You know what intrigues me about this movie? It looks like 19 FIFTY seven, not '67, when you consider the camera tecniques and how large Caan looked only 5 or 6 years later as Sonny.
I'd like this scene more if it (and the whole movie!) hadn't been done better in Rio Bravo. I always found Dude's struggle a lot more wrenching and believable than JP's.
Mitchum was the best! This was my favorite scene in the movie. Nothing like seeing Asner (being the liberal he was at the time and still is) getting popped in the mouth by Mitchum! LOL.. I bet Mitchum loved it too! LOL.. Mitchum and Wayne played off one another well in this flick too!
I watch this movie for only one reason. ROBERT MITCHUM! And this scene is why. No one can fuck with Mitchum. Not even the Duke! The toughest guy in Hollywood hands down.
Is that Sammy Cahn the composer as Elmer the piano player???
