    this is unnecessary and is actually counter productive.

    The cheato was no longer working for nutrients.... rather, it was feeding on the trapped debris. Also i rinsed it with tank water... so yeah im sure some of the pods became dislodged and went out with the waste water. but the cheato could then uptake nutrients from the water column rather than the trapped garbage. this is only needed if your sump is set up like mine or you have cheato that is actually picking up large amounts of debris.

  • @PhilDBowl I have since, made my ball of cheato spin in a better manner. ive also started turning it more often. both of these practices have made it collect less suspended junk. also the addition of some clean up crew in my sump and a pre-filter (sock maybe) would cut down on the need, but we aren't ready change things just yet... I appreciate the comment! and rest assured... i still have pods-o-plenty in my tank! that X3 is a pod breeding zone! and every few weeks it gets washed out too!
