  • Ragtime = / = Jazz

  • Ragtime is early jazz?

  • what a jaunty old tune

  • ragtime... not jazz...

  • goof @ :55 tho yall

  • @keesvanguilet127 thank you. Stole the word right from me. Cheers! :)

  • This is not jazz, it;s ragtime. Don't people know the difference anymore?

  • Is bad ! So bad..:/

  • Isn't jazz --'

  • gameboy music??

  • How to turn a Taskin copy into a typewriter. It is a shame so many real harpsichord players don't have access to such a good instrument, and this one is so badly misused. Funny though. Clap clap clap your hands :-)

  • more ragtime and stride than jazz.

  • this is the DRH at nottingham university!!!!!

  • lame as fuck

  • I can't even tell if he is playing the wrong notes or the harpsichord is broken lol

  • reminds me of an old fashioned carnival, or mario

  • That's not jazz.

  • dude, if you want to make a video , it would be good to learn the piece before you make it. Please!

  • about as jazzy as jay-z

  • thats jazz? i thought of wild wild west music XD you know in saloons a western

  • @yamiimax Saloon music is precursor jazz, most professionals consider it jazz. But I would sure as hell not call this guy professional.

  • @krndgify yeah its fail western music XD

  • Far too fast for ragtime. Ragtime should be played slowly, about 90 bpm.

And this isn't a very raggy rag at that.

  • @Karlfalcon For it to be original, it should be played at what the composer intended. For it to be interpreted, it should be played at what the player feels to be fit.

You can not assign a tempo to an entire genre.

  • @Zylstra555

When it comes to Ragtime yes, yes you can.

If you move much beyond 90-100 bpm you lose the dance rhythm of a proper rag. Contrary to popular belief, rags were not written to be flashy, showy pieces like so many uninformed pianists treat them as.

You want a citation to go with that? Scott Joplin himself said that rags should never be played fast - yet so many do in spite of this. It's the equivalent of rushing through Chopin's prelude in E minor in less than a minute.

  • I once had a record album called "Great Scott on the Harpsichord" . It was a collection of Joplin ragtime performed on the harpsichord.

Wish I could find another copy of it

  • Lol, You should play when people are playing Mario, and have them mute the Mario music.

  • it sounds better in a hapsichord than i though

  • this is Ragtime ^^

  • bahahaha ew

  • che bello

  • Ragtime is strictly speaking not jazz. And btw, your ragtime sucks donkey dick.

  • It is, however, the nearest ancestor in terms of piano music in african american tradition. the stride technique was applied in all subsequent african american genres (not so much in modern times). I must agree with you about this persons rag.

  • attempt ragtime

  • ragtime:>

  • come on people...is this jazz??

    fucking player...

  • I can only admire you for going ahead in an earthquake.

  • You barbaric piano players need to get it over with and hit the harpsichord HARDER!

  • HAHA COOl! We got an exactly like on in our '' Bodin Church '' ! :)

  • Yes it's a rag and really great fun! Harpsichords aren't all about boring old music. Benjamin Britten was really inspired by the way discords can sound really beautiful on the harpsichord and it's such fun to hear more than just Bach and the Baroque on these instruments. They were of course for the popular music of their day . . . just as they can be now. KEEP PLAYING! Have a look also at Jerzy Owczarz playing jazz on the harpsichord.

  • Thats because Baroque music was written for the "17th centry piano" or Harpsichord... The conventional piano was not invented until later. The playing of Bach, Valvadi, ect. on a conventional modern piano is NOT HISTORICAL and sounds out of place..

  • Yes - when a pianist comes to Hammerwood Park and wants to perform Bach on the piano I get them to try it on the harpsichord. If they then practice for a couple of days they say that they never want to play Bach on a piano ever again.

    Bach hated the piano.

  • You, my friend, are a lemonade! A pink lemonade! I send you to dracu!

  • sinner. jazz on a harpsichord. no!

  • very ugly music

  • As a contemporary harpsichordist myself I enjoyed this greatly. Just the stuff I'm working on :-) Good job

  • jazz on the rag

  • Music haters

  • This is the least-jazzy jazz I've ever heard. That amuses me. Rag indeed. It sounds like video game music.

  • you are playing a Rag
