Even non anime that makes fun of itself (example: Beastmaster 3) is great, I love having the inside track on an inside joke...like one show I watch had a reference to toast through a whole episode, found out later that the catering budget was dead, so all they had to eat was toast, it was hilarious...now if Gene had written in to a Star Trek script about fruit salad, that would make another great inside joke...love this kinda stuff!
