Doesn't anyone remember the old SAMSONITE commercials with the luggage slinging Gorilla? That depiction is not inaccurate! Why would anyone trust their $3500 guitar to ANY airline or freight company shipped in a cheap, $90 SKB type NON ATA APPROVED injection molded plastic case, and without adequate business insurance? I can't say I'm totally unsympathetic, but this probably could have been prevented. I hope you learned something.

A few years back when I flew to Chicago on United's now-defunct budget airline Ted (into O'Hare, funny enough), I got my suitcase from baggage claim just fine, but the classical guitar I brought with me was nowhere to be found. When I asked their baggage services about it, they tracked the guitar and found that it was in Albany! Credit where due, they did get it back to me one day later, NOT broken, thankfully.

Yup, when I was 18, I worked for the Post Office during the Christmas rush - the guys training me said to throw the FRAGILE packages with my left hand. Went on to an illustiious career with Sprint for 22 years doing mostly customer service. Then just retired after 7 years with the DMV. Hmmmm... maybe I can get on with the power company? :D

@kloran Hey there, I’ve receive many “why the Mexicans” questions and the answer is simple. The music and feel of the song reminded me of a combination of old Marty Robbins and early Elvis tunes. Since “Fun In Acapulco” is my favourite Elvis movie, and in it he had a mariachi back-up band, I thought it’d be funny to have a mariachi group in this video. Because I didn’t have a budget for full mariachi outfits I simply bought sombreros and moustaches and the Amigos were born.

Thanks for your inspirational video! In 2010 I wasn't scheduled to fly United on my way back from Australia after the flight was changed. I flew from Australia to New Zealand to LA. In Australia I bought stuff in the airport after going thru customs which meant I had another bag of shirts and some breakable souvenirs. I switched planes in NZ and had no problem with the extra plastic store bag. In LA United said I had too much and something had to go under (I had a laptop bag and a camera bag).

Delta broke my Martin guitar. I also witnessed my 12-string soar out of the belly of another Delta plane. While most baggage handlers are probably hard-working individuals who are a vital part of airline transportation I guess some are nothing more than luggage monkeys who are a little bitter that they have to drive miniature trains and crawl around on their knees all day. Of course, the airline customer service departments generally suck, too.

I think it's naive and downright silly to check in a musical instrument and expect it to be well cared for by the baggage handlers. In fact, it's more likely than not that some damage will happen, because it's a delicate thing made of wood and glued together. I wouldn't even check in a brass instrument, let alone a guitar or violin.
