Today, Callahan braggadociosly mentioned the development of NU's recent QBs (including passing records). He failed to mention the fact that his team's fail to run the ball well or play great defense against college football heavyweights (USC, OU, etc.). Maybe if he had his team's priorities in order, he would have beaten a team ranked higher than #20 by now.

Did you see thoughs hard hits in that video? This video showed life in the team, something this year's team lacks and that is the only reason we suck. We have lost all momentum and have no motivation. I agree that it is the coaches fault, not because of play calling issues(besides cosgrove but i consider him irrelavant to the team), but because they are not motivating these kids. They need to intigrate tradition and tell these kids the season is not over.

Where's Bo Pelini when NU needs him? Back in 2003, he took our 55th ranked defense to 11th in 1 short year. He did that by making great pre-game & in-game adjustments. Just imagine if Steve Pederson knew what he was doing, & had hired Pelini as the Head Coach. Maybe they should have given us fans what we wanted (Pelini), instead of giving us the "big name" coach that they thought we needed. Those involved in that decision-making process are incompetent & the current results are unacceptable.
It's all really sad how far this program has fallen. Decades of self pride and attitude, now it's all just going through the motions. When the soul of the program was stripped, this is the end result.
I'm sure there are some good coaches on this staff, but as a whole, losing seems acceptable. No real investment or sacrifice for the program just a paycheck at the end of the day, and this attitude rubs off on the players. You have to truly love something before you want to fight for it.
Nebraska has the talent, but the coaches w/ their 15lb. playbook of confusion keeps the good players from seeing the field. If this team used the defensive schemes on playstation, they would dominate.
Anyone who follows NU's recruiting should recognize that the coaches are holding these players back from reaching their true potential. They're underachieving. Recruiting good players is only half of the equation. It's Callahan's responsibility to command group cohesion, instead of merely focusing on the X's & O's of the game. These embarrassing results prove that he lacks emotional intelligence & essential leadership skills.

Everyone knew changing so much would take time but 5 years is too much. Never have they been ranked higher than 14 in his 5 years at Nebraska.
All i can say about how horrible of a coach callahan is, is look at alabama took him less than a year to turn that team around into a decent team. We played the best team in the country, put up 31 points on them, and had our chances to win the game. We needed to get some breaks, we didn't get them. Our defense looked inept all night, that is true. Offensively, Callahan gave us a chance to win. By the end of the year, 31 points on USC's defense is going to look pretty damn impressive.
(HoldregeDusters & astrostock) - Callahan is responsible for the entire team's performance. Quit acting like he's just an offensive coordinator. Even if he was, 31 yards rushing is never going to beat great teams. Plus, he lacks leadership skills (listen to the Tim Brown interview).
Everytime he goes up against any good team (top 10), they shut our running game down consistently. Bottom line: the team with more yards rushing, who plays solid D usually wins...just like NU used to. It's called critical thinking. If you read my comments below, I agree, our defense is terrible. What I am saying is that they do what every other team in the country does, and that is rotate defenders to keep them fresh. When you have the top recruiting class 3 years in a row, there is just a less noticeable drop. We aren't better than them, but if the ball bounces our way on a couple key plays, it's a one score game. Even with those monster holes.

Go back and watch the tape. Booty is in on their second to last drive. Their defense was playing more conservatively, yes, but they still had quite a few starters in. They had been rotating guys because of their ridiculous depth all game long, the 4th was no different. Carroll wanted style points after what happened with LSU and VT. But since you're much smarter than me, I'm sure you knew that.

I know Cally doesn't mess with the D, but Saturday night he called them out after the game. Callahan isn't the problem, Coz is and I think he sees that now.

I don't think the offense has been underachieving. I think putting up 31, or even 24 points on USC this year is a good accomplishment. The defense, I agree, is a huge problem, and I realize Callahan hires Coz and his loyalty to his buddy is a huge problem. But when Coz makes comments like "We don't need to make adjustments, we just have to play better", it makes me want to vomit

Today, Callahan braggadociosly mentioned the development of NU's recent QBs (including passing records). He failed to mention the fact that his team's fail to run the ball well or play great defense against college football heavyweights (USC, OU, etc.). Maybe if he had his team's priorities in order, he would have beaten a team ranked higher than #20 by now.

Its obvious there has to be a coaching change, and second the players are just as responsible for the losing as for the coaches because coaches don't give up 216 yards in rushing in the fourth quarter or give up 76 points, players do.

Did you see thoughs hard hits in that video? This video showed life in the team, something this year's team lacks and that is the only reason we suck. We have lost all momentum and have no motivation. I agree that it is the coaches fault, not because of play calling issues(besides cosgrove but i consider him irrelavant to the team), but because they are not motivating these kids. They need to intigrate tradition and tell these kids the season is not over.

Where's Bo Pelini when NU needs him? Back in 2003, he took our 55th ranked defense to 11th in 1 short year. He did that by making great pre-game & in-game adjustments. Just imagine if Steve Pederson knew what he was doing, & had hired Pelini as the Head Coach. Maybe they should have given us fans what we wanted (Pelini), instead of giving us the "big name" coach that they thought we needed. Those involved in that decision-making process are incompetent & the current results are unacceptable.

I'm sure there are some good coaches on this staff, but as a whole, losing seems acceptable. No real investment or sacrifice for the program just a paycheck at the end of the day, and this attitude rubs off on the players. You have to truly love something before you want to fight for it.

Anyone who follows NU's recruiting should recognize that the coaches are holding these players back from reaching their true potential. They're underachieving. Recruiting good players is only half of the equation. It's Callahan's responsibility to command group cohesion, instead of merely focusing on the X's & O's of the game. I loved Nebraska's option attack that is part of the reason why i don't like Callahan. but anyone with half a brain can understand that Callahan has had his time they gave him 5 years to build a team. Everyone knew changing so much would take time but 5 years is too much. Never have they been ranked higher than 14 in his 5 years at Nebraska.

What did I type that was so incomprehensible to you? Callahan is a good coach. Cosgrove has not proved he can lead a championship caliber defense. We played the best team in the country, put up 31 points on them, and had our chances to win the game. We needed to get some breaks, we didn't get them. Our defense looked inept all night, that is true. Offensively, Callahan gave us a chance to win. By the end of the year, 31 points on USC's defense is going to look pretty damn impressive.

Everytime he goes up against any good team (top 10), they shut our running game down consistently. Bottom line: the team with more yards rushing, who plays solid D usually wins...just like NU used to. It's called critical thinking. If Callahan doesn't do it, I'll admit there's a problem with him, otherwise, my beef is still with Coz and firing him midseason is not the answer. Brown's interview was not BS. He acknowledged occurrences & facts that can be confirmed by many Raiders players. You have to believe that, unless you think that "everyone" on that Super Bowl team is conspiring against him...and if they are, what does that say about Callahan? If you read my comments below, I agree, our defense is terrible. What I am saying is that they do what every other team in the country does, and that is rotate defenders to keep them fresh. When you have the top recruiting class 3 years in a row, there is just a less noticeable drop. We aren't better than them, but if the ball bounces our way on a couple key plays, it's a one score game. Even with those monster holes.

Go back and watch the tape. Booty is in on their second to last drive. Their defense was playing more conservatively, yes, but they still had quite a few starters in. They had been rotating guys because of their ridiculous depth all game long, the 4th was no different. Carroll wanted style points after what happened with LSU and VT. But since you're much smarter than me, I'm sure you knew that.

Callahan needs to ditch Coz, but doing it MIDSEASON is not a good idea and would kill team chemistry. Coz bought himself another year with his games against OU and Auburn but unless he pitches a few shutouts and we beat UT and Mizzou, he's gone after this year. I know Cally doesn't mess with the D, but Saturday night he called them out after the game. Callahan isn't the problem, Coz is and I think he sees that now.

Great coaching levels the playing field in tough games like that. With Callahan, we have been underachieving in every big game (against top 10 teams). What more evidence do you want?

The defense, I agree, is a huge problem, and I realize Callahan hires Coz and his loyalty to his buddy is a huge problem. i guess nebraska just has old tapes of tom osborne teams running the wishbone with qb frazier and getting the national championship trophy. but all the colleges want pro offense sets, so nebraska followed the herd like lost sheep and do a pro offense set up and ditch the wishbone, because the wishbone is outdated. guess what where the hell is nebraska ranked before/ after they ditched the wishbone. 1st with the wishbone, last without the wishbone.

Tonight's game should serve as empirical evidence that Steve Pederson, Bill Callahan, & Kevin Cosgrove are a pathetic combination. To the the athletic director & coaches: "Step up & get the job done, or get the F*** out!!"

One of the biggest and best weight rooms in America, but do any of these players use it? It's freaking embarrassing watching them get manhandled. Here's a tip, when you find yourself laying on your back in a game, maybe it's time to start seriously thinking about pumpimg iron instead of hanging out in the bars. How in the hell can you spend 4 to 5yrs in a program and not gain an ounce of muscle?

usc is overrated but i agree that there gonna win. Lsu is gonna win the title. and untill they finally realize that callahan is a loser coach i dont think nebraska will be a national championship contender

I am a die hard Husker fan. But the realization is that USC is a better football team. We gave up to many yards to Wake Forest. A good team in there own right, But I just Don't think we have the talent yet to beat USC maybe someday not now. 31-14 Usc sorry guys i love nebraska but it not going to be pretty

one word to destroy the trojans, show them something that they have never seen from a school that was the best in the nation at it at one time, line up in the "wishbone", they will be totally and completely confused. they are not prepared for that. lol lol

YOU'RE ONLY YOUNG ONCE, IT'S TIME TO PUT UP OR SHUTUP. THIS TEAM NEEDS TO DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE LIKE THE PETERBILTS AND THE WISTROMS OF THE WORLD or it won't even be close come Sept. 15 against the drama queens from SoCal.

Nebraska got a good win against Wake Forest on 09/08/07. So, now bring on the Trojans. I think Nebraska can win, but they will have to play a lot better than they did against Wake Forest.
