I love all of these cars, and have nothing but respect for Tiff, but having owned half or driven half of these cars, they HATE to do these dumb, somewhat ugly 4 wheel drifts. What makes them wonderful and impressive is how much grip and stability they have, not how fun they are to to attempt to drift in.

@coldinfusion it does but u gotta remenber that they where more then one version of the attesa awd system one that was completly against sliding which was the one the in normal conditions kept it self fwd n on conditions when ur car was slipping it distributed 50% of its torque to the rear making it almost impossible to slide, the attesa system on this one favors rwd and awd on normal conditions is rwd and in corners it went full awd thats y he says the car starts off rwd into the turn

@coldinfusion not really. the attesa ets isn't going against drifting. its..pretty much one of the easiest to drift when it comes to awd system :)

if the computer senses the rear end sliding out the computer send torque to the front wheels to stop the car from sliding it gains its traction back

BUT NOTE its not impossible to drift with it

still thats why you never see any drift GTR's

4 wheel drive is usually for off-road trucks. The computer communicates with the wheels to see which needs more power, less power etc... And you can turn it on and off.

In AWD all the wheels move at equal power (i think) but you cant turn it on or off. Its always on.

@JJIJR AWD and 4WD vary from car to car. your right about 4WD bein more off road orientated, 4WD isn't always switchable but can be. The 3 cars here (evo, skyline and porsche) all done computers but essentially permanent 4WD. AWD's special because it doesn't use a transfer box and subaru's in particular is even more special as it's symmetrical. Power delivered to each wheel in both systems is down to diff load with cars like the evo using computers to help where the impreza doesn't.

@stityper Some limited models of the classic impreza (22b, type r and ra) came with a selectable torque split (varied from 50/50 to 70/30 F/R) all new sti's come with an automatic version of this and electronic controls similar to that of the evo. The p1 here is just a standard 50/50 split using a viscous centre diff. Easy spotted with the understeer it suffers with no front LSD and no computer to help like the evo. The only differences are, transfer box and possible switch in the 4WD

@Erdenebat21 Actually, Tiff Needell was one of Top Gear's presenters until 2001. In that year, BBC has cancelled the show so Tiff created Fifth Gear. In 2002 Top Gear came back, but Tiff sticked to his project. You can see more details in wikipedia.
