  • I miss Ames, Circuit City, & Jamesway!!

  • The chair I'm currently sitting in is from Ames.

  • It's hard to believe Ames closed that long ago

  • It's funny how similar this going out of business/liquidation commercial was to the Circuit City ones that were aired in early 2009, right after that company decided to close all their remaining stores. I'm probably not the only one to see this similarity....

  • I remember going into a Ames in 2002 when they were closing (a store here in VA) and the A/C didn't work and they basically had the shelves in the store to sell you. It was very sad.

  • Lol luved Ames! Brings bck sch hppy memories! When stores actually were good n had good merchandise!

    RIP peace Ames u r strongly remebered/missed!!!!

  • Damn. I thought Hill's sucked until I went into an Ames.

  • I live in CT so there were alot of Ames in my area lol! There were like 10 within 15 miles of my house lol..... There are kinda like how wal-mart is now in CT... Speaking of K-mart there is only one left near me and it's a 40-45 min drive. So you know I just go to wal-mart which is 10-15 mins from my house lol!

  • Someone should upload a better quality version of this plus someone shoule upload a caldor going out of business commercial

  • it was my best store in my town and now its gone. i have to travel 35 miles just to find a kmart. the only store around my town is walmart. what do you expect.

  • The Ames near my town shutdown in early 2002. Everyone shopped there, it was sad to see it close. The worst part is the store manager was ordered to trash all the unsold items and pour paint on them so they couldn't be used/stolen, instead of donating it charity.

  • what a pity ames was the shit we had 1 in lima ohio and it only lasted 2 maybe 3 yrs

  • Ames came along after Zayre closed. I wasn't crazy about their merchandise.

  • @TheOldschoollover

maybe these stores didn't have the best methods of stocking inventory but it wasn't the same things every year on the shelves like walmart and target and it wasn't stressful going to these stores.

  • @The096757 You sure hit that on the head- SO TRUE! That, and I miss having a variety of places to go to. Fuck Wal*Mart and Target.

  • yes every season ames had new cloths and products on the shelves while target and walmart have the same items year after year. i will not buy from them because they put all my favorite stores out of business. around xmas time it felt like xmas time in stores like ames but it never feels like xmas in a target or walmart.

  • I bet the store was clogged with blacks, negroes can't turn down discount shit.

  • @bryandamadman

the ames i went to had a lot of white trash stealing makeup but not a lot of blacks.

walmart is for pigs and target for uptight infertile middle aged women and minorities.

  • Target is friendlier Walmart...more like Ames/Kmart.

Used to work for Ames and the morning I heard this announcement on the television during the news updates buffered between each half hour of the Today Show, I jumped right out of a sound sleep and saw my 2nd job fade away that summer.

  • what a shame..

  • I can't wait for Sears, Macy's, and Walmart to go out of business! I rememeber when Tiny Tim was in an Ames commercail. He was too cute!

  • i miss ames, montgomery ward, woolworths, hills, bradlees, gottschalks ect but i would love to see the day walmart and target go out of business since they caused all these other stores to close.

  • @The096757 I grew up with target and love Target. When I moved to Massachusetts I had an 8 year abscence from Target until they established a Target in 1999. I think people are having this love affair with Target.

  • @The096757 what about kmart?

  • @timberwolf84

the ambience of kmart never appealed to me and kmarts cloths suck unlike ames.

ames was a great place to shop in the 1990s. now there is nowhere left i can stand to go to to look around... same stores and products all over the USA nowadays.

  • i cant wait till walmart goes out of buisness

  • @BrooklynBaller101 I would commit suicide if Wal-Mart go out of business! I depend on their supercentres for my everyday errands.

  • Damn, I miss Ames dept store.

  • I remember Ames. Always wondered what they ended up doing after they closed. Wished they would come back. I was so sad when they tore down the Ames where I live and replaced it with Ollies.

  • I remember the ones in East Greenbush and Schenectady the most... the East Greenbush one became offices for CSC Corporation, while the Schenectady one became Price Rite or Ocean State Job Lot ^_~

  • I WANT AMES- AIDA TO COME BACK AND REVERSE NEWTON NJ!! BACK TO THE OLD TRILLA WAYS OF THOSE FALL DAYS NO WALMART AMES,BIG N MALL,NEWTON NJ EARLY!!aaaaaaaammmmmmmmmeeeeess!

  • Wow, I remember working at Ames in '02 and seeing piles of Game Gears. "Yeah, these'll sell REAL fast... ¬_¬"

Y'know, despite growing up with Ames and working there during its last year, I rarely ever saw any of their commercials (except on Ames' own television displays).

  • 2002? Really?

  • i ran that store in the end with the price gun son!!! shouts out to Dominick the Mgr of the FMR Ames,in Newton nj,if you out there take care and hold ya head!!

  • oh yeah, i worked at Ames too!

i was loss prevention at the leesport dc.

i took handcufs that they were going to throw out.

  • i worked in the westfield mass dc, i used to operate the sorter (conveyor system)

  • I remember the Ames in providence, I dont know what year but they STILL had gamegear games at the last day lmao :'(

  • I used to go to Ames for back to school supplies...but they had the crappiest bikes. They would fall apart within a day. LOL!

  • oh man...i remeber the ithaca location..EVERYTHING was on sale

  • They seemed awfully happy to be going out of business.

  • you know A smile behind the pain.....

  • I miss ames.

Btw, the video quality is good imo

  • I rember going to ames when i was really small. The Tonawanda and North Tonawnda locations are the ones i rember going to.

  • I worked there twice!! once as a sophmore in hs,got fired cause i would call out to be w this girl i was seeing, then late 02 when i came back from the Army.Part time when, they said too me"dont get hurt...we dont have any INSURANCE." I thought you gotta be fucking kidding me... boy did i run that AMES IN NEWTON NJ!!MAD ADVANTAGE OF THE PRICE GUN SON!!!!marked down a microwave from $75 to 20! shousth outth to the AMES ex employees out there hold ya head remeber AMES!!!

  • :'( sad

  • I bought me a gamecube for $70 during that time. Not to mention my first 4 gamecube games.

  • WOWZEERS!

  • Those paper towels get around, don't they?

(the Bradlees GOTB commercial on the site shows the same ones...)

  • hell yeah I'm still using my PC speakers(with mini subwoofer) from that ames closing sale!!

  • Ames was okay, but I liked Hills and MurphyMart better.Ames bought out those 2 stores(companies).

  • i remember when i was in elementry school and we had a ames like right by my house, like a 3 mintue walk, now its a fucking gay ass furniture store

  • i worked there at the dolton, il location and that store sucked. babyface was right, there was hardly anything in there worth while.

  • I also worked at the Ames dolton IL. location in loss prevention. I dont miss it

  • I went to the Gary Indiana location in the Village (former Goldblatts), and there wasn't much to buy from there. For what they did have, the regular sales were better than the going out of business sale. During the final days, the prices were jacked up many times, that the stuff eventually ended up being sold at Big Lots & various dollar stores (primarily Buck Stop in my area). When it reached Big Lots, the stuff typically sold less than Ames sales price.

  • I worked the last year and this is the first time I've seen this commercial. Then again, I rarely remember seeing ANY Ames commercial. EVER.

How do you expect to do any business when people don't even know you're there? ¬_¬

  • LOL. This ad makes it sound so happy that they are closing.

    Where were Ames located?

  • Northeast states but when they acquired Zayre, they had store all along the east coast.

  • @vibe88 they also acquired the old hill's department store locations too.

  • @vibe88 Never saw one down here in Miami...

  • @vibe88

Also when they acquired Zayre that opened up the midwest to them! Chicagoland area had alot of Ames stores!!

  • @nintendogsyo many in new york state, athens, horseheads, where two stores, and apprently in new hampshire. and much of the north east states. however im not sure if they spread into pa....well athens is in pa so probably in pa...and ohio.......ect..........

  • @deedundone Some in NJ, and RI.

  • I was thinking about one other thing about Hills I miss the popcorn smell when you first come into the store at food stand none of the stores have those now except Kmart.

  • And Walmart and Target.

  • I miss Ames but, I like Hills even better I wish Ames wouldn't have bought them out. I think maybe hills would still be around.

  • "EVERYTHING WILL BE SOLD RIGHT DOWN TO THE BARE WALLS!"

I hate noisy advertising like this. Not that makes a lick of difference to me since my family can't get stateside anyways.

  • I loved AMES R.I.P. AMES 4 LIFE

  • I remember going to an Ames GOOB sale where I live (Central Florida). I bought a Madonna CD in a long box and had to take it back because THERE WAS NO CD IN IT!!!!! They gave me a Best of Eddie Money cassette in is place.

  • I hate Ames, they killed Hills.Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  • I hate them because they killed the G.C Murphy chain.

  • I agree,I loved MurphyMart.They became Ames in like 85 or 86.

  • Amen I hated what Ames did to Hills back in 99. Ames was a pure dump.

  • Yeah Ames just wasn't the same compared to Hills.

Hills was always filled with products galore and when Ames took over, there was hardly anything worthwhile.

  • Yeah I miss Hills and Murphys Mart.

  • i lost my job i enjoyed because they went under

  • So sad. :(

  • For some reason I never managed to get my ass to an Ames before they went under! I lived near one for several years too.

  • man i remember going to that store when i was little

great store i hear some are still open

  • They sure were, and i bought a few items in that store.

  • I miss that store. They made a lot of stupid business decisions though which led to their eventual demise. Damn, I miss that store. When they were going out the liquidation employees were douche bags.
