Its not a question of whether or not people understand incorrect pronunciation and grammar. Everyone understands what "ax" means when used in that context. Just like it is completely clear when one says "I don't got any money with me". But it conveys unprofessionalism and that is what must change. It isn't to be better understood, but to be better respected.

The acceptance of ebonics as a form of speaking w/out being able to articulate proper English was a huge mistake to have aired to the public. The fall out has been that so many very young people haven't been encouraged to learn the proper way to spk English and now feel that is ok. However, most books, magizines, news articles, have conformed to a common english dialect that most higher paying jobs and higher education schools use today. To us British people, we notice that even White Americans pronounce our words very differently, "American English" also has structures that simply wouldn't make sense in Britain.
Example: Quite a lot of Americans use double negatives, like "I aint said nothing" which actually means the complete opposite of what they mean.
Obviously not all Americans speak like that, but barely anyone here uses double negatives.

It's not that big of a deal. If I can understand what someone is trying to say despite their accent or slang or bad pronunciation, then I don't mind so much.
But it is a sign of poor education and will lose people respect.
I know some people (mostly black) that speak in that uneducated-sounding way when they're amongst their 'homies' because that is their sub-cultural thing, but when they are in the wold at large, speak perfectly fine.

The acceptance of ebonics as a form of speaking w/out being able to articulate proper English was a huge mistake to have aired to the public. The fall out has been that so many very young people haven't been encouraged to learn the proper way to spk English and now feel that is ok. Also, ebonics is all their parents know so its been passed down. It is sad that the young kids in the vid spk with such poor pronunciation and grammar. I appreciate this teacher's work.

However, most books, magizines, news articles, have conformed to a common english dialect that most higher paying jobs and higher education schools use today. I'm not saying that use ax is wrong but its clearly not the proper way to speak when your trying to get the job you really want or getting kids into the colleges they want.

If you look at it more clearly, books, magizines, and other articles are the stones in which our language has been firmily set. Still language is not completely set in stone but its firmly set.

You said you know the proper way to pronounce ask is ask not ax, and that you just dont care. There is the problem. Black, white or any color...not caring is a disgrace

I don't care so what, why should I, there is only a language barrier if you use the words in the wrong place I don't go to work and start quoting "Snoop Dogg" songs. You people all of you on here made bad assumptions but fortunately for all of us I a bad @#! most of ya'll are just dumb @#!.

RE: "there is only a language barrier if you use the words in the wrong place". The word "ax" IS used in the wrong place for those who choose to speak like that. "AX" is a noun, not a verb. This isn't an assumption, it's a fact. BTW your last sentence is a very prejudice remark. ( another fact of which you probably don't care about )
