossing the tracks" c'est le meilleur arrangement possible de cet instrumental de folie !
That's Futureman. He's playing the synthax drumitar. An invention of his own. It has drum sounds, midi and pre-recorded, onto it that are touch sensitive.
definitely an instrument cord. i think it is victor's. nowadays he has a cordless setup. Huh wonder why? Even in '93 the Flecktones were way ahead of the game.
Wait this is weird. At around 4:34 it looks like Vic broke a string, but at 4:44 you can clearly see he's still got four on there. Can someone explain what's goin on to me?
I don't think that is a bass string. Maybe a random string from the room or a cord. You can see how quickly bela removes it from the bass. You could not do that w/ a broken string.
When he spun his bass around his neck at 4:30, his cord got wrapped on the instrument. Bela unwrapped it. Victor did not break a string (although with his attack, I'm sure he can and does). And yeah, he's got a trem arm on that bass - weird but appropriate for a bass player of his caliber and creativity.
Wow! Love seeing them play a Chick Corea tune! I really can't choose which is better, the return to forever version or this one! Both are fantastic!!!
Bela is a banjo GOD! The playing of Victor is ridiculous, but to dismiss Bela or Future Man's contributions to this amazing soundscape, only proves that the listener was not actually doing that very thing!

Amazing clip! Haha, check out at 4:30 Victa spins his bass and the cord gets caught on his headstock; Bela fixes it for him while doing a G roll, still backing him up! Nice timing!
This is replying to an old comment, but when Bela plays "Spain", he tunes it a half-step down because when he heard the song on vinyl to learn it, it was a half step higher. So technically, it was a Gb roll.
