This may help someone. I have gotten my decision today, from the judge while with legal representation. My friend asked me, "have you tried using the system against the system?" In short, what he was getting at was go to the EDD and make them find you work. When you get fired repeatdly, which I will, it is all documented by the state contradicting the states claims as to whether or not I am capable of "gainful employment".
A potential customer / employer should be educated about ERISA disability specifically. The employer is probably doing a disservice to the employee by making her believe that she is well taken care off in case of a disablity
Ask yourself this: why can a 40 year old middle manager buy group long term disability for a few hundred dollars when an individual plan will cost he/she well over $1500? Why doesn't some individual DI carrier lower their rate? Answer: they can't. They would go out of business. The real question to ask is why is group LTD so cheap, and the answer is because it will not protect you when you need it to! Millions rely on it, most don't understand it and many will get horribly screwed over.
Provident Unum supplemental disability insurance denied my claim when I could no longer practice as an anesthesiologist. They had no problem accepting my premiums, however, when I needed them most, they screwed me. I will never forgive them.
trying to shill a book. i'd tell you all this stuff for free. your employers policy is probably non contrib, meaning you don't pay for it. it probably covers 60-60% of your income plus other income benefits. buy a personal policy which covers the rest of your income, tax free. if you are really disabled, you will get paid. know your pre-x period. if you're sick already, it's likely too late to purchase insurance. this stuff is not rocket science.
I've noticed that chris4obama manages to find any post that reveals the scam behind disability insurance and adds a little note to undermine the factual statements. I suspect that chris4obama works with the industry or a PR company to do some stealth spin control. Now who is the shill Chris? Tell me Chris. Who are you really, and why do you take so much time and trouble to sift through You Tube undermining truthful statements? Chris4obama you're busted.
chris, pls don't be ignorant. nothing is free. when you say "employers pay", it is part of your benefits package. your decision to accept employment is based on total pkg, not just salary!!!!!!!
You need to do some research or check your sources. You may not pay for it thru your employer, but when you become eligible for SSDI Unum not only offests with the employee disability benefit but they also take your dependents benefit. So Chris, your are way wrong when you say it is free and there are no other benefits and one Enormous Loss, and that is your privacy. Because it is a group policy ERISA rules and HIPAA no longer applies.
IT ALL SOUNDS TO ME LIKE, 1 BIG SCAM

We have UNUM now helping "reform" the British NHS and access to welfare...
It's incredible to discover just how low some are willing to go for their god money!
