  • now with the crisis greek mafia will screw all motherfuckers

  • Simply one of the best scenes in Television history. Epic.

    Man I miss this show.

  • That passport at 0:46 is Croatian :DD

  • This song is worthy of any big blockbuster my favourite greek song ever.

  • Best season

  • Am I the only one who would've liked to see a spinoff show about the Greeks?

  • @TheGravitationist I'd like that too. But I'd like to see some of their overseas operations. The violence that drug/sex traffickers commit in the likes of Russia, Ukraine and the Balkans would make the worst of what happens in the States look like a bad day in a kindergarten

  • ancient Greece was better than modern Greece

  • @HatersHater1000 BS...what part of Modern Greece have you seen?

  • @1964Loukas Mykonos kicks ass!

  • Idiots you dont get it? They were russians...

  • in this show Greeks mafias are badass mothafuckas, so smart, so manipulating, so awsome xD

  • @Doze67 they were russians you idiot...

  • @gu3st8 dude, some of them were greek.they were speaking greek and at one scene "the greek" was reading a greek diaspora newspaper

  • @florakos sure, but "the greek" also said that hes not greek in the last episode I guess

  • @gu3st8

just watch season 2 and shut ur biiig mouth :]

  • @Doze67 God damn fukkin idiot they were just pretending it... If you didnt understand it, at least read about it

  • @gu3st8

i know... but everybody call them the greeks, so for me it's the greeks, even if they're russians.

  • жаль не арестовали этих ублюдков

  • vote: this show or dexter??

  • BTW singers name writes like Stelios Kazantzidis

  • Really Best Sequance

  • greeks are jew, but noit stelios!

  • My girlfriend watches Glee and Grey's Anatomy and she says MY shows suck! This show would blow her universe if she'd just sit down and watch it with me.

  • @rossobass420 u tell her dude

  • I know alot of people who didn't really like this season and I think they're all great, but this one was one of my favs

  • Where they really Russians?

  • @WHERESAMERICAGOIN Yes. Thats how the real russian mob operates in every country... False ID-s, legal businesses, extortion etc

  • can anyone please tell me why at the end they say:' "The greek" was important for the counterterrorism'??

  • the greek is from minor asia turkey imigrated to usa after the war as most of the usa greek people(im talking only about the old man the greek)thats why he is not greek he came as turkish citizen!!!!

  • A hot (piece of) iron in my heart I have It’s your love that tortures me In my entire life I will have A burden on my conscience (because of) the many mistakes of mine That turned you away from me She left, she left, she left, I lost her And I wander, and I ask And the streets I've taken (wander) I wake up from my sleep and I ask for you Now I understood how much I love you...... (repeat verse 1)
  • and of course...hes not even Greek

  • 2 сезон все же лучший.

  • One of my FAVORITE endings. Sad of course, but brilliant!

  • Croatian passport :) .... Balkan ......

  • Greek is Armenian..... ortodox buisness

  • Among the crimes of the suposed "Greek" is the murder of Greek language.

  • @MrGiorki I lol'd :D

  • @MrGiorki That's because he's not even Greek ;)

  • @MrGiorki

Spiros: He knows my name, but my name is not my name. And you... to them you're only "The Greek."

The Greek: And, of course, I'm not even Greek.

  • @MrGiorki ...Cause he's not Greek.

  • @MrGiorki especially since he's not even greek

  • @MrGiorki

    Lol.

The Greek: And, of course, I'm not even Greek.

  • @MrGiorki he's not even greek :)

  • This is a minor complaint about an otherwise perfect show, but do you really think a mole is going to be dumb enough to use the FBI landline phone to call a known gangster? I find that hard to believe.

  • @krishnm I thought about it too, but it seems, that the guy was so high in FBI hierarchy, that he would know if someone was watching him, and being in counter-terrorism after 9/11 propably gave him more clearances, connections etc. that he knew, he was safe

  • @krishnm You really think Koutris was a mole? The relationship between Koutris and The Greek was portrayed as a common business practice. The Greek gave intel to Koutris on supposed "terrorists" and Koutris tipped The Greek off when there was some heat coming his way. Look at Fitzhugh's reaction when he learns about the leak, he's more angry at himself than Koutris. The FBI's agenda has changed, they're willing to let a drug dealer off if they can get information on terrorists.

  • @TheGameisTheGame1 The greek was just an informant, this is common practice.

The writers of this show employed many ex FBI guys for this season.

  • @2204Alpha Yeah, that's what I said.

  • @krishnm It's almost stated outright and hinted at. Hinted at as you saw, Koutris worked Counter-Terrorism and all that, which was/is the Bureau's main focus now, and if you think about it: Are they gonna tap their own people? And Koutris already made the very large drug bust, tit for tat with The Greek, in the role of "stopping terrorism". Let a small fish go (and if you don't care about a few murders here 'n there and drugs then it is) to catch a big one (the terrorists whoarefinancedbydrugs)

  • The wire was so good it made the sopranos look bad and the sopranos was an excellent show. I dont know why people have beef with it these days.

  • best show on HBO, forget about the "sopranos"!.

i just wish the greeks were a little more convincing on the show. the accent's were horrible!

  • this is the best sequence ever put on film and shown on tv. its as close to perfect as you can get. A masterpiece.

  • I love the line "your way. It wont work" Like the Greek knew Spiros was wrong in the first place. I also loved the way The Greek picked up on Spiros' "weaknesses" when remarking how he thought Spiros had developed a father son relationship with Nick

  • I'm guessing that "The Greek" was from Cyprus.

  • once again the Greek was not Greek. Vodas is Greek. The Greek is Armenian. He mention to the Sailor about being Turskish "this not the old days" talking about the Ottoman Empire who cast genocide over Armenian people. The Ottoman empire is now call Turkey.

  • probable, given the armenian genocide, but he could just as well be portuguese or brazilian in the show, given that he speaks several languages

  • Regarding the Greek's comment "I'm not even Greek", it doesn't sound like he meant it literally. He was responding to Spiros' comment that his name isn't even his name, because he has many passports and when using one of them, he becomes the name on the passport, leaving anyone pursuing a previous name cold. The Greek then implies that he can do the same thing, that when assuming a false identity, he can redefine his racial/cultural heritage. Whether he was actually Greek is still debatable.

  • Et dire qu'en France les grecs ont une réputation de gros pd...

  • is sobatka greek or polish?

  • @malleymyster

    Polish-Catholic.

It's not clear if the Greek is really Greek though.

  • @malleymyster he is polish-american

  • Frank Sobotka was a great character, the last American Hero. This part was so sad.

  • greeks will R.I.P the world some day...remember that

  • remember that not all of the members are Greek, possibly not even the bosses themselves

  • Im Greek but i cant help but be curious as to why they chose a GREEK "mafia" as a pose to the traditional Italian or Russian for example... Is this a true story? Is there such an organization in Baltimore that is Greek?? Please help lol im fascinated! :)

  • @klklklklklklklklllll

There is a small Greek district in Baltimore, a lot of Greek immigrants moved there, though I don't think there is quite a 'mafia' like the 5 families in New York, but of course there are crime families in all ethnicities and Greeks are no exception. The Italian/Sicilian families operate in New York and New Jersey and rarely in the drugs business, so there is a niche there for other crime gangs.

But remember, The Greek isn't even Greek ;)

  • @klklklklklklklklllll they're not greeks in fact, they pretend to be greeks so they lead the police on a wrong way

  • @4non1m0u5

They are greeks. And the Greek has roots from Greek. Thats what the characters bio says written by the writter of the wire.

  • LOVE THE SONG

  • Efyge - efyge

  • @ quelorepario porque no te andes a la concha de tu madre? Sos un hijo de mil putas. (Its called a cover pelotudo... you would be surprised that I can write and even speak CASTELL ANO ("LL" pronouced like "SH") but you wouldn't kno that Im half Greek half Argentine :)... go back to la puta que te pario you fukin gook and learn something properly before you want to reply.

  • This entire sequence is so perfect. David Simon is a genius.

  • Pooor frank :[

  • actually maybe he was cypriot, that would explain why people thought he was greek, and why could speak greek, etc. Also his animosity towards turkish people

  • @joyorder93 Cypriots are greeks tbh. L2read history ignorant.

  • @ sakisg088 the greek was russian, but yes vondas was referring to the fake passport

  • motherfukers if the greek wasn't greek then why the fuck did he speak greek throughout the series, why did he use a greek diner as his headquaters, why did he eat greek food at a greek restaurant, why did he have a komboloi and why did he drink ouzo? When the greek said he "wasn't greek" and vondas said "my name is not my name" they were refering to the fake passports they were going to use to leave the country.

  • @sakisg088 he might have been albanian, albanians are known for their organised crime in regards to international contraband and shipping, mostly of women

  • @sakisg088 hey noob, it is called a cover. Right now you can hear me writing perfect English. You would be surprised hearing me speaking Argentine Spanish fluently, but you would never ever imagine that I am actually a Korean.

  • @sakisg088

Spot on, coming from a Greek.

  • i ain't greek.... lol, that cracked me up...! good show, aqnd i loved it when they said "i

    ain't even grekk" lol

  • spiros is a fucking legend

  • i just finished season 3 and i have to say that in my opinion you cant even compare season 2 to 1 and 3

season 2 is the best season of any series season i have ever seen (and i have seen good ones..breaking bad s2, sopranos s1,s3 etc)

i read comments about season 4 is the best so i have very high expectations now

  • @lordtyrn Season 2 is the best season by far followed closely by season 4

  • " Your way, its no good "

  • @scaredmonkey the greek says "your way. it won´t work"

  • @paaaaaaaaaco I know thats what i said

  • @scaredmonkey i only read yout 1st message from 8 months ago :S

  • frank got what was commin to him

  • This is the scene that finally made me start liking Season 2.

  • @Dogar230 Ye same!

  • the worst guy never is from usa

the american people always have good heart...

good telefilm, but why aren't they americans???

usa... always the same... they are the good boys

(sorry for my english, and yes, it's ironic)

  • @McArra1985 "The americans are always the good guys" -> Define: American.

As far as I see, most of the Americans portrayed here are direct descendants of irishmen..

  • @McArra1985 are you kidding me most the bad guys on the wire are Americans. Of course some of the bad guys are foreigners but what do you expect when it comes to drugs. America doesn't produce Heroin or Coke its shipped here by foreigners working with Americans which is how its portrayed on The Wire. By the way your English does suck.

  • @Tophawk36 im spanish. sorry for my english.

america doesnt produce drugs... but they have the money to buy it, and the boss is always who has the money man.

a greek (or turkish or from cyprus...) buying coke in colombia and selling in eeuu... is not strange?

the power of the tio sam

  • @McArra1985 Exacto. America siempre ha sido el pionero en todo, no podía ser menos en cuanto al mercado de droga.

By the way, the fucking Spiros Vondas looks like Brian Johnson. And he is even not Brian.

  • Paul Ben-Victor

  • @Tophawk36 No way dude.....Out of all the kingpins they feature who is evades the law and is never captured? The Greeks! They are the bosses of Baltimore because no one knows who they are.

  • @McArra1985 Because that is how the world works. The united states is a drug consumer not a drug producer.

  • Hey I gotta say, that was a really well done cut- made the repeat match up well with itself, and made the dialog actually work all by itself lol. Nice.

  • why didnt they ever try to go after these guys after sesson 2?

  • Fuckin with this shit all day

  • hi everybody!

I am Turkish, i live in belgium and I love this song! i love Stelios i love kemence (lyra) Stelios is the best! forget the past we turks and greeks can do great things together!

cheers from Belgium cheers from Trabzon!

The wire is my favorite tv show and when i saw this part whit this song daaammmmmmn too good!

    sorry for my english ;)

  • i wish they could have shown the confrontation between frank sobotka and the greeks and showned him getting killed

  • Avon, String, Marlo, Slim all local... The Greeks are global Motherfuckers

  • A free translation of the song:

I have a piece of hot iron into my heart

It is your love that tortures me

I will carry my so many mistakes that made you leave

as a burden in my conscience for all my life

She is gone, she is gone, i have lost her

And wander to the streets asking for her

  • @athanas100 thank you so much, that was very nice!! I love that song i listen to it every day on my way to work, sometimes i wish my drive is little longer so i can to it 100 time :)

  • Yo somebody please tell me the name of that greek song... Shit bangin

  • Efige Efige is da name mofokka!

  • Music by Stelios Kazatzidis - "ena sidero anameno" its in the info

  • @RISKILNIKIV Efuge Efuge by Stelios Kazantzidis

  • so you think we are so bad ?

  • do u know the name of that greek song? Shit bangin

  • Turks and Greeks hating eachother should slap themselves really hard. If that doesnt help then jump off a bridge or something.

We have sveral millions with ancestors either in Greece or Turkey, speaking the both languages (Stelios Kazatzidis sings in turkish too). Our culture, music and the people are thevery same with different names and language. Stop acting like idiots over an dot on some fucking map...

  • this have to be one of the greatest scenes ever in the wire, and the music really does it

  • pretty sure the greek spoke turkish in the first/second episode of season 2 where they kill the sailor

  • @gauchebag

    It was pontian greek

  • yeah yeah same shit

  • The Wire - the best tv series ever made._

    greetings from Greece

  • The Greek wasn't even Greek. He says it himself in Episode 11 or 12, when he and Spiros were laughing about it in the hotel.

Good luck figuring out what he really is though, I definitely can't make it out from his accent or anything.

  • I still think the 2nd season was the best.

We never met such a... genius like the greek anymore.

Compared to the greek, string and marlo are stupid project fools.

He had such an impact everytime he was in the picture. I would consider The Greek as one of the most intelligent characters ever. These 3 Men are perfectly organized, no federal can fuck with them....

I'd put The Greek in one line with Prof. Moriarty,

  • The greeks were really heavy motherfuckers.

  • @baucaralho the greek probably does business with osama bin laden

  • @jcracker

What the fuck are you talking about? Why would a Jihadist ultra-radical muslim want to get involved with narcotics?

  • @KingOfTheShrews Don't forget that money of Talibans come from drug (heroin...)

  • @baucaralho yes indeed! you could not like them even if you wanted to!!! :P great series, but just like any other series with supposed greek characters, their pronunciation sucked! they wouldn't pass for greeks in a million years! ...there is ONE glorious exception to that, though, with the guy that played Talbot in True Blood, and that's because he was Greek (or Cypriot maybe)!

  • @FaniKatsiki They aren't even Greek you fucking idiot. Did you watch the show at all or are you just that stupid?

  • @MiniBaller4774 yes,ok! you're right!they said that, but I was just commenting on the portarayal of greeks in foreign films and series in general! it was just an opinion! ...and if you hate your life for whatever reason, it doesn't mean you should write so mean comments! try being polite every once in a while! oh! ...and Merry Christmas, btw!!! :)

  • Pontians are widely considered to be the BEST Greeks.

    :-)

  • The Greek is most likely a Pontic Greek. He has that accent and he refers to a long-running feud with the Turks.

  • Στέλιος Καζαντζίδης

  • "Nicky! From the Docks!"

  • avon and marlo were small dope slingers compared to the greek

  • @dazza5266 Yeah man the Greek was the fucking boss in the Wire as far as I am concerned. I hate when people say that Season 2 sucked. That season shows who was is really behind major crime in the cities and how drugs and guns get in.

  • I liked all the crime organizations in the Wire expect the Stanfield Organization. Vondas was the best in Season 2.

  • "the greek" isn't albanian or russian - he's armenian, just listen to the exchange between him and the sailor ( who was turkish ) they killed over the dead prostitutes - he makes subtle references to the centuries-old beef between turks and armenians - "turkish, huh? you got that little hook on your nose. don't worry, patrioti. i got nothing against the turks. that was the old world, this is the new." amazing and enigmatic, none the less.

  • He def isn't Albanian. I think "The Greek" was a Pontian Greek (or something involving Pontian Greek). Pontians are from Black Sea region - Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria etc - which could explain accent, him drinking vodka and using koboloi (greek)

Also the reference to a beef with Turks - there is a very real centuries-old beef b/w Greeks and Turks, particularly for Pontians - the Pontian Genocide and forcible mass transfer of Ottoman Greeks.

Plus the song might be a clue - Kazantzidis is Pontian

  • @SofiaY84 he is not pontian greek from soviet union.First ofall a pontian greek will never say that he is not greek.Secont of all George Pelecanos who write this part don't know the pontians from the ex-soviet union.

  • Yeah, but you know who else dislikes the Turks: The Greeks, thanks to a feud over a little island state called Cyprus.

  • @brwhizz

Sure, their governments are opposed on the issue of Cyprus, and thus so are some of the moronic nationalists. But I'm sure the more educated and intelligent Greeks and Turks don't have any animosity at all towards each other.

I doubt that either Spiros or The Greek particularly give a shit about Greek or Turkish foreign policy, so even if The Greek is actually Turkish, the rightful sovereignty of Cyprus probably isn't an issue between them ;)

  • the greek is the most badass character in any tv series

  • Its business, always business

  • This song is so cool. Greek music is awsome :)

    Whos singing this ?

  • this is our godfather of greek music the one and only Stelios Kazantzidis!

  • big tune

  • thank you so much for helping me find this song!!!! recently bought the full series of the wire and im on 3rd season (second time going through it) show is even more fucking amazing the second time around

  • I would like to horse this moment to announce my en- horse- gagement to a horse named horse

    horseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosrehorseshorseshorsehorsehorsehosre

  • I don't know why you got Horse up there. Horse don't know shit. I'll testify to that.

  • pame re sombodka gia neo ergatiko kinhma me ta3ika prwtova8mia swmateia.

  • also thought season 2 was underrated. Some great characters in it-Ziggy, Horseface, Spiros, Frank. Valchek vs Frank was hilarious. This is a great song and fitted the scene brillantly.

  • ela sombodka gamhse ta ola

  • Season 2 was soooo underrated. I think because it wasn't so hood focused. I loved it and I'm a young black guy...and I love the song...absolutely love it.

  • fucking sobotka

  • Season 2 was a complete masterpiece of drama

  • poor Frank

  • Is this show F**king great or IS THIS SHOW GREAT ,

  • The Greeks are amazing! They are so damn cool =D

  • Yes they represent an orgainisation in society who are "untouchable" unlike Avons or Marlos Crew

  • Season 2 is the best.

  • yes i agree!!! it still had the streets but the port and the organized crime that run it are true to every port city.

  • i just seen this scene on italy tv...

    best show ever.beautiful moment.

    r.i.p Frank Sobotka

  • one of the best scenes..

  • Comment removed

  • Best show ever. I would be surprised if they can ever do better than this show in TV history. What a great song to accompany the season finale!

  • they couldnt have picked a better song

  • luv this song

  • This is the best put together episode in all of TV.

  • The Wire along with The Sopranos has 2 be the greatest show ever

  • Love the song!
