This is the original version, from the1972 album "Talking Book".They only added the brass section for the single, which charted in England in 1973.Jim Gilstrap & Lani Groves sing the first two lines on both versions, though I've no idea why that occured.I personally prefer the original version with no brass, but each to their own.Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.
I first heard this song on this album. I first heard this version, the one without horns. I hear the horns version on the radio. Was that version a single version?
i think there's a legitimate reason to dislike this if you have good enough headphones. while im listening the sound is wobbling from the left to the right ear and back, hurts my ears. wonderful song though.
I mentioned the same snickering laughter they mixed into the song at 1:48, i know what you're talking about, the sound my uncle makes when i turn around to face my Thanksgiving dinner plate full of food and he just hid it from me at the table.
So I was just listening to this song in my room alone... And all of a sudden... I heard this laughing from the left of my room. Like in the back, in the dark somwhere.. And it sounded like a witch. So I called 911. And then realized.. Well... FML 1:48
I like this version a lot more! The other version features a brass section when Stevie first comes in....this version is more soothing and calming without it in my very honest opinion.
A 26 personas no les gusta esta cancion? o es por que son puristas y notaron que no se escuchan muy bien los instrumentos de viento, o es por que de plano no les gusta la musica.
people hate on that little boy. if justin beiber was your son, youd cry with joy and pride to see him up on stage so happy and its for teens, remember? dont be such a butt.
20+ dislikes?!?! LOL! They are probably Justin Bieber fans!
Stevie Wonder has been on top of the charts for decades with tons of awards in the music industry in his bag. I bet the Bieber kid will not last 2 years!
Talking Book, along with Dark side of the moon,Tapestry,Bridge over troubled water,De ja vu,Mud slide slim, and several others will remain in my treasured vinyl original selection until passed on to my son,Aneurin
I always find that when I listen to Stevie Wonder's recordings, I'm also amazed at the great arrangements...the musicians and backups are just stunning, so precise and perfect. Maybe because he couldn't see, he had such a great ear for detail. Where did he get these people? seriously!
@luhkelsgoinhard93, I heard that too, back then, a remixed version with horns. @dcervantes711, she must have been fairly young back then, because she did "Gonna Take A Miracle" in 82'.
When he gets to the part where he says"You must have known that I was lonely, because you came to my rescue" someone in the backgound vocal starts with that snickering laughter.
I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like

@Kurochanz24 I agree, songs back then actually had real words and each with a unique tune that made even the instrumental version enjoyable--tunes you could remember and hum all day. Songs were so uplifting and really had a beat like the classic R&B in the 70s and even in the 80s, like some Earth Wind & Fire, The Gap Band, and Zapp. Somewhere along the line though things started to change. Much of today's music starts to all sound alike--screaming and violence seems to be a common theme. Sad!
I'm twenty and I'm so happy because I did not got stuck with today's music but instead inspiring myself with music that brings real joy to the soul..I just feel the need to thank God for Stevie Wonder..
@Kurochanz24 I think today's music is just as valuable as that of the past. I think many people do not understand the joy inherent in today's music. Personally I am happy that there is variety.
Stevie Wonder has never made a bad record; every one is a keeper and a classic! That said, "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" is one of the reasons the Talking Book album will always have a special place in my heart.
I am happy you agree with me on some points. I think they are damaged too; but, I also think anyone who cannot enjoy all kinds of music from all kinds of artists is damaged. I do not enjoy some kinds of music, and I am sad about it; I think I have a little piece missing from my mind, and a world of emotion absent from my experience.
we dedicated this song today to our beloved new daughter Nitzanya Tova- who is breathing and wanting life so much herein Jerusalem.. She wants this world so much she came into it 15 weeks early- to help us appreciate what we got going.. Prayers for her growth- Nitzanya Tova daughter of Shayna Liba... much appreciated! thanks Stevie
What happened to the "soul" of black music? Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, The Platters, Earth Wind and Fire, and so on? Not to mention Billie Holiday or the rest. This stuff is timeless.
@EdMahoney19 society/ people are different today- Kids tend to flock to artists whose image is sold to them thru media hype-Talent is secondary-They don't know any better- Talent used to be the ONLY thing!! - I don't think it will change-Too many artists make too much money from the music they saturate the youth with- Not in the industry's interest to change that- When we die off that will be the end-They'll ask- Who the hell was Stevie Wonder?
@knoxunflower1 Aaaah, brilliant...thanks! After years of hearing the other one, no matter how much I like this version, I just can sing the horn part.
@raremountainbear I was 4. Still have the 45 (which has a horn section on that version), and my sister gave me the album. 1st pressing vinyl: spotless, and braille on the cover. Love it....
I don't know why, but this song just made me someone else.. I feel like in dreams when I'm listening this song with closed eyes :* I love this song soo.. much (h)
Thanks Stevie...Your mood gives me flowers in my Heart...I listened to a Singer called MO'SEAN, Soulful, him too, "Give you my Soul" is the Opus, extraordinary well-written, well composed..This is a wonder..A L.P. is on our way and I won't miss it, the video is a summum of Beauty, ..Thanks YOUTUBE for those finds, it's a pleasure to have well moments like these....To My SoulMate
I feel so privileged to have lived when Stevie Wonder lived, and when he made this music that will last millions of years.
