OBJECTION! That is an unfounded assertion. Talent goes hand in hand with any instrument, and you need it to be able to play guitar your way. Arguably the violin offers no more than the guitar as far as that goes. Also learning different songs is IMO not a function of talent but of practice and learning new things. It's still respectable, but it isn't "true talent", whatever you mean by that.

But personally I use the frets to remember where on the neck the notes are, also makes it easier to get the notes clean I guess.

when you push down on a fret, you know which fret you are pressing, and because the string contacts the metal fretwire on both sides of your finger, the exact positioning of your finger does not matter. with a violin, not only are there no markings for where the notes are, but your fingers are all that contact the string, so if your finger is slightly out of place, it will sound different.

If you play violin, then why did you have to ask why frets make it easier? They eliminate the guesswork of finding fifth position. You just go up to the seventh fret, which is marked with an inlay. Much easier than the traditional solution of just practicing the shift until the jump feels natural and right in place.
