I grew up in Barrow, now living in Republic of Panama. Returned to Barrow to see family two years ago and couldn't believe the changes -- where are all the old pubs I spent my misguided youth touring?? Where are all the old red stone buildings?? Paxton Street, Paxton Terrace, Pass's?? The old market and Public Hall were knocked down long before I came here, sad. The old Market was a great building, should have been grabbed by the National Trust, wonderful building.
