This is the game that started the greatest period for American wrestling games. This, WCW World Tour, WCW Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania, and WWF No Mercy still cannot be touched. Even Fire Pro cannot equal them.
@CombatSportFan This game was a port of Virtual Pro Wrestling, that much is true. World Tour could be considered the American counterpart to VPW64. Not sure if I'd call Revenge a port as much as it is the successor to World Tour.
This game was so much better than Nitro and Thunder. Underrated game imo. I remember markin out like a lil bitch when i hit a sitdown powerbomb. I was only 8 when i played it though lol
I loved the fact that you could create your own championship belts and defend them and the game actually kept a title history. I thought that was so cool back in the day. This game got a lot of use until WCW/NWO World Tour was released for the 64. World Tour was so revolutionary for me at the time. I played the crap out of the game.
@GoongalaGoongala Yeah i also loved that fact the first time i played it because i was so amazed that they had that option in 1997 because i thought that idea started in smackdown vs raw and wcw/nwo world tour was an excellent game.
@trosber2 I was always curious as to what attires they made for "Sting", considering, both WCW vs. the World & WCW vs. nWo: World Tour were released before Starrcade '97, Sting's first match as "The Crow" gimmick.
WTF. Back in the day my friend had this and we used to play for hours and I thought it was so cool. I had n64 and there wasnt a WCW game YET (there was a while later).... But I remember this game being so cool, now looking at this vid its like WTF it looks like a piece of crap.
@thedawn090 The guy with the face paint was called Bad Blood and was The Great Muta. A lot of the roster in the game was made up of actual Japanese talent with their names changed.
Gosh, I loved this game back in the day. In my opinion, the best wrestling game ever. Back when I played this I didn't know the meaning behind the "Spirit" meter. Now I know all about Japanese "fighting spirit" and all that. Was this a port of an existing Japanese game?
imo this was the best actual wrestling games ever made by thq only thing that held this from being perfect were no tag team every thing was singles and the normal punches and kicks other than that u could get any better than this all of follow ups to this only beat this game by graphics nwo world tour could have had it but it sacrificed the move sets and depth with graphics imo only graphics held this game back the moves were crazy in this game
@ratnick those people were actual real wrestlers from other organizations with name edits it would be like fire pro wrestling making wrestlers and editing the names

@CombatSportFan Considering Fire Pro isn't American...
Fehnrique 2 months ago
@Fehnrique There were Fire Pro Games ported to the US which is exactly what the first three WCW THQ games were; ports of Japanese games.

The music during the match sounds like Ryu's stage theme in SFII. Thumbs up if you agree!
