Wonderful song, Wonderful singer/songwriter, Wonderful tho difficult (so I read?) man. Simply Wonderful. An I hear the're naming a street in Paisley after this Wonderful man, truly deserved an I'm sure he would be delighted about it. You deserve it Gerry you were WONDERFUL. XXXX
@aussietv2 That's what I thought until I listened to it again the other day : there was a family-based tribute on TV the other day and this is one that was sung. Possibly aimed at former band member(s), though restyled to be enigmatic & open to interpretation ....
Listened to this guy for all those years......some of his songs, such as this one, produce an almost unbearable longing for the times and memories I've long associated them with. An artist that produced some truly beautiful and elegant music. THANKS!
I remember in 1980 that I bought the album *Night Owl* for only 100 BEF (2 £/2.50€)over here! In fact ...I was not happy at all it was so cheap ... being such a class A album!! It was certainly the year that I have listened to the album the most during my musical obsessions back then... Since 1980 I have bought almost everything from Gerry solo. He is still guiding me (and will be) through fantastic musical moments and memories.
This has always been my favorite Gerry Rafferty song and I still get chills when I crank it up loud. Such an amazing songwriter and singer. No one else ever sounded quite like him. RIP Gerry, your music lives on.
One of my all-time favourites. In the days of recording tapes to play in the car, I put this right on the start of a compilation I called 21 Golden Uplifters. How you can fail to feel better after hearing this song is a mystery to me! The bloke was a genius.
Gerry you are the man, your voice will never be matched and your songs are so relaxing and brighten up my day like no other you will be missed till the end of time you are a legend in my eyes.
No one else sung, or sings now, as effortless as the late and great Gerry Rafferty. We will never have a unique voice like that to enjoy ever again. Legend taken way too young. God rest your soul Gerry. RIP
Gerry didn't have great range with his voice but it has that soothing quality that makes him special. Whenever you heard his music you knew right away it was him.
Billy Connelly once played in his band but admitted Gerry had too much talent for Billy to keep up with....he tried to help Gerry into rehab in 2010 but Gerry took off instead, guess he was still a troubled lad...it's sad when they can't beat the devil inside them. His music will be here forever.
My mate Andy McGinn fae bonny Dundee told me to listen to this song, and I have to agree this is one of the late Gerry's best songs, well written and easy listening..
all Gerrys music great, i quite often cry listening to his music but i an oldie and know the meaning of GREAT music. And to the person that nicked my night owl CD no sweat enjoy it, i got double CD for mums day. RIP Gerry you are missed but never forgotten.

funny how you forget just how great these songs were, yes children we were spoiled back then and didn,t know it because quality writing was standard to get a deal in those days!
Superb song from a special songwriter. Only good vibes from everyone I know who mentions Gerry R in NZ. Yes his songs got all the way around the globe, and helped people come to terms to some extent with life (well in my case anyway). Thanks Man. Love your songs. RIP!
A great song... But more great; I actually see Gerry with a smile on his face in this video!! I realize now, I never saw him smile on a video, but it gives me a kind of happy feeling to see him smile, actually at the beginning and at the end of the video... To know that allthough he had to suffer a huge lot by life, but that it seems like there are also moments he could enjoy it...
If you watch Skytrax1's posting of "Get it Right Next Time," you can see Gerry smile at the very beginning of the video, and also see/hear him laugh ~ it's great!
He made such wonderful music...so sorry and sad that he is gone....gone but NEVER forgotten.
Thanks so much for posting this. Gerry's live performances are so darn rare, it's a treat to get to view any of his live performances, even these studio recording sessions. Gerry was such an incredible music talent, more so than most people realize. He was a music genius and had an incredible voice. Betsy Cook was indeed the sweet angel singing back up and playing the Hammond, though I'm not certain she played it for the actual recording. She stole the video. All of the gang did a fantastic job......would I have given anything to be there!?
@radxone Betsy Cooke did sing and play on the actual recording and in fact this video shows much of the ACTUAL recording as it took place along with some of the mixing session.
a genius arranger-the soft guitar licks and the wonderful soft organ licks by betsy-and what a voice she has--still gerry puts it all together-his genius and gentleness --one of a kind musician and entertainer--i listen to it again and again and again--and watch the video also--
Betsy Cook released a 1992 album with the interesting title, The Girl Who Ate Herself. I picked up a copy from Amazon UK. There are some great tracks including, "Diving", "Docklands", & "Love is the Groove". Her talents were certainly an excellent addition to Gerry's "Days Gone Down". Thanks for posting this video.
