In the early 90's I was introduced to alternative Rock. I got to see them at the Roxy in Hollywood in 94 i think but what a spectacular performance! I have ever since been influenced by their music and live performance. The Kitchens Rock!
The "like" bar is all green. There must be a reason. No one with a minimum amount of grey matter can dislike this. It's not a matter of musical taste, it's the emotional rope that takes you away from the sadness.

I caught a smoke (cigarette) behind the bar they were playing at in Austin, back in 1991 or so. I pinged them about their similarities to the Chameleons, and they definitely said that they were not influenced by them, even though it sounded like it. Straight from the horses mouths.
great song but not a big voice like Dm,sisters of mercy,the mission,the church,pleasure thieves,jack rubies,sleepy hollow,close lobster,lloyd cole,fra lippo lippi,seona dancing,voice of america,go,camouflage,fiat lux etc.
the railway children! um, jenny agutter, mmm mmm. well, one of the most beautiful songs ever written, IMHO. 'was it just that letter of pain?' or is about coming out then coming home? well i wonder. hmm, that's another good song. shush me, shush
the song is actually based on a particuar story by a certain author. . story and author i do not recall. . but thats what lead singer said in an interview i saw.
The lyrics get me every time . . . on every song. Beyond the gorgeous wash of textures; the stories are so realized and immediate. This is the sound of my adolescence. Not just this track. I had every album. A bit like Stipe ain't it, and yes more heart.
I'm an old Rush,Yes,Genesis,ELP,Floyd,Zep ,DPurple,Tull,Suptramp, you name it, back in 1994 at a musicland store in Dallas Tx. I heard a demo which I immediately fell in love with, it was KOD Cowboys and Aliens, and I bought all their collection, I love to listen to this band, It's such a shame they disintegrated, very underrated, it is simply, excelent music !
Beautiful, haunting and romantic. My favourite Kitchens song. A gem, that always bring a tear to my eyes.
Saw them in Leeds in 1993, they were amazing in a very small venue (student union), but I can't remember if they played this. Probably a bit hard to do live.
Supposedly they hardly ever did play it live - the pitch was supposed to have been too high for P/F's voice (it says it in the 'Capsule' liner notes).
i love their haunting sound. does anyone know of the KOD song that may go: "...you're the best thing...", followed by a nice short guitar riff. its from the late 1980s. (ok, so im slow at tracking down stuff!).
This song on the start of a long roadtrip when it's still dark in the morn and the sun has yet to rise is pretty much the best thing ever.

Drive That Fast and this one were belters of the album. Certainly better than the plethora of shoegazing tripe that was also about

Great great great as any song by KOD. Sheer talent, sensitivity and endless echoing guitars. Briliant.

is it just me, or does the singer of KOD sound a lot like Michael Stipe of R.E.M.? i mean, even if he does, i still love Kitchens of Distinction.
cheezewizzzz 2 years ago 2
Yes!! Thats who he reminds me of! I'm a big rem fan too.
Caleeboy123 2 years ago
No - he has more passion than Michael Stipe. I like REM a lot - but Patrick had a way bigger heart than Stipe.
RHutton2710 2 years ago 2
@cheezewizzzz His voice has a little less timbre but it has the exact same feel. They're two of my favourite bands, either way.
