This will always hold a special place in my heart.. First time I ever saw Billy & completely fell in love.. And now, 10 years later, I only love him more ♥
Yeah and teachers asked us to describe other students at a young age and they instructed us not to use the phrase "like" becuase it was to generic and held no meaning! fools they will switch like to observed eventually just like horse and buggy to highway and combustion propulsion
I remember when I invited myself over around 730 or 8pm to the house closest to the BNRR. Mrs. Christmas allowed me through and played this on there Boeing/microsoft beta ticket!! YEAH that shit happend and yeah my childhood was involved in lets call it tuning. when , "all the fun had been had the session was over but we live streamed all your options when I was a child!" THANK YOU sony and gawnet. Peace be upon the temple and his holy sister B.
Look up the writer at the library of congress - It was Fred Rose. Look up artists who performed the song and Bob Wills did it the year it was wrote and Jim Reeves did it in the 60's (Almost 20 years later) I knew that neither Willie or Bob wrote it - I thought it was Cindy Walker, but it is actually Fred Rose. Most of Bob Wills' tunes were in fact written by Cindy Walker.
"Roly Poly" was written by Fred Rose in 1946. "Roly Poly" was first recorded by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys in 1946, staying on the charts for 18 weeks and reaching #3. It has been recorded by many Western swing bands since.
Sorry Bomber, Roly Poly was written in 1946 and recorded in that same year by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys...Willie Didn't write it. I wish I could give him credit for it. He is one of my favorite writers/singers..
If I'm not mistaken...the year was 2000 and this WAS Billy's first major media appearance...I could be wrong, so please feel free to correct me if that's the case.
he has released 5 albums since 2000, including the christmas album. he's now working on a another, with him co-writing some of the songs. check out some of his newer stuff, it's really good!

Dolly Parton starts it,Aleep at the Wheel with JewBoy leader Ray Benson play it, and 11 year old Billy Gillman sings it with the Dixie Chicks looking on.(I like their version of Roly Poly ) the best.
I haven't bothered to try to find out how many times this old novelty has been recorded by various people. The first time I heard it was when I listened to Jim Reeves' version, which must have been recorded back when he was with Fabor Robison, before he signed with RCA in 1955.
>.< I'm really jealous that he can sing that well. Usually little boys that age would be afraid to go out and *gasp* sing, but he's not and he's freaking AWESEOME!! yay billyyyyy
Can't wait to hear him with a mature voice

Didn't Asleep at the Wheel (specifically Ray Benson) have something with "discovering" Billy Gilman and to get him his recording contract?
I thought I read that at one time.
Thank you

polkadot599 3 years ago
No I don't believe she is.
Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus's Godmother.
She only plays her aunt in Hannah Montana.
