The non QE Visco lok can be hard to cope with. The key is to hold steady throttle to allow the pressure to build. I have the QE on my 2010 and it kicks in in less then one turn now. Much nicer then my old 08.
What would be interesting to see is if you tried what I do in my pickup when rock crawling. My truck has a limited slip front and rear diff and when they start to spin like that can am did, I ride the brakes until the pressure is equal on both tires and eventually both tires lock up for me. I know it's kinda lame to have to do that over every rock but it might be worth trying.
i had to watch this again and i still would like to know if since now you have had any experience with the 2011 or 2010 visco lok qe it looks much improved.
I think he has a problem with the visco lok, I have a 2008 Renegade 800, and the wheel turns very first raised, 1 - 2 turns of the other wheels and active ....

Sorry I gotta be the Yamaha guy here. I love my kodiak 450, the independent suspension plus limited slip 4x4 for easy steering or locked front diff when I need it is unbeatable. Can am's, suzuki's, honda's, and kawasaki's are great quads but I never liked Polaris. They got good motors but very hard to steer in 4x4 climbing anything with the AWD.
It's hard to steer in AWD only when it locks. It only locks when the rear wheel spins 1/5 of 1 turn. It's similar to when you lock your 450, only it does it automatically. It works really well...especially rock crawling when momentum is required. One of our riders, has the Kodiak 450...it works well too. He's in that video somewhere.
@atvobsession Glad to see someone NOT knocking a yamaha just to do it! Polaris has always been a good quad, but the belt drives are pathetic compared to Yamaha. Personally, I don't want to wait for CRAP when I need true 4x4. Push button, off I go. FREAKING fantastic video BTW! Great job.
I know the polaris works good but they are ugly as $#%&.
they look like some cheep chinese toy.
the Suzuki King Quad works awesome and looks great, my opinion of course on looks.
I worked for a polaris, suzuki, kawaski and honda dealer for 3.5 years and I bought a King Quad cause of how well they work and how little they had issues in comp to others. 2008 750 and my bro has a 1991 300 king thats been through hell and still does better than most new quads he rides with.
My polaris is good at rock crawling and thats about it. The front wheels turn slower than the rear, driving in snow it sucks, just chugs through it back end swings around like a dogs tail. My 800 outlander with more HP and the locked in 4wd blows through snow like it's not even there.
Plus listen to the Polaris at the end, engine sounds like a piece of shit.
The trail is the Fordyce Trail in California, near Lake Tahoe in the Tahoe National Forest. The video was primarily shot on Winch Hill #3, and #4 out of 5 total.
i heard the new visco lok is great though? the visco qe. you should test a renegade xxc on those same trails i would be very interested to see how it would do
....get off the dam thing and push it off

Visco Lok will not engage if it under to much stress. Stuck quad is always better than a broken quad
