Too bad none of those animals grown in captivity can ever be introduced back to wild, they are doomed to life in cage, I just cant support that.

We agree, our ultimate goal is to put ourselves out of business, until the laws are changed however there will continue to be hundreds of big cats needing homes each year. This is how we have rescued our cats and use them to educate the public to help us get the laws changed regarding private ownership of these cats.

Our cats just love to rub on it for the smell, they don't eat it or anything like that. I'm not sure with small cats I'm sure they would be fine also though :)

They are all leopards, we don't have any jaguars at the sanctuary. The way to tell them apart is with their rosettes, a leopard as a normal rosette, while a jaguar as a spot inside the rosette :)

no jaguars thats unfortunate. im sure many of them are in need of your help D=. i knew about the spots in the rosettes but i was focusing more on the compaction of the rosettes (leopards having a wider gap between the two, the darkness and mainly the jaw structure. i thought that was the face of a jaguar. wow i was wrong =S. Zoology might not be right for me then

No probs, the cats just love the smell of the trees, we plant them next to each other so the cats (who have scent glands in their cheeks) can walk through them like a car wash and get the smell on both sides!

Yep, this is something we do each year with donated trees, it's great for the cats and great for the volunteers to watch! jumanji, sure did like his tree!

I am a big fan of BigCatRescue! and i support them with what ever i can. But i am trying to see the logic behind giving these cats Christmas Trees. Whats the point?. Those cats dont eat plants. The season they are sniffing them is because its a foreign object to them and probably have human oder in them. I dont see the point. Instead it could have been recycled. Or given to animals that eat plants.

Can some one explain me what was the point??

You're right it is a foreign object in their cage and thats the whole point it is something we can leave in there until next christmas. They can sniff them rub up against them and just generally destroy them for an whole year, worth the sacrifice I think?

This is the name Cheetaro came with when we rescued him from a roadside zoo that had closed down in New England. As you can see he can move pretty fast, maybe thats why he got the name!?

BCR- you guys think up the best and most interesting enrichment ideas. However, I have heard that Christmas trees have high levels of pesticides on them. Do you do anything to protect the cats from exposure to the chemicals?

The cats just love the scent of the trees and with anything new we put in their enclosures they normally trash it! Cats have scent glands in their cheeks which is why they like to rub on them, we try and position the trees so they can squeeze through them and get the scent on both sides of their face at once, like a car wash!

I ask for Tony's safety every day and every night, and on a lot of occasions between sunup and sundown.

He deserves the right to be a happy tiger--or at least not one who frantically paces on concrete all day. Which CAN'T be good for his paw pads.

I'm a Paramedic but I care about animals too, especially cats.
