  • Thank you so much for posting this! Very helpful! :)

  • Thank you I'll try it with my new kittens

  • Ooh, I like the tip on how to hold the kitty. I will try that out.

  • what if you have a nasty cat??

  • @Megnut187 kill it

  • My Max used to be good about us trimming his nails. I'm a totally blind cat owner so my mom would do the trimming while i'd hold him. And while he would occasionally nip at her or pull away a bit he never got aggressive. Well my mom started working again recently so hasn't had the time to come over regularly, so he's sort of gotten rusty. In fact last time she tried he bit her pretty good. So I'm worried I may have to take him to a vet or groomer and that can be expensive. But I won't declaw.

  • where can i get thos clippers plz msg me thanks ^u^

  • thank you

  • "ogres are like cat nails!"

  • Wow my cat flips out when i try and cut them when i go to cut them he goes to bite me :S

  • I was able to get three claws trimmed but it's hard b/c he's got tufts of fur at each claw. Any recommendation there? It is important I get this right, or hubby may declaw my baby. I could not bear it..

  • I like everybody else my,kitten is 5months old and he dont like it. do we have a kitty drug??

  • does that work on kittens

  • Is there anything that I can drug my kitty with, something like a dart tranquilizer that lasts for a few minutes? She goes ape shit the minute I try to touch her feet! Even when shes asleep, she is very alert when it comes to defending her paws!

  • 1:41 "Like an Onion" ;) Kitchen stuff, I wouldn't of known

  • my kitten scratches or bites me whenever i try to trim her nails

  • help Dr. Christianne my cat bit me!

  • what did you drug that cat? mine flips a shit when i try to cut her nails! she even growls sometimes

  • @somthiinXswe3t Patience is important when starting to trim your cats nails. Charlie in the video is used to having his paws handled and has received regular nail trimmings since he was a kitten. Giving positive reinforcement with treats and getting your cat used to having her paws handled will help with trimmings.

  • @softpawsnailcaps Band-aids. Band-aids and bactiene are important. No amount of patience seems to work with my Bob.

  • @softpawsnailcaps I saw a video of a cat wresttle with a baby and it had it's paws all over the toddler. I have been told the reason the baby wasn't hurt is because the cat coul retract it's claws. But even so from your video it looks like even if they retracted their claws if a cat was to touch some one with it's paws while the claws were put away it still looks like it would hurt. Basically a little bit of the claws seem to be out yet in that video I saw the little baby boy wasn't hurt at all

  • @softpawsnailcaps Can you please explain this? Do the claws fully retract all the way into the paws?

  • THATS FUSSING AROUND?! my cat flips out when i attempt anything close to this.

  • The best way to usually get their nails is to wait until they're sleeping and then surprise clip their nails. You can usually get 2 or 3 before they catch on.

My Bengal and Siamese are chill though and they don't fight back.

  • My kitten would bite and/or scratch the hell out of my face...

  • i think you need to trim your nails :D

  • LOL, that cats so chill!

  • Thank you so much! Now I can trim my kitty's nails!

  • My 3 month old kitten does not stay that still. LOL. she's kind of crazy.

  • "Then you take your nail clippers and just put them over the very tip and snip!" - Lolno. Not with female kittens anyway.

  • Thank You D. Christina :D

  • @softpawsnailcaps i have a kitten he is 5 months old do u think is should start clipping his claws or is he to young

  • Where did all the clippings go? You better vacuum up!

  • ooooo thank u soooo much for this video!!!! i managed to clip my cats nails with no problem!!! before i had only the problem on how much short them up and in this video u explained it PERRRRFECTLY!!!!! ooo thank u thank u thank uuu

  • Comment removed

  • Can you please tell me what kind of clipper is that? The name of it? The brand? :p

  • Ohhh so thats how you use the cat trimming thingy. Thanks!

And the cat is so cute~ ><

  • So I adopted a 2 year old cat 3 weeks ago. How long is it appropriate to wait until I start cutting his nail. Mind you that he's not really comfortable with my touching his paw yet. Anyone have good advice??

  • Do you think its okay to trim a kitten's claws at the age of 5 months? please reply! Thank you! :)

  • Your video was very self explanitory. You did a great job! You gave pointers. I liked your video. Your cat is very pertty. Keep up the great work. God bless you.

  • I have a question. I do hold the cat like in the video but I have had one of my cats try and pull away his paw while I was going to cut it, almost potentially pulling out his claw with the clippers; lucking I let go of the clippers to prevent the pull. How would you suggest preventing that happening? A firmer grip on the paw, so they can't pull away or being very quick about the cut?

  • nail clippers? fuck that i just use mah cigar cutter... its got a skull on it

  • Very helpful

  • I gave my cat roofies and then trimmed his nails.

  • where did you get the nail trimmers from and what brand? your trimmers work so well, a clean quick snip!

  • @SHEel8loco You can get the best nail clippers from PetSmart ($5).

  • @SHEel8loco I have similar trimmers at home. If you cut some sandpaper a bunch of times, with the nail trimmers, you can get them sharp again. So if you have existing trimmers, give that a try. I've done it and it's made them cut so much cleaner.

  • thank you.... it was very helpful ^_^

  • I wish our cat was this calm and nice but he totaly flips out whenever we take him to get his nails trimmed at the groomer

  • @BushidoMH hi, my cat has the same problem. try getting someone to help u by holding ur cat. or just go to petsmart and get them to do it. there is no appointment needed and it cost $10 (canadian) or $9 (american;us)

+ tax. hope i helped a bit!!! from Jamie Smith.

  • @BushidoMH My cat is naturally calm. She likes to be held close but not too lose. I put a blanket arround her and over her head because she sleeps under the covers and that helps her. She also likes if you pet her really slow haha

  • Thankyou!!

  • Great!!

  • @BushidoMH - there's a pheremone spray called Feliway that works like a dream. You don't (EVER!) spray it on the cat, but on, say, a towel you wrap the cat in, or a place where the cat is going to hang out on or near. After about 20-30 minutes, it really calms them down.

  • My cat is not having this lol

  • my cat is a demon from hell....u try to hold the paw and bam! ur dead

  • This video was very helpful. Could you also show how to brush their teeth, please? Thank you!

  • My cats do not mind having their feet touched. I can play with their toes for hours and they could care less. Get your cats young and get them used to being touched and they will never hurt you. My cats never bite or scratch or get angry.

  • Thanks so much! Very helpful video!

  • Thank you

  • TY because I just adopted a cat and she is so playful, moving and jumping everywhere including in my lap with those sharp claws.. Now I'm trying to find ways to clip them without her thinking its play time..She won't be steal at all.. :-/

  • my kitten was walking then when i was touch him ,he really SHOCK!! and scratches me until i got a blood at my hands!!! i almost crying..

  • I Put my cat on his back to cut them, unless he hyper then I give him a plastic Easter egg to play with for an hour.

  • LMFAO Yeah....With my Cat.?.hahahaha... I'll supply the Industrial first aid kit and the kevlar suit if anyone wants to try...

  • Hmm...I should trim my cat's nails sometime... they are becoming ridiculous long and sharp.

  • Where do you buy cat clippers that are rounded?? I have looked and I can't find them.

  • @msdavitt100 at your local petshop

  • i just cut my kitten nails while she were sleeping lol

  • that is one placid cat

  • thanks for the vid. i have a 1 year old exotic male cat who's the love of our lives. we take him to the pet store to have his nails cut. it's 6 euros every month so today my husband and i decided to buy a cat nail clipper. hope i can calm him down. better buy a pheromone collar as you say. he's really a dear, chubby cat just doesnt want to be bothered with his nails and ears. i just love your cat!

  • When I bought my cat the breeder advised me to clip the nails when he was sleeping. And that was a great advise. He loves when I touches his pawns and seems to enjoy when I clip the nails, he actually purrs.

  • My cat smacks me if i so much look in the direction where the Nailcliper/Scratchboard or may god forbid, the evil brush is-.-

  • @BushidoMH Work on getting your cats used to you touching their feet, maybe play with their toes a little during playtime and touch them while brushing them. You may also want to try a calming pheromone spray or collar to make trimming less stressful for your cats and help them get used to regular grooming.

  • @softpawsnailcaps I agree about the pheromone spray. I use this stuff called Feliway that works like a DREAM! You never (EVER!) spray it on the cat, but on something the cat hangs out on, or near, or a towel you're going to wrap him/her in. You spray it, wait 20-30 minutes, and they get much, much calmer.

  • @egosaurusrex Yes, Feliway is an excellent product for helping cats feel calmer during stressful events.

  • My cats a Douche

  • ok my kitten is new and i barly adopted him and he always run away from me and when he runs he stops all of a sudden and runs away...........is he scared or does he need time to know where he is

  • @dimend321 both

  • Hello, my cat has an ingrown claw on one of her forepaws. She's rather old, and I'm not sure how long it's been like that. She doesn't act like it's painful, but i'm worried that it might become infected.

I cant seem to remove the claw from the pawpad, and I'm too poor to take her to the vet. Even then, I dont own a car so I would have to walk miles in the middle of winter to take her to a vet.

Please help, what should I do?

  • Wow whT well behaved cat! My cat is not so calm for this.

  • You made it look so easy. Perhaps I can do this for my little Freddie Kruger!

  • You made it look so easy. Perhaps I can do this!

  • My two cats are calm when I trim their nails but my third cat it's like murder. She completely freaks. Someone suggested using a muzzle. The fact they can't see it calms them, but it kind of freaks ME out thinking about muzzling my cat for a nail clipping. Any thoughts on this? Will I psychologically traumatize her?

  • I've noticed that my cat has one nail spun like a snail shell.

Could you tell me please whether I should trim this nail in the same way.

Doesn't the quick grow longer in this case? Don't I risk cutting it ?

  • I have to pin my cat to the floor in order to do this, he's very much not down for the whole nail clipping procedure. Any tips on how to calm him?

  • @McCabe4201989 Have you tried using a cat friendly pheromone collar? The pheromones may help calm your cat and make it easier for you to hold him while you trim his claws.

  • @McCabe4201989 Shoot him

  • @McCabe4201989 hi, my cat pretty much thinks that when i touch or hold it's paws. It will die. It fears for its life. So what i started doing was, resting my hands on its paws while i groom him so he loses a bit of the tendency to freak out. It has helped! although not a remedy

  • You make it look so easy! your Cat is very tolerant!!!!! Our cats Hiss, bite and moan and sometimes growl at us. Theyre nails are very over grown and are starting to curl round into the bottom of the pouches, Is this a cause for concern?

  • Thank you Charlie ^^

  • Liked this video alot, thanks for the help!

  • Cant see a damn thing !! The camera person needs a lot of retraining,CANT SEE A THING !!

  • snip? my cat snips me :(. thats only when I try to clip her nails. Thanks for the tip though, I did not know how to place the clipper, I always tried them horizontal.

  • very useful, I managed to clip some of my cats claws, but they cannot sit still like this wonderfull cat in the video

  • thank you soooo much! I trimmed my cats nail for the first time !!

  • my cat almost take my eye off

  • Wow. It looks so much easier than I thought! Very helpful video. (:

  • Awesome video.... very helpful. Cat sitting my parents kitty at my house for 6 WEEKS... she's 20! Poor thing's hind claws are so long she can't retract them... so tomorrow I'm going to see if I can find a pair of clippers like that. Charlie is gorgeous....Thank you.

  • What!? My cat tried to attack me when I even try cutting his claws.

  • thank- you !! :)

  • man that cat is gorgeous !!! beautiful eyes!!!

  • Wow, thanks! I had no idea how to get the claw out.

  • Thanks for the tips!! This video was very helpful :) :)

  • @Rrgonz25 Glad we could help.

  • There is no medical need to clip claws, they fall off in those layers she was talking about and I always found the shed layers around the house. It wasn't until I bought a new couch and chairs that I started thinking about clipping the claws since they had already developed the habit over the years I had my parents' old furniture from the 80s and didn't care.

  • Wow, your cat really behaves. you said, "easily trim..." not for my Caribou. i have similar trimmers for him, but he fights it. I cant even hold him in a non-trimming session for more than 1/2 second. how do you get him to be so calm. Caribou ends up trying to bite the clippers, and wriggle his way out. he's how about 17 pounds so it's not easy. I just want him to be still like yours. how?

  • @okolo007 Try having somebody holding his upper body off the floor while you trim. Make sure his bottom stays on the floor since he is so large. That way you have control of the head and can deal with his claws.

  • My cats rip the shit out of me when I try clipping them do they ever get used to this?

  • @yumyumsashimi With regular grooming they may become used to the routine. You can always try a restraint bag if your cats are particularly aggressive or take your cats to a professional groomer.

  • My cats freakin hate having their claws done. I should do it more, really, but the scratches are only just healing...

  • like an onion!!!

  • What a good kitty :)

  • is it possible to use a nail file or emery board to trim the cats claws?

  • @BVargas78 there are pet specific nail files that will file your pets claws similar to an emery board but we wouldn't recommend using a nail file or emery board intended for humans on a pet.

  • good luck with trimming, I just trimmed my cat's claws and she's now hiding under the sheets and refuses to comeback and tries to bite chunks of flesh off my hands :(

  • i wish my Siamese was as mind-mannered as Charlie. If I attempt to even go near her with clippers she turns me into hamburger. I have to use a restraint bag, unfortunately.

  • @joiles01 I need a restraint bag!

  • Thank you for this video as my cat (12yrs old!) has very clear nails and very white fur (and long even on her paws!) and so is hard to see where to trim her nails. She has in-grown nails so we need to start keeping them trim as she gets stuck to things but we haven't done it before and so are a bit nervous. We saw our vet do it but needed a closer look at the paw and actual trim. THANK YOU!!!

    Sasha thanks you too!

  • @DuneAlia Great, hope the video helps both you and Sasha.

  • @softpawsnailcaps Just finished clipping her front claws a few minutes ago with no problem other than her claws were really hard (good trimmers!), 2 nails were frayed, and a few times she wanted down. :D Your video helped us know how far in to trim her nails. We were nervous about accidentally cutting into the Quick. Now we know it's much easier than it sounds.

THANK YOU!!! She is now happily scratching her mat without sticking and we are much more relieved.

  • @DuneAlia Wonderful! Glad the video helped =)

  • Very sweet cat.

  • I have aggressive cats and it's next to impossible they're on to me even with the treats, i cannot affordt to keep taking them to the vet to be trimmed, COULD YOU PLEASE SUGGEST SOMETHING FOR AGGRESSIVE CATS? The only one getting hurt is me ;-( I have same trimmers that's the only good part lol thank you Doctor.

  • well u can try jus holding there paws without holdin a nail trimmer and get them used to u touching there paws and i guess after a while they get used 2 it and eventualy wont mind u triming there nails !!

  • @rabz655

thanx but my cats are not regular cats i do that all the time I rub their feet and give them full body massages, but they see that clipper and it's the tiniest one they make they flyyyyyyyyyyyyy away from me i can't even get near them smart little dickens they are lollllllllllllll screammmmmmmmmmm hahaha

  • ohh haha wow lol

well sorry im not sure !!

maybe u should get tips from a vet or somthing

or all i can say is keep researching online

  • lol I have real smartie pants cats, they don't know they're cats and are extremely spoiled lollllllllllll thanxxxxxxxxxxxx so much HAPPY NEW YEAR DEAR

  • @cherstars you may want to look into getting a restraint bag. They're sacks for cats that allow you to have the cat restrained so you can administer medication, trim nails etc with relative ease.

  • @Cherstars try a scratch post trimming isn't a good idea anyway

  • thanks a lot

  • thank you for this very informative video. just had a question though-i have two cats that have a tendency to tear up my furniture and i was wondering if just trimming their nails would do the trick -or if you recomend using soft paws anyway. reason i ask is i'd have to buy more every three months since i have two cats and after awhile it'd add up. but you're the proffesional and i would really appreciate your advise. please help :)

  • You can try trimming alone and see if that cuts down on the damage made by your cats but Soft Paws is sure way to know that your furniture will be fully protected.

  • thank you very much, i appreciate the response :)

  • Thank you this is helpful. My little kitten is unruly. : ) Charlie is well behaved.

  • Very glad to hear that this video has been helpful!

  • Thank you so much for this good quality, very well done video. It does help a lot.

  • omg such a life saver lol i need to trim my kittens claws badly

  • Very helpful. Thank you!

  • Very helpful, thank you. Do you ever file them?

  • thank you!!
