  • never heard any of her songs until she recently passed........heard this song on a college radio station today and i had to listen to it again! RIP Etta

  • The great Etta James and Harvey Fuqua (of The Moonglows) who produced her, New Birth and Sylvester to just name three...)

  • thanks Etta, rip

  • R.I.P Etta. You will be remembered always.

  • R.I.P.

  • i have a copy of this 45, i love it!

  • This is definitely a forever favoite of the soul Hall of Fame. Right?

  • @garnoldmusic You can count on my vote! Thx

  • There will never be anyone like Etta James !!!!! Love her.

  • Just gooooood music. Luv Miss Etta !

  • ~.♫ò♥.~ ETTA JAMES IS EXCEPTIONAL~.♫ò♥.~

In my opinion, not a single female artist

has sung with so much soul as Etta James.

Her voice is one which has travelled for many years

to touch the ears and lives of todays listeners,

and she will remain to do so for many years to come

Now that's a piece of pure heaven here on earth!

  • @Giavannanow Adele is pretty amazing too, she does a cover of Etta's Fool that I am, they both are amazing :D

  • @waltholm

    Grazie! I'll check it out.

    I'm also a fan of Adele ~

but I'll never forget the first time

    I heard this track;

    to say I was gobsmacked

would be an understatement!!! O..O laughing

    .

  • @Giavannanow It is an amazing song and she's so amazing live as well! Etta James has a live version of the song Id rather go blind with Dr. John and it is probably one of the best performances I've ever seen!

  • I believe I first heard this on Alan Freed's WABC radio show. It blew my mind. It might have been on Jocko's show.I loved Etta and Harvey. I knew he sang with the Moonglows, because I'm sure Alan or Jocko made sure we knew it even though his voice was unmistakable.

  • @fredo5115 Yea, if I recall correctly, Alan Freed had Harvey and the Monnglows on his stage shows. Ever heard SPOONFUL?

  • @srercrcr I replied by e-mail, I'm not sure you received it.

  • (L)

  • i got this cd her and Harvey blow the song go head they sang it . i love this song!

  • We who lived during the period knew how great this tune was. America was not universally tuned in, we in our various own neighboorhoods knew, and we checked it out. I remember as a young teen one of the cool kids telling me that Harvey was from the Moonglows, and when we listened more intensely we all nodded our heads, "Cool". Yes it sounded different then, but Oh Boy could Etta James distinct "wailin" sound blow you away! 50 years later it still takes me back, whew! God Bless Etta&Harvey.

  • @d0walden Well said. I don't believe this song made it past tthe R&B station in SF, but it was well received on the R&B side. One more sample of what kept us glued to the R&B station, awaiting the next cool song...perhaps WAY OVER THERE by the then-unheard of Miracles on the then-unheard of Tamla label. We were blessed. Connie Francis, Freddie Cannon, and Frankie Avalon had their own station.

  • @srercrcr : "Way Over There", my favorite Miracles song of all time. The Jo Hunter piano, the acknowledgement of the Funk Brothers, and the digital remastering of these old classics has made me appreciate more fully what we have witnessed and enjoyed. I wore the 45 out as a kid, and my car AM radio only captured the bass and Smokey, but now I hear it all and marvel at the arrangement, the lyrics, and the musicianship, Whew!

  • @d0walden Did you know there were two releases of Way Over There? The first had no strings and was a little more earthy, I believe Berry pulled it right away, had it redone. Same with Shop Around.

  • Dear dear harvey.....you were a fabulous producer on my very first professional endeavor...will always remember the wonderful times we had in the studio with Sylvester and the Two Tons, Martha and Izora.....

    Jeanie Tracy

  • thats what I call music..........

  • RIP Harvey!

  • @miseryguts36 I'll second that. What a giant. He'll live on right here on the Tube.

  • Definitely on the playlist at my reception.

  • Etta is amazing... thanks so much for sharing this!!!

  • @saucie17 Glad u enjoyed. Harvey isn't too shabby either. Beyonce dropped the ball on Cadillac Records by not featuring the Moonglows or Bo Diddley. I see u like John Lee...try SOLID SENDER (Baby, you send my soul)

  • @srercrcr

Solid sender? Thanks I don't think I've heard that one.

  • @saucie17 Once I get my main computer back from the doc I'll see if I can upload it.

  • That is sooo good, I never get enough of that song :)

  • Thx, it amazes me how many people are on YT that have great musical taste.

  • I recently bought an Etta James complilation on itunes and by the way I discovered this song. I was soo amazed :)
