  • this sir, is a god damn failure. And no, I can't do better, but if I could, I wouldn't have failed epicly.

    this is pure lame.

  • well, i'm sorry but I do not really get the point... should ur song have some sort of progressive tempo intended to show out an evolution in Metal over the years that slide down below the entire vid? (anyway nice song)

  • Sad what we've come to, isn't it?

  • Apparently Slayer, Sodom, Kreator, Possessed, Destruction, Celtic Frost, Repulsion, Carcass, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Malevolent Creation, Entombed, Dismember, Suffocation, Incantation, Emperor, Mayhem, Darkthrone, and all the hundreds of major bands in the thrash, speed, death and black metal genres never existed and had no influence on anything. There was only Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and chugga-chugga nu-metal.

  • Nice one Dude :>

  • no trash, black, death, industrial? Lame....

  • I love near the shift to the late 70's you can hear some definite Maiden sounding playing

  • 1970-90's

  • @mateo0123

    breakdowns in 90s. yeah right...

  • @disdain666666 in this video's '93, 1:45 to be precise. unless you are a conservative '70s listener, which is great, i don't like many of the 90s bands anyways, but the whole 80s part is good, gotta admit that... what's the point of a youtube discussion anyways? enjoy the music -.-

  • Notice how in the early 70s he really had to focus and then by the mid 00s he didn't even give a fuck anymore.

  • I only liked the end. But I dont really like much metal pre-2000 (though there are a very exceptions... Arch Enemy being one that immediately that springs to mind). Good vid though ^_^

  • You sort of forgot thrash metal in there.

  • @Disebey no he didnt it starts at 85 and ends at 87

  • this was the coolest riff vid i have ever seen on youtube so far!

  • notice how the skill level peaks in the 90's and then declines rapidly

  • @treetrunkss940

I love when people talk about "skill level" in music. News flash, people don't care about how hard something is to play or how complex it is; they want to listen to what sounds good

  • @fuzzyboy50 news flash musicians have greater appriciation for technicality. stfu i didnt say it sounded bad

  • It was good from 90's

  • Отлично сделал!

  • 2001 to 2010 is the best

  • watching from 2:35 needs no further explanation...

oh how I miss the sound between the 80's and 90's :-(

  • Unfortunately, the most popular choice of metal nowadays is nu-metal, and metalcore. With the TRUE heavy metal community (I mean those who listen exclusively to, or mostly to heavy metal) it's probably death metal. It's still the best

  • I was hoping it wuld get "thrashy" around 1986 but nonetheless very awesome! :D

  • the opening riff sounds so like Cky but awesome vid bro

  • de-evolution...but yeahh...awesome vid!! :P

  • awesome video!

  • Super nice tone. :)

  • 1970 to 2010 was the best part.

  • Everything was great up until 1993! Which, funnily enough coincides with the release of Winger's third record in '93, after which grunge took over completely, and everything was shit. So, since around the time I was born, all music has been shit. FML

  • 1980 to 1990 the best part

  • @BulywyfGuitar It`s not right to compare two or three completely difficult music periods ...

  • @BulywyfGuitar 1979-1993 )))

  • your a genius :)

  • ending with breakdown!!

  • i like 80s the most :D

  • Dude where did you get that awesome wall hanging that is behind you in this video?

  • fuckin core bands are garbage. they're not metal. Septic Flesh, is metal. if you haven't heard of them, you need to. because you're an insignificant wretch if you have not heard them. Pyramid God, or Anubis is the song you should listen to. that is all.

  • No thrash and no black? :( I'm a disappointed Panda...

  • Most of this sounded like Lamb of God. haha

  • I liked the 1970's style metal...good stuff

  • This is cool. Good work :)

  • 2011 is dubsteb metal

  • 05-10

    000 00 000 000 00 000

    000 00 000 000 00 000 Lol

  • Watch and learn,Justin Bieber!!

  • WHAT ABOUT THE MODERN THRASH REVIVAL! stuff like Endgame and World Painted Blood! those were epics

  • hahahahah. youre the man. from like 2002 onwards, breakdowns

  • 80's is the best!

  • Nice music, but your chronology is wrong...

  • everything sounds like lame heavy metal attempst by a 13year old

  • @baklavametal: Post a video response, where you do better or stfu = )

  • what a bunch of crap

  • In this vid last years sounds almost as boring as techno.

  • Good work man!!!

  • haha sick!

  • Where's power metal? Speed that shit up

  • Funny how the skill gradually goes down by each year

  • @tkmaster17 You should do comedy man

  • @Metalbaum black metal sucks shit you stupid emo fag

  • you just blew my mind...

  • Good video man! I think todays "leading metal" is metalcore because it is so easy to get into metal trought lighter metal. I mean not many new listeners start with underground black/death metal. Also emo style is really popular in some parts of the usa and people want to match their music and visual style. I live in finland and there is like only 2 or 3 emos in my town. Everybody listens to heavier metal genres.

  • @P4nzerk93 Nothing beats CoB!

  • @KinneticDeath Did you point that they are also from finland? It is nice that finland has few "big" bands like cob, nightwish and so on but it is even better that you can also see it in a smaller scale. There is young bands everywhere and some of the players are under 15 yo. Here has been formed some kind of band community where metal is really accepted.

  • Whats the song between 1997-2000?

  • The FAQ in the description was my favourite part :)

  • dang dude awesome job thats good

  • black metal where are you ??

  • It's such a shame that the scene-kid crap gets a lot of attention because it's a very small, very rotten part of the metal community. I'd say that most of todays metal is getting better and heavier but the older metal will always be in a warm and cozy part of my heart

  • sounded good until you got into the late 90's and especially the 21st century.....then it didn't really match up to the heaviest metal

  • @drofnoise555 I'd say it got heavier over time :O

  • Jude.

  • 1:02 - 1:20 sounded arabic! :o I like it! :D

  • 1:47 groove metal

    2:15 nu-metal

    2:33 metalcore/deathcore

  • @MrKoP112 yes Dimebag was a pioner for grove with his shredding masterpieces

  • That first riff is f**king genius! I LOVE IT!!! oh man!

  • 70´s=glam,doom(wtf??)heavy metal

    80's=speed,thrash,(progressive),black,death,power,groove metal

    90´s=rap.gothic,melodic death,brutal death,nu metal

    2000=metalcore,deathcore,post-hardcore,nintendocore,etc... \m/

  • bloody excelent man . \m/ ... except the the break down at the end haha :P

  • Nice sword you got back there

  • This is rock music, not metal. There's just a tiny bit of metal guitar technique. Please inform yourself of the extreme parts of metal as well, there is a lot of instrumental technique and (more importantly) compositional technique that's missing. Metal isn't rock music, though that's part of its lineage. It has a philosophy, it is (was) a Romantic, artistic movement.

Cool video, even though it ends up being an inaccurate ticker under the terrible parts of the roots of metal. tl;dr: Slayer.

  • greatest thing ive ever seen!

starts good, gets more technical and tighter musically, starts to break from traditional riffs, and ends with palm muted breakdown type sound.... yup, good job at replicating the evolution of metal :)

we had Iron Maiden :))))) then we got Metallica :)) then we got Death :))))))))))))))))))))))) then we got Tool :))))then we got new Metallica :/ then we got Suffocation :( then we got Asking Alexandria :'(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

  • What equipment do you use to play in this video?

  • you forgot the chug a lug everyones doing nowadays xDDD good video tho

  • Fucking Awesome!! and nice solo with feel!

  • Now for 2011 all you need is...

    00 00 000000 0000 000 0 00 0000 0

Along with some emo kids flailing their arms around at vans warped tour!

  • @vOuijaa haha true ...i would thumbs up but dont know how

  • @vOuijaa

    Except in Viking/Pagan/Folk Metal ;)

But I also think that the best albums of Metallica (for example) are from the 80s

  • @vOuijaa: Yes ^^ That's because bands like Rings of Saturn are existing...and Dream Theater has released a new album and so on and so on ^^

You can't just say: Today is that. It just keeps growing and we're getting even new genres to the community = )

  • @vOuijaa yes is 000000 is you listen deathcore but if you listen Amon Amarth , In Flames

Dimmu Borgir , Kalmah there's no longer 000

  • @vOuijaa Dude. That's true shit. Metal should be more than just chug chug chug chug BREAKDOWN!

  • @MoonlapseOpethian totally dude

  • @vOuijaa >>>>>>>>>asking alexandria.........

  • @vOuijaa funny how u say that....what u mean to say is all the metal u listen to is all open chugs in drop D...just cuz its not on ur radio doesnt mean its not out there as i lay dyin, august burns red, all that remains, to name a few.. metal is alive and thriving.

  • @joesnuffy217 I love ABR, and I never listen to the radio.

  • I think i like the start of 1997 to the end

  • Metalcore is so fucking generic and unoriginal

  • @94Cioppa I could say the same about Thrash metal or Deathcore or Death metal, don't hate because you simply don't agree with it, it's that what borderlines as being a poser.

  • @94Cioppa YOU are fucking generic and unoriginal!

    (written by a metalcorefreak) ;)

  • @pogorolle Metalcore is like the gay cousin of the Heavy metal

  • @PandaLmao Don't generalize. Not every Metalcore band is commercial shit with clean ''teenage'' style vocals.

Some bands are even like Melodic Death Metal with a touch of Hardcore.

  • @PandaLmao you are like the gay cousin of Justin Bieber.

  • @pogorolle I love how little kids can't argue when they are just butt hurt 'cause they know I'm saying the truth.

  • @PandaLmao seriously, metalcore got nothing to do with heavy metal. rather with hardcore, i just dont like that emo shit in the middle of every metalcore song.

btw, i love how you didnt realise i dont give a shit bout your opinion. i didnt even try to argue with you, so save your time and do drugs.

  • @pogorolle I know what you mean. Emo shit in the middle of Metal Core = Bullet For My Valentine.

  • What song begins at 1983?

  • NO THRASH NO METAL

  • otimo video o cara toka muito

  • Thrash: wait for it...wait for it...wait...WTF!

  • Press 1, then 9 . : )))

  • MESHUGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS THRASH?

  • but that's not true that 1970 is the first year of heavy metal!!!!!!!

1968 blue cheer came with the cover for the song summertime blues they are the really first heavy metal band kiddie

  • Its funny how it started out easy, then got hard at the start of the 80's then progressively got easier again.

  • love what you do, but seriously, things were a little harder in the '80's LOL I saw Slayer Celtic Frost as well as Bathory, DRI, etc. in 85....

  • Muy bueno.. que manera de evolucionar los generos..!!

  • it is hard to put metal genres in line.. there are much of paralels. Neverthelss, good work

  • i like the technical part between 2005 and 2006

  • ah haha! 2005 on....breakdowns.. so true

  • Silly "core" breakdowns have shit all over metal.

  • Probally Melodeath and traditional =D

  • You suck

  • let me guess you like iron maiden, dream theater and scandinavian doom symphonic metal. no sabbath, metallica, megadeth or korn

  • the last style whitechapel 's breakdown style good!

  • @zoroflare i see you are jsut now getting into this type of music if you still like whitechapel.

  • you can also change at 480p

  • THIS DUDES GOT A REAL CHARVEL NICCEE

  • the year 2000 starting the era of shit mainstream metal

  • awesome \m/

  • where is the fuckin' thrash?!

  • @furkanpeker061 buried in a grave

  • AWESOME!

  • damn breakdowns for like ten years. you looked bored playing them too. also too bad metal split around the start of the 80s, gotta love the underground extreme

  • You can't perform an evolution of metal without changing your tunings at least twice

  • metal kicks in at 0:45

  • Nice guitar and bedroom.

  • charvel <3

  • 0:56 whats a title?

  • Comment removed

  • no sludge riffs??

  • idk if i agree with it exactly but kool track anyways.

  • based from what I heard in his vid! Blues Rock>>Hard Rock>>Heavy Metal>>Power Metal>>Thrash Metal>>Death Metal>>Symphonic Metal>>2001 to 2003 Lamb of God (lol)>>Metalcore or Deathcore I dunno, just my opinion \m/ Metal Rulez!!!

  • hahaha, I was like er, where's nu metal emerging at the 1996 sort of mark.. then it turned up and I actually LOL'd at 2005 - It's generic breakdown era!

  • 2005-Onward. My style.

  • @Sp3tsnazFTW From them words, I now know you are a A7X/Slipknot fag.

  • @AFC1903RULEEEE I dislike them both. Try again.

  • @Sp3tsnazFTW I think i have man love for you.

  • I did indeed like it

  • This redefines "progressive metal"

  • Loved it. Even though the riffs don't seem to reflect the years.

  • @king666nothing AT ALL!

  • great job dude :) u got mine like :)

  • it's not correctly. I think.

  • it all sounds from the same era actually. execpt untill 1994

  • i was surprised he didnt pull out any djenty-riffs at the end. D:

  • @DontDoubtCourage yah man, djent shoulda came in at about 2007 with the inception of periphery and what not

  • And the metal still being more and more heavie...

  • ...----'gheh ghannnn...'----

  • 2004-onwards = Deliverance (Opeth) ?

  • Notice how the technical ability needed to play the riffs decreased over time.

  • @GokiWartooth noticed that...

  • for some reason this reminds me of Dream Theater.......

  • mean viking flag in the back!

  • בונא אחי אתה גאון :D

    AMAZINGGGG !!

  • I would do in the following order: 1965 - 1968: blues rock 1968 - 1971: hard rock 1971 - 1975: heavy etal 1976 - 1978: first power etal 1979 - 1981: NWOBHM 1981 - 1983: glam metal 1983 - 1985: speed & power metal 1985 - 1986: thrash metal 1987 - 1990: death metal 1990 - 1992: norwegian black metal 1993 - 1995: gothic & symphonic metal 1996 - 1999: melodic death metal & power 2000 - 2004: nu metal 2005 - 2007: melodic metalcore 2008 - 2011: deathcore & mathcore
  • where are milions of views?

  • 2011: DJENT DJENT DJENT

  • imho, symphonic metal should become one of the most popular metal

  • So from '04 to now, it's been the same breakdown...?

  • @alban97 no it got better

  • excellent

  • i love how 2 top comments are the same xD
