Playing Guitar Hero is fun. Playing Guitar is more fun. Playing Guitar is more difficult. Playing that blistering Buckethead song, or shredtacular Van Halen song is far easier on Guitar Hero, but it's far more rewarding and awesome on real guitar. I'd prefer Guitar any day, but that doesn't mean Guitar Hero isn't fun. Besides, it's a buff: If someones better than you at Guitar, you can say you're better at GH, and Vise-Versa, so you feel less shitty for having some 10 year old Asian Pwn you.

There are some pretty good modern bands out there today. Wolfmother, Rage Against the Machine, The Black Crowes. Those guys are pretty good. You can't just turn on the radio and say that modern rock sucks.

I like guitar hero, just because I play guitar hero that doesn't mean I can't play an instrument. in fact I'm learning to play bass and hopefully be in a metal band. but guitar hero is just for fun. it's not taken as a real instrument. just like zakk wylde said "it makes kids wanna become a real guitarast".

Music today lacks heart and soul. It's mostly pop sluts, nigger rap, and dime a dozen rock bands who no one will remember 10 years from now. It's all about record labels finding someone with a catchy tune and seeing how much they can cash in on them before people get tired of them.
As for Guitar Hero, it's just a game. I play drums IRL but I still enjoy whipping out the plastic guitar from time to time. Only the Harmonix ones are good though. 3+ are shit with shit music to sell lots of copies.

I think that most teens these days looked back at all the classic bands and saw their legions of fan/groupies/fanupies and want to do what they did. so they turn on the tv and start idolizing a band, just to idolize it and claim it as their own, regardless of talent. Snowballing us into a looks=Music=fans=money.
I think some teens nail teenage fans of 60s and 70s bands. At least that's what happened to me sometimes, those insults coming from fans who liked Chingy and pop-punk (better known as pop-puke) bands. Sadly enough, most people can't get past the appearance of an artist. I'd take a crusty-looking guy that CAN sing over a good-looking chick that can't and should be a model. If you like the appearance of somebody, read a modeling magazine. And don't equate good looks with great singing.
Guitar Hero is crap. I'm a guitarist (I have a Fender Lead I and play like David Gilmour and Mike Rutherford (Genesis guitarist/bass player)), a drummer and keyboard player. I absolutely suck at Guitar Hero/Rock Band. It's an insult to real musicians. I don't think Genesis would be on either of those games as their music was keyboard orientated (old school synthesizers and so forth).

I agree, most people forget that almost every trick on the guitar was INVENTED by JIMI HENDRIX. they say that these new bands are amazing, and the old stuff can never compare, but you take away the techniques that the guys in the 60's, and 70's created, and that music will be shittiest crap ever made.
I used to play GH a lot. Eventually I got to the point where I wanted to be able to play what I was hearing and make my own songs. I started playing a real guitar and I hardly ever play GH any more. What does bother me about GH is all the d-bags who think they're better than the actual artists.
Of course most music today sucks..but honestly, that's been the case for about a hundred years now (I mean, seriously, how much skill do you think rock took back in the '50's? or disco in the 70's?). Granted, this depends largely on what genre you're in; but the point is that hope is far from lost here. You just need to know where to look (i.e., not mainstream radio and certainly not MTV, though they will occasionally show a good band or two)
Music isn't just about playing mind you, it's for listening to. My 12 year old sister who is two years younger than me hated when I play Heartbreaker by Zeppelin full blast on my guitar because she wasn't used to it. Guitar Hero slowly introduced her to bands like The Stooges, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, just to name a few. But other than that I have to agree with you.

That has happened to every single genre at least in western culture. If you are great, You'l get ripped off sooner or later. But believe me there is still a lot of good music being made out there today.you might not find it on youtube but may be at a local bar.

All these new bands sound the exact same and the exact same vocal and guitar sound. I know people can say that about any era of rock but at least in the 80s and 70s rock had balls. All rock bands sing about these days is girls who broke up with them or who they fancy but have boyfriends already. Its fucking pathetic, unoriginal, bland shite!

All these new artists like Kesha and Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers (surprising that Disney has'nt euthenized them yet, huh?) ARE TERIBLE. They focus on the mundane. Simple love songs and being an all around slut. Id much rather have Jeth Mangum and so many other artist's like him dominate the popular music scene, because they make music out of an absolute love for what they do and feelings such as sadness, happiness, anger REAL LOVE and not infatuation (John Darnielle is a geniusfor that)

There are some pretty good modern bands out there today. Wolfmother, Rage Against the Machine, The Black Crowes. Those guys are pretty good. You can't just turn on the radio and say that modern rock sucks.

Music today lacks heart and soul. It's mostly pop sluts, nigger rap, and dime a dozen rock bands who no one will remember 10 years from now. It's all about record labels finding someone with a catchy tune and seeing how much they can cash in on them before people get tired of them.
As for Guitar Hero, it's just a game. I play drums IRL but I still enjoy whipping out the plastic guitar from time to time. Only the Harmonix ones are good though. 3+ are shit with shit music to sell lots of copies.

I think some teens nail teenage fans of 60s and 70s bands. At least that's what happened to me sometimes, those insults coming from fans who liked Chingy and pop-punk (better known as pop-puke) bands. Sadly enough, most people can't get past the appearance of an artist. I'd take a crusty-looking guy that CAN sing over a good-looking chick that can't and should be a model. If you like the appearance of somebody, read a modeling magazine. And don't equate good looks with great singing.

Guitar Hero is crap. I'm a guitarist (I have a Fender Lead I and play like David Gilmour and Mike Rutherford (Genesis guitarist/bass player)), a drummer and keyboard player. I absolutely suck at Guitar Hero/Rock Band. It's an insult to real musicians. I don't think Genesis would be on either of those games as their music was keyboard orientated (old school synthesizers and so forth).

I used to play GH a lot. Eventually I got to the point where I wanted to be able to play what I was hearing and make my own songs. I started playing a real guitar and I hardly ever play GH any more. What does bother me about GH is all the d-bags who think they're better than the actual artists.

Of course most music today sucks..but honestly, that's been the case for about a hundred years now (I mean, seriously, how much skill do you think rock took back in the '50's? or disco in the 70's?). Granted, this depends largely on what genre you're in; but the point is that hope is far from lost here. You just need to know where to look (i.e., not mainstream radio and certainly not MTV, though they will occasionally show a good band or two)

My 12 year old sister who is two years younger than me hated when I play Heartbreaker by Zeppelin full blast on my guitar because she wasn't used to it. Guitar Hero slowly introduced her to bands like The Stooges, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, just to name a few. But other than that I have to agree with you.

Whenever someone makes great music and gets popular recognition, somone will steal the essense and leave the soul behind to make money out of it. That has happened to every single genre at least in western culture. If you are great, You'l get ripped off sooner or later. All these new bands sound the exact same and the exact same vocal and guitar sound. I know people can say that about any era of rock but at least in the 80s and 70s rock had balls.
