  • wow this was pretty touching and then he turned into toothpaste

  • Racism is lol funny.

  • racisttttttttt!!!

  • Now for the video that some people think racist? The lady wasn't scared because he's black, you notice her reaction that she was ' arguing ' him because she think he's a ' pedophile ' , thinking why would a man give a girl a balloon for what reason? If the guy wore a company uniform, pushes a wagon with a pole, has balloons tied on the pole, has a helium tank and it says free balloons, would you take one from him?

  • This is not about racism, it's about a toothpaste that look different than any other toothpaste cause of it's darker color. So you have to say to yourself: would I want myself to brush my teeth with this paste? And not only that, but it's herbal. So the plant must be dark. That's why they did this commercial.

  • funny nigger

  • @violetbloodtimisoara O_O really dude?

  • @violetbloodtimisoara fuck off

  • Well I don't think there's racist in Thailand. We had all kind of skin tone here :). Just the big black guy look scary that what I think.

Of course when I use the tooth paste for the first time I feel it's scary too! But actually it do like other tooth paste, though.

  • Why is that toothpaste brown? why not just make it green or blue?

People trust things that are green or blue without question!

  • @MrDentalFloss1108 Because it use no artificial coloring. And I think a part of it is charcoal.

  • Aww, that's so.. oh my gosh. ;o; IT'S SAD. ;'C

  • This is racist against thai if anything.

Americans don't understand racism and that's why they have such a racist history.

  • @Loodirros

If even a white feel its racist, it really is.

  • omg that was funny

  • its a trap!!!! he butchered the little boy after the commercial LMFAO

  • Does ANYONE know the damn song in the background? Been askin' for the damn name for numerous times and everyone seems to have their heads too far up their asses to even bother answering, just 'cuz they're too busy judging the damn commercial.

  • I like how some of the comments are plain ignorant and not thinking it through before commenting...it's a commercial with a strong message; stop blurting out "RACIST RACIST" when you see some stupid person yelling at another race. :p

PS: People who can't realize these asians are Thais are themselves racist.

  • what they are for, these Thais?

  • if the child was black and the guy was white, would be racism too?

  • Idiot in this advertisement is that he sleeps on top of a toothbrush. ahahahah

  • wtf?

  • Holy C$%¨&*()ap!!!

This comercial ain't leading to the racism, It tell U not to judge anthything by the appearance.

  • im using this toothpaste. and i feel sad for that black guy.

  • Your teeth will become black if you use this toothpaste I suppose.

  • what the fuck did i just watch

  • Wtf. Still a sad black man how sad. Didn't uderstand and its a wtf commercial

  • One year later and i still do not understand this commercial LOL

  • I FUCKIN LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL!

  • Comment removed

  • @9arn Why is that?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Am I fucking serious, It's just a commercial hahaha

  • @Reveal1912 how could an asian not be rascist? its the asian woman who discriminates against the black man, so is a racist

  • I think if they said something like "Don't rule out a good thing for how it looks" instead of "Appearance can be deceiving" This ad wouldn't seem as racist as people put it out to be. I agree with Loodirros in that the ad isn't really racist, it's even pointing out the issues in society about racism.

  • THIS IS FUCKING FUNNY

    LOOL

  • awwww thats sad

  • WTF is wrong with these people!? And why would a f*cking black person agree to be degraded in a commercial?? Idiot.

  • it's a cute commercial, don't get me wrong. i believe the underlying message "appearances are deceiving" is a good message but i really don't think they had to touch upon such a touchy subject to carry out the point.

  • @myheart715 I'd imagine it's less sensitive in Thailand.

  • i cried.

  • This is so racist. It's ignorant to believe that black people are made of toothpaste.

  • @LightWarrior23 that's a stupid interpretation. See what Loodirros has explained!!

  • @LightWarrior23 Toothpaste are made out of black people ***

  • Ohohohoh, dumb niggers.

  • Funny. But it just shows that racism can be a bad thing.

  • @Dotorgasaurus

    >shows that racism can be a bad thing.

    >can be a bad thing

    >can be

    o_O

  • racist

  • im thai and i think that that mum was a dick head...whoever made the video is a racist old fart.

  • the best part was when that nice guy turned into toothpaste

  • It tries to be anti racist but is still racist. Kind of like if I was to say that I'm not racist against asians, I like kung fu and I can't drive either.

It would be different if he just had to reach for the balloon and was the only person that could get it because he's so tall, then there wouldn't be a problem. This message is, even though it's black, no need to be afraid, it's actually good for you. But they still define the black man as monkey-like, you just don't have to be afraid of it.

  • racist

  • Hey! They ripped us off! That was our idea!

    Sort-of.

  • The Original Herbal Tooth paste

  • If this is an anti-racism ad in Thai then there is some racist chit going on in that country. It definitely speaks to the climate of racial issues between Africans and Thais. I will NEVER patronize a Thai restaurant again. Just when you think that black people are respected you realize that more than likely the chinky faces you see smiling at you are only doing so so that you patronize their establishments. Black folks, real ones need to unite.

  • @justme65196 How is it you are going on about racism then using terms like "chinky faces" and "peanut smelling animal"? Seems like you're the one with an issue with racism.

  • @Quasifonix oh don't turn this around. The BLATANT racism is in the commercial. I responded angrily to it. Looks may be decieving b/c he is African you assume he is bad. Y the hell would you assume that he was bad at all? Couldn't I say be watchful of chinky faces because they are usually money grubbing, racist people who will find some way to capitalize on your money? But you might just meet one that is decent.

  • loodirros, why would there be an assumption that black was bad AT ALL numb brain?!?!

  • Please- what is the song!?

  • This ad is ANTI-RACIST, people! I don't know who subtitled this but when it says "Appearance can be deceiving", the "voice" actually says "Don't focus on the outside" (I'm Thai) like "Don't judge on the appearance / Don't make clichés". So how is that racist?!

  • @nanthidaa Well then ask yourself why are people responding this way. OR are you capable of doing such? Anti-racism is just the opposite of what this is.

  • very smart and it is not racist jesus people these days

  • @michael12533 Only Jesus if he existed could cure your brain of stupidity.

  • naww :(

its not tha racist cuz thats what rly happens here

  • The fact that he climbs the pole like a "pygmy" and then morphs into black toothpaste is why its racist. It's hilarious though. If it were sketch comedy as opposed to selling a product there would be nothing wrong with it.

  • @avocadobaby Exactly. and that the kid's stupid mom comes up to him as if he was evil and did something wrong. First of all, if this consensus in Thai is that blacks are bad because they are black then this means he is lower than the Thais. Why would a self-respecting person commit such a feat, climbing a damn pole for some chinky looking child or any other child who thinks they are better?!?!

  • Okay as a black male I see the point that they're trying to make and I have to say, being one that has actually experienced racism similar to this, this is the most heart-breaking commercial I have EVER seen in my life. The music is good but it really doesn't help anything.

  • @djpyro86 This commercial made me cry. :'(

  • @djpyro86 I don't feel that this is racist though. It's a sad reality that people have to deal with but this commercial is definitely not racist.

  • @djpyro86 The music sucks. Sounds like a children of the corn theme for Thai kids or something.

  • Hahaha that was so funny, and yet sad at the same time.

  • yea, it was actually trying to show how sad racism can be...sad really

  • man that aint right... sort of makes me emotional for a reason i cant really explain.... :\

  • That nigga look like Ne yo.

  • @kevonedmonds Really? *stares*

  • @HelloHiGoodday Really ? LOL You must be east coast usa, we are saying that now, mainly parents to children. Really ? Really ? I bet that quote gets in a movie soon.

  • @kevonedmonds You're a simpleton to even use such language to refer to him. SImple and indecent.

  • @justme65196

For those who didn't get my satire, I was doing Riley , the smart mouthed kid from the boondocks. He always says you nikkas is gay or .....that nikka look like....so and so. This is actually a very touching commercial, but how much can be said about that ?

  • so what if it was a white guy playing the black guys role?

  • @easyliving02 first of all whites have a lot of power in controling their image. They do a good job if putting themselves on top. If the commercial was a white guy, it would actually be on point. As white people are good at covering their image and DECEPTION. But for most it would go over their head.

  • This commercial is completely anti-racist, its telling us that black can be bad and all he wanted to do was help. Makes me sort of sad since it's true...

  • Everyone can be bad not just black people. It's saying "appearance can be decieving"

So a tall black persons appearance is automatically negative and he has to prove otherwise? That is racist.

  • @ojideagu thanks for acknowledging the obviouis. It is a poor job at an racism.

  • Damn I'm offended.

    But I love that toothpaste.

    Mmmm....Toothpaste.

  • Not all racism is malicious or intentional. The commercial is only slightly so because it compares a black man to a product with the tagline "appearances can be deceiving"- a product which the company admits to being unattractive in its ad campaign. This could be just an error in the Thai translation, but as it stands it sends a subtle negative message.

  • This is crazy, the black dude in that ad is the hero - and people are calling the story racist?

  • He's toothpaste...

  • Ha. So is that the trendy new word replacement for 'nigga' or something? :)

Just listen to a track of Snoop Doggy Dogg with 'toothpaste' replacing every instance of 'nigga'.

"Hey toothpaste! You's a dead motherfucker now!"

  • @Ratznium HE is a HERO, huh?!?! Then why didn't the child's idiotic monkey momma not give the HERO, a HERO'S thank you. She acted like the HERO was about to pass on the Bubonic plague or something. The commercial was dumb.

  • @justme65196 if you really think this is directly taking a shot at the african population, your a fucking idiot. get over yourself.

  • I feel so sad for that little black glob of toothpaste. He just wanted to help!

  • Kinda on the right track... riiiiiiiight until the 0:51 second mark there

  • That was the worst commercial ever.

  • Why would anyone think this commercial is racist? The whole point was that you felt sympathy for the black man and that the Thai woman was wrong leading you to the conclusion that black isn't bad. It's enlightening if anything.

  • @Loodirros

One possible interpretation: the line "appearances can be deceiving" implies that while most black people actually are bad, there are a few that are exceptions to the rule. Whether or not YOU and everyone you know interprets it this way or not does not matter. Whether or not it was the intended interpretation of the creator of the ad does not matter. If enough people interpret something as racist, it has the effect of being a racist message.

  • @Loodirros: True, but unfortunately, most racist dingbats don't think that deeply. They'll see a mother pulling her daughter away in fear...and that's all they'll take away from the commercial.

  • lmao wtf!

  • Wow! Some people are so damned touchy. If you understand Thai commercials, they often use metaphor and thought provoking concepts because they know that Thais will actually ponder the meaning and the ad will stick in their minds. It's not meant to be racist. It's meant to make a point.

  • Yah that we judge eachother by our appearences and by creating a comercial that is show casing that so that u can "ponder" is still racist

  • I agree . some people here are so hell-bent on political correctness , they dont ponder over the true meaning of this ant-racist ad .

  • "Appearance can be decieving"

The advert is saying the black man LOOKS dangerous, that in itself is fucking racist. Just because he is tall and black.

  • @Quasifonix Your statement is inconsiderate of the portrayal of the the black man as being bad. As if he is bad BECAUSE he is black. To heck with the whinning peanut smelling animal and her racist mother! If Africans are held with such disrespect in this country this man would be an idiot to act this way. No self-respecting person would go through such a feat for a child whose mother is teaching her child racism.

  • @Quasifonix . So you're assuming that all Thais have the same kind of humor and the same reaction to things? That sounds a little...racist?!?!!?

  • does anyone know what the thai woman says as she snatches up her daughter? seems like someone who spoke the language might be able to make it out. thanks

  • it doesnt matter what she is saying. but the pint is, she took her daughter away from him.

  • funny as hell

  • LMAO

  • thats mad messed up...

  • dis iz racist.

  • lol that's weird...

  • hey . i have to used this toothpaste.

    its 10x better than colgate.

  • fuck, i'd never use a black toothpaste...

  • hence the quote "appearance can be deceiving"...

  • He should throw a party to help himself feel better, those ballons are gonna deflate soon.

  • QUE BOSTA

  • this is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo thumbutt proof.

  • Aww, I feel bad for him.

  • This ad is implicitly racist. Wtf does 'appearances can be deceiving' mean in this context? That blackness is automatically a bad appearance?

  • actually,

i think it reffers to his imposing size more than anything. He scared the mom cos he was huge and standing right by her daughter, plus he was a stranger. The toothpaste is black, and thats why he is black. But if it was...green herbal toothpaste, they could get the same actor and paint him and green and itd be the same commercial.

  • if it was green they wouldnt have made that commercial

  • THIS IS THE BEST COMMERCIAL EVER

  • I thought this was all out racist until i read the 6th comment:

    rudesystem11 (2 years ago) +2 Reply

the balloon represents plague in a hard to reach place. the the tall black man is the the toothpaste that'll sort it out and the freaked out mom is you going "I don't trust the black weirdness!"

That actually sounds very logical, the yellow balloon personifying the plaque, and basically the moral of the ad is that black can help you if you let it, the black toothpaste in this case.

  • the balloons represent hopelessness. At 0:45 you see there is also purple and orange balloons, these are from all the children that he could have been friends with.

  • no shit your late dumas

  • racists... toothpaste from where?

  • That tooth paste was way scarier looking than the black guy!

  • the toothpaste realy looks like shit...

  • Racist as hell

  • How come in the game of pool the object is for the white ball to knock the black ball down a hole. Huh muthafucka?

  • OH MY GOD HE SLEEPS ON A GIANT TOOTHBRUSH!! No wonder people run away from him

  • The add says that appearances are deceiving. Not many people have come across black tooth paste so their minds will be set against from the start. Same with Blackmen. If you do not know any you mind maybe set against them before you really got to know any.

  • Yeah exactly this adver is actually against racism but some stupid people think it's racist by judging it by it's appearance.

  • When i first saw it i was like wtf. But after showing it around to people i have started to feel sad for this guy. I mean looka all the ballons and he's all alone and still he wants to help people but they just run away from him. That toothpasteman has a genuinely good heart, people should be more like him

  • Comment removed

  • what the FUCK did that have to do with toothpaste?!

  • wow.

  • the toothpaste looks like poop

  • Comment removed

  • um ok

    that was so...

    unexplainable

    im black/malay

    n thats just...

    unexplainable

they coulda did it n e other way than that

  • This is racist because by unusual allegory.

  • this ad is real controversial.. but is it racist? i wouldnt say that

he just want help somebody but no 1 trust him

look at this toothpaste, if some1 give you a brush with it would you clean you tooth if you werent sure that that was a toothpaste?

look at this mother, she is scared of her child, why? maybe she heard some stupid stereotypes about people with dark skin and she believed it

this ad has some simple meaning.. that no one should judge others (people/things) just by their appearance

  • Anyone know a good store for herbs in Bangkok?

  • LOL

  • Seriously, it's not racist.

I bet we all use white toothpaste anyways, what about that.

  • but we don't associate it with white people..

  • dude

  • hahaaaaasdfghjkl;

  • idc if its racist of not, its funny..XD

  • dude! wtf?

  • WTF!?!?!!

  • Of course it's racist. Yes, it says that appearances are deceiving, but that statement is predicated upon the notion that blacks appear menacing and dangerous in the first place. Like our toothpaste, black people may seem unpleasant and unwanted, but actually they're not that bad! Wow, how progressive. And I haven't even touched the fact that he shimmied up that friggin' pole like a monkey on a palm tree.

  • It's not racist because the only reason a black man was even chosen to do the part is because the tooth paste's color itself is a dark brown. Not because blacks are perceived as menacing and dangerous. The reason the kid was taken away by the mother was because he appeared to be some kind of pedophile attempting to snatch the kid with the ol' candy trick (or balloon, in this case).

People don't associate the color brown with clean, shimmering white teeth, that's the whole point of the ad.

  • ...and if blacks were somehow considered a threat here, the kid would have ran when he first arrived. Seriously, it's not racist, it's just that foreign countries are not very sensitive when it comes to these things - which is understandable when you consider the fact that blacks make up VERY SMALL percentage of their population.

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHA

  • I appreciate the message, but it's a bit serious for a toothpaste commercial honestly.

  • racist as hell, but hilarious.

  • omg I agree lmfao!

  • kendoqv2k & maddywoo = Dumb & Dumber

  • What the fucking shit

  • This ad isn't racist. It's stereotypical. No human being can climb up a metal pole with his bare hands, unless you're exercising the old, tired stereotype that "black people are all more like monkeys than humans/are all superior athletes". If they had him climbing a pole w/rungs like a ladder then it would avoid appealing to centuries-old propagated myths like those. Then again, why not have him buy her a new balloon like a normal human being would?

  • didnt you get the memo?

the term racist has been changed. following stereotypes are racist now.

stop being so literal. you know what they mean.

  • he's determined to get her that balloon...y bein a lazy bugger and buy her a new one ;p

  • i'm black and i live in the south.....and i'm old enough to have been in the civil rights struggle of the sixties and seventies.....but i don't see anything racist about this.....quite the opposite.....it was well done.....and poingnient.....it brings home the fact that everything black isn't harmfull....and that because it's black....doesn't mean it can't be helpful....

toothpaste doesn't have to be white....neither do shining knights.....

  • word lol..

  • No, actually. The point is THIS MAN did a kindness and the mother thought he was a creep.

End of story... Why are these people so stupid?

  • black guy did a nice thing and the mom got scared. thats all it portrayed. how you interpret it is well, up to you.

  • no, it was to do with the fact no one ever uses BLACK toothpaste. they showed this by using humans as a metaphor and this coincidentally the human must be black to complete the metaphor.

if the product happened to be non linked to the black race of the
