The only reason theyre neutral is because they want to appeal to more people. If they do what Fox does, then theyd only get Republican viewership or vice versa. If they just call everything a tie and refuse to do any investigation at all, then they can win over both audiences, thus allowing them to make more money from advertisers.

its not an objective neutrality, its a blind one. His point is, they will say its a tie no matter who really won. If they were being objective, they would say the truth when there's a clear winner: Joe Biden.
When I watched CNN, there were plenty of people on there commenting that Biden did very well, while acknowledging that Palin did much better than expected (admit it, people expected her to be a slackjawed idiot with drool running down her chin.) They also showed several post-debate polls showing people thought Biden won.
So I'm not really sure where they complaint comes from that no one on CNN said Biden won ;) The anchor is supposed to moderate between the spokespeople and talking heads.

Independent media is only localized, so only people within that particular area really hear it or read it. The rest of the country has to put up with MSNBC, CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS. PBS is ok. It's usually rated the most fair and balanced by respondents in polls.

A difficulty with the news is; If you are not on board, you will likely get axed from your status position. If the media thinks it was a tie, so be it. The media was going off of the lowest expectations possible, regular people were going off of who they thought could best step in and run this country if something bad should happen. I watched them because I wanted to see if Palin was going to fail on a monumental scale, which was probably why the ratings were so high. Who gives a shit about VP debates in general? Neutrality is both impossible & undesirable. Objective is what we want (but is also impossible)
Some things are objective; child rape is bad. But, to be neutral, you would have to give NAMBLA's side of it
Other things are on a scale of subjectivity, ie global warming, best economy choices, etc. And everyone in the press has their subjective viewpoint. We ask that they understand their own bias & try to offset it in their reporting
Some do it better then others. Fox doesn't even try

"Child rape is bad" isn't objective at all. It's a personal opinion. Objective would be "so and so raped x child somewhere". That's what I want. Just tell me what's going on. So again, neutrality is impossible unless the press is just passing on every random bit of information (not facts but information). OBJECTIVITY is the goal. Journalism 101.

People need to think, use the brain they were born with, and come to middle ground conclusions. Hating Obama is stupid but so is nodding yes at everything he dose as if he were infallible. When I watched CNN, there were plenty of people on there commenting that Biden did very well, while acknowledging that Palin did much better than expected (admit it, people expected her to be a slackjawed idiot with drool running down her chin.) They also showed several post-debate polls showing people thought Biden won.
So I'm not really sure where they complaint comes from that no one on CNN said Biden won ;) The anchor is supposed to moderate between the spokespeople and talking heads.

With the 2004 election, the reported results were 49/51. This was called a blowout for the Republicans and a great mandate for Bush.
With the 2006 election, which was a blowout for the Democrats, the media reported it was a "mandate for more bipartisanship".
Republican victories are exaggerated.
Democrat victories are softened.

a poll is a statistical analysis & explanation of data, which will explain its result ie who will get the votes; "expert opinion" does not agree with the polls. Do you really believe that people just have a natural tendency to NOT listen to debates (which makes a debate lose its meaning) wheareas "expert" opinion is legitimate? Natural selection & relativity explains a pattern of observations of data; these "experts" fail to do just that.

Yes, broken. Not neutral. NBC has a liberal bias. CNN less so, but still. CBS apparently does, and FOX is completely conservative. And they will only promote straight "liberal" and "conservative" philosophies. There is no fair and accurate representation of news in the US.

Independent media is only localized, so only people within that particular area really hear it or read it. The rest of the country has to put up with MSNBC, CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS. PBS is ok. It's usually rated the most fair and balanced by respondents in polls.

Our mainstream (ahem, corporate) media has been broken for at least 12 years, ever since that bullshit telecommunication and media deregulation with the Telecom Act and the FCC not doing its job and siding with the corporations, yet again. The rescue bill that John McCain "suspended his campaign" to support and worked to get passed, failed to pass because Republican's voted against it. They added a pile of pork, McCain worked hard to get it passed and it passed. McCain then criticized Obama for "phoning it in"
Then McCain called the bill destructive to the economy, corrupt, a bad deal and an example of everything that is wrong with Washington. I think he even called on Bush to Veto the bill.

I don't really get the point of being upset at the media. At the end of the day, they don't really matter. The polls show that most people thought Biden won. That's what really matters. If the media thinks it was a tie, so be it. The media was going off of the lowest expectations possible, regular people were going off of who they thought could best step in and run this country if something bad should happen. They chose Biden.

The polls favored Biden because the McSame/Palin ticket supporters are uninterested in the debate and didn't view it. Their issues on criminalizing abortion, rejecting gay marriage, and ousting illegal immigrants are already covered so why bother? I don't see how you could be undecided in this election by now unless you are stupid or don't care.

I watched them because I wanted to see if Palin was going to fail on a monumental scale, which was probably why the ratings were so high. Who gives a shit about VP debates in general? I think the republicans avoided watching it for the same reason. You also have to remember that the majority of republicans don't have the intellectual capacity to take in a 1.5 hour debate. I wonder what the competing TV shows were on that night to give the republicans another option? Was wrestling or nascar on?
