And a wing collar... with BLACK TIE? Dude, no. You should only ever wear a wing collar with white tie - full evening dress. The correct collar to wear with a tuxedo is a turned down collar formal shirt. Lots of people (particularly in the States) break that rule, but I tell you - those of us who don't judge the rest of you for doing it :P

@rootiest Haha, this is a British vs. American English problem. Black tie = tuxedos. White tie = another kind of dress code (google it). According to tradition, you shouldn't wear a wing collar with anything apart from the latter. People break this rule of course, but wearing a fold-down collar with a tuxedo looks much more classy.

Band collars are fine for casual/smart casual. I admit they don't fit with your wider style (you're clearly a very classic dresser), but they are great for giving an exotic edge to an otherwise quite middle-of-the-road outfit. Of course, I'm British, so maybe things are different here.

Alain Delon in the film Le Samourai would disagree with you on the button-down collar. The character he portrays, Jef Costello, is an assassin with lots of style; trench coat, fedora, grey suit and black tie, and of course, the button-down collar. I think people can pull it off while wearing a suit and tie.

Loved the video, I think that collars should also be judged on your shoulder width. His jawline and his broad shoulders seemed to make the widespread caller work, and look symmetrical. I prefer with casual wear just to go with a standard collar, short sleeve black or white shirt. Formal wear, I'd wear standard or spread collars.

I pretty much agree on everything. However, the stratford collar will work with a formal shirt and a bow tie, if you want to add an Edwardian flare to your evening attire. (that is about the only use for it I could come up with that wouldn't be too off the wall)

Funny thing about collars...have you noticed that most shirts with collar stays (or at least a slot to put them in, pun mildly intended) are the ones that are constructed well enough to not need them, whereas the ones with neither the stays nor the slots are the crap-tastic ones that need them the most? Your videos contain solid fashion advices and I appreciate your effort but I think you should cut on humor (or at least reduce it unless it's really good) and keep videos a shorter with more value packed in that time... Also, the little pins that hold together the halves of the collar are called collar-bars. Tie-bars are the little things you snap onto your neckties (also called tie-clips).
