bmw535xi is an inline 6 twin turbo, but it's two small turbo's and i'm pretty they put out like 8 lbs of boost....but personally i would replace them with two garrett ball bearing turbos, but....thats just me
i love the 5 series , i have the 545i , but really the mercedes have more motor , i think that Bmw need to create a new motors for example for the M6 a V12 BITURBO to compete with the Mercedes SL65 AMG V12 BITURBO , and on this race if the owner of this bmw put a 550i vs e500 , really the 550i win! mercedes is more heavy than Bmw.
ok here it is. I have never drove a bmw on the track but i hear that they are great. I do drive my e500 4 matic on the track and i love it. it holds the road like no other i have ever been in. it is fast as hell when i am on the ball, i must shift correctly which is hard with shifttronic but well worth it..... and p.s. it is not a s class which is a old man car it is a e class and is MUCH nicer than any bmw ..

Both very nice cars, being younger I'd go with the 535 but the future old man in me is yearning to get behind the wheel of a big Benz.
You are basing you opion on specs alone. You are obviously a teenager who has no driving experience to understand how a mercedes can't offer the exact same driving pleasure as a bmw. This has always been the case. The m came out long before the amg did, also to let you know. Hp means nothing if a car can't handle itself in a turn. Specs mean nothing. It's the test driving of the car which means something and it's obvious you don't have that experience.
The MB:s handle extremely well.. but they are calibrated for autobahn use not track use. Some people tend to drive more on normal roads than on tracks.. The only thing that MB handles less good then BMS is fast transitions from one side to another. MB:s don't want to shift direction as easily as the BMW:s due to caster angle and other built in geometrics. On the other hand that gives the MB better stability in a straight line. Less "nervous" and more relaxed handling. Most people don't get this.

Think about it, when you are turning the wheel, the front tires are at an angle to keep you planted and to reduce understeer when taking a turn. Its kind of like a freeway off/on ramp, notice how they are tilted to keep you from understeering and going into a ditch?

@TZIRNI , dont go by the manufacter's claims. Go by professional road test editors claims. The 5.5L V8 E550 and the new F10 550i both run 0-60 mph in exactly 4.8sec and 1/4 mile in the low 13s range. (Dont think more power means faster, you forgot that the 550i weighs 400lbs more than an E550).
Also, dont forget next year the Mercedes E550 gets a twin turbo charged V8 to replace the NA 5.5L V8. If the old E550 keeps up with the new 550i, just think what the improved E550 will do.
Some road tests are bullshit belive me.E550 W212 maybe goes 0-100 in 4.8 sec.But after that the 550i F10 takes it.No you can't call the W212 old car.It's was launched last year....just think what the F10 M5 will improve.The old M5 still beated the older E63 AMG around track and acceleration.in 1/4 the Merc was only just few secs faster.

But when it comes to V8s, V12s, and high-performance engines in general, I cant think of any BMW engine that is better than its AMG competition. You'd have to an absolute moron to tell me BMW has anything on torque-monsters like the 6.2L NA V8 or the 6.0L V12 BiTurbo.
And NO, look at the quarter mile times. Both the E550 and F10 550i run low 13s at around 105-110 mph.
