  • Gerry Rafferty was the very best. Miss him.

  • Onions....of happiness

  • so long ago but it feels like yesterday.....i miss the 70's

  • Splendid! They don't make them this fine anymore

  • Que gran cantante!!!

  • Does anyone now who he wrote this song for ?

  • @RichardHell1959 Probably his wife.

  • @aussietv2 That's what I thought until I listened to it again the other day : there was a family-based tribute on TV the other day and this is one that was sung. Possibly aimed at former band member(s), though restyled to be enigmatic & open to interpretation ....

  • my ghi;dh00d love you dude

  • The musician credits are wrong, the organist isnt Pete Wingfield, unless he had a sex change!

  • one of my best.

  • love this song great artist, i never get bored listening to gerry.

  • excellent song writer and artist sad how powerful alcohol is. Really sad

  • Listened to this guy for all those years......some of his songs, such as this one, produce an almost unbearable longing for the times and memories I've long associated them with. An artist that produced some truly beautiful and elegant music. THANKS!

  • @MetalGuruMessiah hi any dvd of gerry singing,,?? engish fan,ta,,

  • 1 of the greatest & most infra-valuated musicians on history...

1 de los más grandes e infra-valorados músicos de la historia...

  • Fantastic song, fantastic talent ! Will live forever ! God Bless Gerry !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember in 1980 that I bought the album *Night Owl* for only 100 BEF (2 £/2.50€)over here! In fact ...I was not happy at all it was so cheap ... being such a class A album!! It was certainly the year that I have listened to the album the most during my musical obsessions back then... Since 1980 I have bought almost everything from Gerry solo. He is still guiding me (and will be) through fantastic musical moments and memories.

  • Love love this song!! I just feel like I am right there in this video!!!!

  • Man I miss that guy!!

  • @theoriginalchieftain Me too, it hurts listening to him. XX

  • is it just me or does he sound like John Lennon?

  • @Quintus707, Maybe a little John Lennon, but it's still the melody and gives of his personality .. :)

  • @Quintus707 Totally different and Scottish! No, just he seems a bit like John Lennon in 1979 and certainly the same originality ;-)

  • Shine a light on the Days Gone Down!! Great song from a great artist. Betsey Cook on keyboards. Nice!

  • Wonderful video!! Takes me back to the day. Gerry was one of a kind and they dont make em like this anymore!! RIP Gerry

  • This has always been my favorite Gerry Rafferty song and I still get chills when I crank it up loud. Such an amazing songwriter and singer. No one else ever sounded quite like him. RIP Gerry, your music lives on.

  • RIP. We miss you. Thank you for the music.

  • Is it because I'm HIGH or is this is one of THE BEST SONGS EVER!!!!

  • @sim8213 You're high and it's the best song ever!:)

  • One of my all-time favourites. In the days of recording tapes to play in the car, I put this right on the start of a compilation I called 21 Golden Uplifters. How you can fail to feel better after hearing this song is a mystery to me! The bloke was a genius.

  • For you Jackie.

  • 50/50 all the way!

  • 50/50

  • Gerry you are the man, your voice will never be matched and your songs are so relaxing and brighten up my day like no other you will be missed till the end of time you are a legend in my eyes.

  • His influences were the Beatles, but he was a far better songwriter and vocal talent than any of them.

  • what a song

  • Man this song has a great 70's feel to it. Beautiful

  • Gerry RIP

  • Thanks for posting, great song and even better musician. RIP Jerry you are and will be missed for many years to come.

  • Tinhamper, it IS too bad he couldn't beat the devil in his own life. But he outsmarted the devil by leaving behind such wonderful, immortal music!

  • Thanks for the music my friend :}

  • Rest in peace Gerry, your music will live on forever.

  • runnin on the beach

  • No one else sung, or sings now, as effortless as the late and great Gerry Rafferty. We will never have a unique voice like that to enjoy ever again. Legend taken way too young. God rest your soul Gerry. RIP

  • I had 4got about this song & even though it's an uplifting tune it still brought tears 2 my eyes! An awesome singer he was!!!

  • we lost one when we lost him!

  • Gerry sang like an angel !

  • she is a babe....or was...

  • she is a babe....or was...

  • Gerry didn't have great range with his voice but it has that soothing quality that makes him special. Whenever you heard his music you knew right away it was him.

Billy Connelly once played in his band but admitted Gerry had too much talent for Billy to keep up with....he tried to help Gerry into rehab in 2010 but Gerry took off instead, guess he was still a troubled lad...it's sad when they can't beat the devil inside them. His music will be here forever.

  • My mate Andy McGinn fae bonny Dundee told me to listen to this song, and I have to agree this is one of the late Gerry's best songs, well written and easy listening..

  • ABSOLUTLEY AWESOME.

  • Godspeed Gerry, you'll never be forgotten by those who you touched with your music, my beautiful friend.

  • You see? You hear ? The joy of making wonderful music !

THE JOY OF LIFE RADIATES FROM THIS VIDEO !

  • Whe i first heard this i thought it was love song...but im sure its about Joe Egan....so i guess it is in a way

    Jim

  • Betsy Cook....she has or had a music career of her own. Listen to "Love is the Groove" on the tube. I agree...she is an angel

  • Superb song from a special songwriter. Only good vibes from everyone I know who mentions Gerry R in NZ. Yes his songs got all the way around the globe, and helped people come to terms to some extent with life (well in my case anyway). Thanks Man. Love your songs. RIP!

  • A great song... But more great; I actually see Gerry with a smile on his face in this video!! I realize now, I never saw him smile on a video, but it gives me a kind of happy feeling to see him smile, actually at the beginning and at the end of the video... To know that allthough he had to suffer a huge lot by life, but that it seems like there are also moments he could enjoy it...

  • @Musicsmoke

Just seeing him smile makes ME smile!

If you watch Skytrax1's posting of "Get it Right Next Time," you can see Gerry smile at the very beginning of the video, and also see/hear him laugh ~ it's great!

He made such wonderful music...so sorry and sad that he is gone....gone but NEVER forgotten.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Gerry's live performances are so darn rare, it's a treat to get to view any of his live performances, even these studio recording sessions. Gerry was such an incredible music talent, more so than most people realize. He was a music genius and had an incredible voice. He had such a special way of singing and projecting a song that really hit your heart. I have so many special memories that come back to me whenever I hear these songs. Thanks again!

  • Betsy Cook was indeed the sweet angel singing back up and playing the Hammond, though I'm not certain she played it for the actual recording. She stole the video. All of the gang did a fantastic job......would I have given anything to be there!?

  • @radxone Betsy Cooke did sing and play on the actual recording and in fact this video shows much of the ACTUAL recording as it took place along with some of the mixing session.

  • I'd forgotten how great this song and entire album are. And that's my brother-in-law playing excellent piano.

  • I'd forgotten how great this song is. And that's my brother-in-law playing excellent piano.

  • What a pleasure it is to see Gerry and his jammin' buddy's doin it like it should be done - simply magical. Can't stop playing it now!!

  • I can't beleave How this is Great...!!!

  • a genius arranger-the soft guitar licks and the wonderful soft organ licks by betsy-and what a voice she has--still gerry puts it all together-his genius and gentleness --one of a kind musician and entertainer--i listen to it again and again and again--and watch the video also--

  • Brilliant!

  • Love the way the drummer gets a few cheeky little beats by hitting one drumstick on the top of the other!

  • Does anyone know who that precious dark haired beauty singing backup and playin' the Hammond keyboard is?

  • @radxone Betsy Cooke

  • @WarnerMusicVideos

    Goodie, yummi.

  • Betsy Cook released a 1992 album with the interesting title, The Girl Who Ate Herself. I picked up a copy from Amazon UK. There are some great tracks including, "Diving", "Docklands", & "Love is the Groove". Her talents were certainly an excellent addition to Gerry's "Days Gone Down". Thanks for posting this video.
