Does he really enjoy reciting words? He seems to actively enjoy the wide vocabulary. I bet it is good stimulation for them to have to memorize and associate words. Grey Parrots are certainly of the smartest animals on the planet.
@bhambum She is only in her cage when she sleeps and we leave the house. I work from home, so she is out of her cage and on a play stand about 65% of the time.
@bhambum What do you want him to do roam the house? Poop all over everything? Not many people like that. So a cage is not a bad thing as long as you take them out to play.
my new 1 year old african grey is really scared of me. he accepts treats from my hand but screams when i get to close to the cage. how can i gain his trust. plzzz try and answer. also did you have this problem with einstein??
my new 1 year old african grey is really scared of me. he accepts treats from my hand but screams when i get to close to the cage. how can i gain his trust. plzzz try and answer. also did you have this problem with einstein??
@horsehassan Learn all you can about Positive Reinforcement training. It works, but like training any wild animal it take a lot of time and a lot of patience. Search, "Good Bird Inc." for the methods I use. Their books and materials are Wonderful! Get started NOW! Einstein was started early on this training and didn't develop these bad habits. Good Luck!
What an absolutely amazing vocabulary she has - it's obvious she has a lot of interaction with her humans. I really love how she links together appropriate words and/or sounds like "want a drink of water" followed by the sound of someone chugging water and "dogs" followed by barking. She's brilliant - good job.
@seleinathescorpio Don't worry, her toes are normal. One of the things that distinguishes parrots from many other birds is their zygodactyl feet. It sounds really prehistoric, but it simply means two toes forward and two toes back, specifically the second and third toe point forward, and the first and the fourth point back. This configuration of toes allows for greater ability in grasping and manipulating objects like food and toys, climbing and perching.
Hi thank you for all your dedication to Einstein she is very special. Im actually getting a grey for Xmass and wanted to ask, has Einstein ever had its wings clipped? You have done a wonderful job with her.
@arkily13 Yes, we do keep her wings clipped, but she is still able to be taken up with a strong wind. So we nwver take her outside unprotected. We always keep her in a travel cage when outside. People have different opinions about wing clipping, so read as much as you can and do what is best for you and your parrot.
So sweet. I can tell you really love this bird. I cannot begin to tell you how happy that makes me; I've seen many beautiful creatures, including birds, suffer from abuse and neglect.
But you share something special with Einstein, I can tell. God bless you both. :)

Been working my butt off trying to teach my moms African Grey to talk. He'll make every animal noise I teach him but "get out " are the only words he says and I didn't teach him that. I'm going to try and get him to watch videos of Einstein. He'll either tell me to get out or he may just finally talk. My moms red macaw is only 2 years old and at least he's practicing. No clear words yet but he's trying.
Einstein is awesome. I gotta get this video into the other room so my Grey can watch him. Mine is 15 years old now and has a great vocabulary also. I think Einsteins vocabulary is larger - My parrot spends much time practicing using MY voice.
I was at my friends house once and she fed her parrot chicken. I thought she did it on accident first but she said "nope, she loves chicken!" I'm still not so sure xD;
My CAG sits on my shoulder and we watch lots of Einstein's videos in the evening. Gemma started saying, "You're all wet!!" after we watched Einstein's shower a few times. I'd said it to her, but she wouldn't repeat it until she heard Einstein say it! She enjoys whistling back to Einstein and gets really animated when we watch these videos! She's young, about 11 months old, and I'm glad we have these videos for her to watch - we both really enjoy them!!

@4zebird my cockatiel doesn't like me covering all his cage so i only cover the top bit and leave the side facing the room open so he can see any movements happening over the night but im not sure if there night vision. lovely bird by the way!! his so smart :)

He's so smart!!!..i always thought they were just repeating words/phrases but it's like he associates the word w/ what it means as well..he said 'wanna take a shower?' and actually ruffles up his feathers and shakes like he's really doing it! lolz
