So to clear it up this track originally came out in 1958 on the album Melody of Love (Moments To Remember- Vol. 2) by Enoch Light and a few other artists. This was then re-released in 1978 under the Best of Enoch Light.
@GreenKore And yes, I think nostalgia is very ironic because people mythologize the past to suit their wants in the present. You'll see Roger drinking to his generation and Betty still attached to her childhood when it doesn't do them any good. Don, for all his flaws, is the only one trying to escape his past.
@GreenKore No, I definitely agree with you there. I probably should've worded it better but what I meant by innocence is the way people are oblivious to the shifts in their time period. No one knows that they're in a cultural revolution or a golden age or whatever. It's only after that period pasts that we can go about and label it and see what/who has fallen and what/who is standing. The world spins everyday and we ignore that.
If the fans are correct and Mad Men does end with Draper falling out of the building (or imagining himself) like in the opening credits, this is the song I want to hear. Of course, they'd have to edit the song and everything but I think it'd capture the transition of the 60's into a new age perfectly. With the loss of innocence and old nostalgic values.
@Joshumitsu I think one of the major points of the series is that the time period it depicts wasn't innocent or contained any more values than today. The series is about lies, facades, and twisting the truth into something beautiful. Nostalgia is another kind of lie, one so intricate that it becomes beautiful in and of itself.
That's my interpretation of most of the series, anyway.
This is not done by Enoch light-He left Command records in 1965 .His last lp was RS887-Magnificent Movie themes..This song came out on RS895-Persuasive percussion 1966.He also sold his Command label in 1965,and started his new label- Project 3 in 1966
@Backlap46 This is done by two people who took over the Command label-Their names are Loren Becker and Robert ByrneThey now run the label since Enoch Light left
@Alistairville Thanks! I guess I should have made my question a little more specific - meaning which Enoch Light group etc but now I have found that this was originally released in 1966. The album was "Persuasive Percussion 1966" (Command RS 895 SD, 1966). Lovely recording - thanks for posting it.
Thank you M. Joseph Kosma, and before him,M. Tchaikovsky himself ! :o)

Never mind, I lied. Don doesn't want to escape his past. He wants to relive it as Dick Whitman.

@Backlap46 That's not accurate, the Persuasive Percussion album version is found here - watch?v=abxf-9GeYl8 and it is NOT the same at all.
This version is by Enoch Light, but I'm not sure the album. It's been found on a 'Enoch Light Greatest Hits' album
