  • 3:05 to 3:08 is SANDRA CHURCH who played Louise. This is in the Minsky number.

  • Just thought I'd point out that this is exactly how this overture is meant to be played... So far no one's bettered the original.

  • Thank you sooo much...Gypsy has been my favorite musical ever since I was seven years old. I've been in the show twice in community productions and it is one of my life goals to play Louise or one day Mama Rose.

  • You really put this together well!

  • 3:05 and 3:08.....Who is that?

  • Not sure. A member of the chorus. There are a few ladies listed as "showgirls",

For full credits go to IBDB...Internet Broadway Data Base. Thanks for viewing.

  • @johntlew Done some research....it's actually Sandra(as Gypsy) in the final strip.

  • the picture at 1:15 is that the real Gypsy Rose Lee? if it is thats cool that they re-created that dress for Tammy Blanchard in the 2003 revival...

  • Yes, it is the real Ms. Lee. I saw the 2003 revival and it very well could have inspired the gown worn by Ms. Blanchard.

  • thats really awesome. where did you find all these pictures?

  • I have a vast collection of souvenir programs, playbills and books. Glad you enjoyed. Watch my other musical posts, too.

  • Yes, that dress is displayed in the musical theater hall of fame section of The Gershwin Theater. I saw it! It's a beautiful dress.

  • Looking at these pictures is a treat! One features Merman, Jule Styne and Betty Hutton, who later took on the role of Rose (not on Broadway, and Bernadette Peters was her Dainty June!!!!!!!) Where on earth did you get some of the colored photos??

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this scrapbook from GYPSY! Many of the color pics came from a great book "Broadway Musicals, The 101 Greatest Shows of All Time" by Bloom and Vlastnik..great coffee table book with tons of great pics.

  • I have that book!!! But I have the more recent version when they put in the recent shows. I was most astonished by the color Roses Turn! I never knew the original production had Merman in purple!

  • Some marvelous pictures I had never seen before! Where on earth did you find them?

  • Excellent! Very time-consuming film. Thanks for finding all of these original shots. Good work! I really appreciate seeing the original photos. I love Patti Lupone, but Ethel Merman is the "Queen Mum."

  • *** GOOD MOVIE! ***

  • Jule Styne is also known for writing some of the best music for stage, screen as well as tunes for Sinatra, Garland, &c.. Thank God Mr. Sondheim, gifted as he is, did not attempt writing GYPSY on his own, as he wished to do.This is considered the quintessential Overture to any Broadway show. Both times I have witnessed this on B'way, I'm sad to say that Mr. Styne's overture was the high point of the evening,..receiving an ovation to match or surpass the performances given by any of the players.

  • I think jule styne is known for his long overtures. This one and the overture to Gentelmen prefer blondes are very long. Luckilly the music sounds great so its ok. if some shitty composer wrote and overyture that long the audience would be dead by the end of it. I love GYPSY!

  • You did a marvelous job on this!!! I LOVE the pictures and the overture. Oh how I remember this show, thank you so much for posting this.
