  • never heard this tune. Thanks

  • To me thsi man was the epitomy of the Rockabilly sound a wwill never be bettered. RIP Carl... you were a legend then and always will be.

  • The reason Carl Perkins fell into Elvis' shadow was due to a car accident that sidelined Carl for a while. Almost messed up his guitar playing. Elvis recorded Blue Suede Shoes and the rest is history. These are facts that can be checked.

  • That stand up bass is pale blue.....

I just looked in my dictionary under; ' are you shitting me cool instruments', and there was a picture of this very same bass.

  • If Elvis was the King, Then Carl Perkin's was the Prince of rock!!

  • You may keep most of the Sunrecordings of Carl. Jive after Five, and all the covers of legendary Rockclassics on Columbia are the best we know from Carl!

  • the best add 10 stars!

  • pure rock en roll gets me back to the time the fiftys is a cuming back im on the first train exxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

  • great stuff by carl.thanks for posting

  • always loved this number..great piano too, sounds bit like chuck berrys pianist "johnnie johnson"..5*****

  • "Well, I mop the floors and wipe the counter,

Just work here, daddy--I'm not the founder..."

One of the great lines of all time.

I think my copy of this single--with the crappy yellow Columbia label from those days--shows this as the B-side. I seem to remember hearing "Pink Pedal Pushers" on American Bandstand a couple times.

  • Wouldn't it have been great to have seen this on AB???

  • It was all that stupid sax and piano that killed Carl's chances at Columbia from the very start. If somthing already works, then don't try to fix it. All you hear on all of his Columbia recordings is Saxaphone, piano and lots of eccho. What a waste of good talent. Carl should have stayed at Sun Records.

  • @moviemagg - i disagree. This is fine stuff! Good recording, great vocal, dig the piano, nice drums & fuzzy guitar. Recorded at Bradley Studios/Quonset Hut...where Gene Vincent & Blue Caps and Johnny Burnette Trio laid down the finest stuff of their careers! Owen B. and the A-list Nashville Cats were good company to be amongst. This track kind of reminds me of some classic Dale Hawkins recordings (Tornado, Yea-Yea (Class Cutter), Little Pig, Suzie-Q).

  • @moviemagg Have you forgotten that Jerry Lee Lewis played piano at Sun and elsewhere with no ill effects?

  • @moviemagg I heard the reason his carrer died is because he was supposed to be on Ed Sullivan but had a cold, so they clled Elvis to appear. And the rest is History.

  • This was Carl's debut single for Columbia which he and Johnny Cash joined the label even though Carl didn't have big hits he had only two that barely made it to the hot 100 Jive after Five & Pointed Toe Shoes. His recordings for Columbia weren't bad but it would 10 years before he would chart a record for them.

  • No Lead playing on this one..

  • A legendary Classic ! Add 10 stars!

  • Found this on a Rockabilly Collection several years ago. I play it more than anything else on the cd. Good stuff.
