my mom and sister took me to see this on the last week it was there on Main Street. the parade was my ritual when I would go, I even passed up rides to watch it. as the last float went up the road, I cried, I miss this so much. yeah sure it's at Disney's California but I never went to see it there, it just wasnt the same

Why did they get rid of the parade if it was so popular?

There were a couple of reasons. For one thing, the entertainment department had wanted to get rid of the Electrical Parade since the late 70s. They never fully realized what they had. They thought of it as crude and rudimentary. In 1992, Fantasmic was used as leverage between the entertainment department and the president to convince him to let them replace the Main Street Electrical Parade. They were like "See what we can do when we have the money for it?" So he keeled over.

Yeahh- main street was the first place i saw it back in the 90's. Sooo many memories of my first trip to disneyland =)

thanks for this video. i was a msep float driver during the summers of 1991 and 92 and your version is the best one i've seen. i was the backup staircase float driver when the regular guy is off or on vacation. it's a challenging float because you got people dancing on top, and you have to maintain a set distance from the guys walking ahead of you who are holding the canopy.

Excellent work Littlescienceguy. I hope you were at Disneyland November 96 to see the farewell performance. Lord, I think everyone in So. Cal. was there that night. We were right in front of The Emporium. I first saw this in 1972, and at least once every year it ran, right until the last show. Disneys finest parade bar none. Walt would have been proud. Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed the show! Yes, I was actually on hand for the final Main Street Electrical Parade on 11/25/1996. I'll never forget, and I also happened to be located in front of The Emporium, in the best spot ever for the last parade. Small world! lol. I met someone tonight at the park who was also there that night. She was situated over on the train station for the last performance. We seem to all be kindred spirits, destined to find each other. lol.

Well, many of the pictures that I used, I later found out, were from the "MSEP-The Final Season" VHS Cassette that used to be sold at Disneyland. I don't have that one, but the video is up on Google. As for the "Final Night" DVD, I do have that.

Thanks for "enlightening" me on what was what. I just asked my husband and he said now that he thinks back, Spectromagic sounds familiar. Myself,I never knew. I just knew it was some kind of parade of lights that we saw. And I knew it was between 2001- 2002. I love light shows. So does this mean Florida doesn't have it anymore? I'll have to look all this up. Thanks! 0:-)

You're very welcome. I always try to help. The key here is, do you remember hearing Baroque Hoedown with the parade? If you didn't, then it was Spectromagic. There are several parade of lights in Disney parks around the world, but Baroque Hoedown plays only for the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Yes, that is true. The finale of Light Tragic incorporated a bit of the Baroque Hoedown. It was nice hearing, but sad because you couldn't help thinking about Main Street Electrical Parade and it seemed that it was really gone at the time. You are most correct. Light Tragic paled in comparison to Main Street Electrical Parade.

Yes, unfortunately Walt Disney World is once again without it's Main Street Electrical Parade. Do not despair, for the parade now resides in Disney's California Adventure. The parade is only steps away from it's original home, Disneyland! Ironic, isn't it? First it was in Disneyland, then New York (1997), Walt Disney World (1999-2001), and then back to Anaheim at Disney's California Adventure (2001-present). This parade really got around.

Florida in 2002? It left Walt Disney World in April of 2001 though. You're probably thinking of Spectromagic. No, I did not take all of these pictures myself. Some of them I borrowed from other websites, and then I mixed those pictures with ones I took at California Adventure last year. I had a lot of fun making this. I'm glad it sparked nostalgia for you.
