  • You know, I have to agree with IamSandman. You gave symptoms and he took a guess as to what it might be. But without actually seeing it, How could he know for sure. Besides, he sent you to customer service. Chances are, he was telling you to go there to get a new one because it was still under warranty. did you pay for a diagnoses? did you pay for anything when you left? chances are, no. So it's not a fail, it's a "stop wasting Geek Squads time with trivial things."

  • LOL its not that their dumb.. no I take it back, they are. They just want to make money off of you.

  • This is the dumbest video i have seen online seriously ??? He was going to replace it for you so you would have been fine if you were a regular user that didn't modify the damn BIOS any tech at a retailer has allot fo shit to do and deal with if you bring them a PC that has problems and its new so it could be replaced why waste time diagnosing the damn thing just replace it not time for that bull crap

  • hdd does not mead hard drive disc, just hard drive. You are somewhat stupid.

  • @ilovemud2010 You really should make sure you know what you are talking about before you try to correct someone. You are correct that is does not mean "hard drive disk," but he was closer than you. It is actually "hard disk drive." It's ironic that you called him stupid, yet are obviously ignorant of the meaning yourself.

  • @stingray7306 It used to, now Microsoft only considers it a "hard drive". Physically, you are correct, software, I am. Get off of your high horse.

  • Ok. So I work at Best Buy. I will admit they make mistakes at geek squad, but this was NOT a mistake. He was still under return policy. We will not check his computer we will replace it. He did not want to charge the guy for a diagnostics so he just said, "take it to customer service".

    This guy is a dumbass

  • The only thing I wouldn't check if I was a tech is that! Why would I check if someone purposely turned it off. I would check everything else then go "your HDD is bad"

  • the typical thing they'll tell you.. "you need a new hard drive".. just so they won't have to clean it..smh.... I could really enjoy making one of those geeks cry..

  • Ever notice every time somebody tests for this that they disable the HDD?

  • As a technician, I would never check to see if someone purposefully disabled a hdd in the bios to prevent it from booting. This is something that the user has to change themselves. No virus will get into your bios and disable boot devices nor will any hardware failure cause this. I agree that the technician should have at least looked at the pc.

  • they don't expect you to bring in a sabotaged computer is part of the issue, you don't put sugar in your gas tank and take it to the mechanic...

  • We all know geek squad fails but your bragging to much about their fail ): no meanie pl0x

  • lol it looks like they didn't even look at the computer. All he asked was if it would boot then said it sounds like a bad hard drive.

  • FCUK Best Buy!

  • Who the fuck disables their hard drive or takes it out of boot sequence? Why would the agent have checked this? You sir are an idiot and have proved only that, nothing more.

  • IS that Windows Vista ? You're one sick bastard

  • HDD stands for hard disk drive, not hard drive disk. More importantly, you did not disable the hard drive, you simply took it out of the boot order. If you would have booted off of a flash drive (or anything for that matter) you still would have been able to access your hard drive. Also, if the Geek squad would have hooked up a USB cd drive and ran a hardware diag it would have tested and passed the hard drive. Obviously Geek Squad and yourself needs to do more research before touching a PC.

  • Like "Any" computer tech would know that you were screwing with the bios? Most people dont pay attention to it let alone touch it

  • This video seems more like a publicity stunt. Would have subscribed regardless, but at the end not really. Guess I'll use google for my answers. Who knows, you could be trying to do the same thing.

  • You sir, are a chob! I may add in an idiot too! You bring in a pc to a repair center, dont tell them any information, dont check in the pc, and expet something accurate, please come in this area so i can make some money off you, retard!

  • nice work!

  • This is hardly an EPIC FAIL. You pretend to be an expert, yet you don't know that HDD stands for hard disk drive. The DISK is hard, not the drive. And the computer WILL boot with the HDD disabled-IF you place a system disk in another enabled drive. And the comparison to an MD is ridiculous, since all good doctors base their diagnosis on BOTH tests AND your description of symptoms and the same test results mean different things with a different history. You need more experience-can the attitude.

  • Fail its hard disk drive not hard drive disk

  • So they got a bad diag, which I am not debating - however what I said still stands they were going to give him a new computer at no cost to him and this doesn't seem like this was very epic: heroic; majestic; impressively great...

  • 13 people work for Geek Squad

  • I went to my doctor just so I could throw up on him repeatedly. He said I had a stomach virus even though I was just pretending! EPIC FAIL.

  • What the **** everyone wrote down big coments =l

  • first of all, i think you've missed the point entirely. you are ignoring the business model and treating the geek squad as if it were some high and mighty standard-filled tech bench run by a group of people with serious ethics. it is a subsidiary of THE WORLD'S LARGEST ELECTRONICS RETAILER. what the hell do you expect? the kids behind the desk are lucky to make 10 bucks an hour with no college. but i'm glad you're so smart that you came up with this "EPIC FAIL" (seriously kill yourself)

  • Having worked in retai and in the private sector in pc/network repair, the public at large is ignorant, you never get any respect at the retail level, from customers, managers or anyone else. most of those guys stop giving a shit after being yelled at 60 times a day by idiot customers. your video proves nothing.

  • how about I "break" a computer and see how long it takes you to fix it. oh and throw in you have an asshole illiterate manager to deal with, idiot customers who have no idea how to use their, pc, phone, radio, microwave constantly in your face and you have 10 minutes to give a diagnostic to a turd who keeps looking at porno. Not to mention poor training and high turn over. Yes a real technician would figure it out but the demand for the public to fix it now makes hasty judgements.

  • don't blame the agents, blame the company..... easy fix if you know what to look for, there are many variables that come into a diagnostic. it's a process of elimination. eventually a good technician would find out the issue. but your video is flawed because you know what you did to it.

  • normal customers have no idea about the settings in the BIOS, and the BIOS rarely changes itself. for a proper diagnosis you should have mentioned that you were piddling around in the BIOS, that would have prompted the agent to check that. without that info we will normally not go into that depth at the counter.

  • I work at geek squad and reget that we missed you issue, however in our defence when a computer enters the store we have a limited amount of time we can spend with the client at the counter w/o charge, COAs (counter operations agents) give an eductated basic diagnosis based on the symptoms presented, we normally do not go into depth like the BIOS, we can catch a unattached SATA of IDE cable at the counter but not a settings issue. it would need to be checked in and evaluated by a tech.

  • Store level geeks are only there to deal with software issues. It gets shipped to a service center for hardware issues. The reason he didn't know what was going on is because he's not trained to fix hardware issues. The error message was indeed telling that agent it was a bad drive, or the drive wasn't booting, so he sent you to the CS desk to get it shipped off. If it would've been shipped, it would've gotten fixed. Don't fault the squad because you don't get how they work.

  • According to what I watched, you stated that it was a new PC and just bought it. So the Geek Squad wanted to make it right and just exchange it out go off of instinct. It was actually nice of them to do that for you. Not every store would have offered that.

  • Cause people always disable their HDD in BIOS... right...

  • @AndAy224

Somebody who thinks that they know everything about computers could be messing around with the BIOS.

  • @AndAy224 yeap this video is an epic fail. some knows it was working before and now it does not boot up, well the hard drive went out. easy exchange. why would some one go into the settings to see if the bios change on its own???

  • did you use a DVR spy cam

  • When i try "Start Windows Normally" or "Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent seettings that worked)", it then asks me to select the operatind system to start, with the only option Microsoft windows xp edition. After selecting this, the computer goes black.

When i try "Safe Mode" it again asks me to select the operatind system to start, with the only option Microsoft windows xp edition. After selecting this, it comes up with:

  • man am i lucky that i know a few very smart computer geeks so i will never have to resort to trusting someone i dont know to repair my computer.

  • I am currently in school for I.T. and have already tested out of many college computer courses. I plan on getting my foot in the door with Geek Squad as a technician who is A+ certified working on N+, S+,C++. It's just sooo painful to see how bad some Geek Squad Agents actually are. I took my laptop in for repairs as a joke and said it was missing a Hard Drive(I took it out) I needed a new one. The guy took one look at a IDE hard drive interface and said you need a SATA drive and handed it to me

  • @democraticunity Best Buy is not the way to go. I found out the one nearest my home not one person one Geek Squad has any certifications, not one. Logically it is about sales and not troubleshooting. The work done there is very limited. You would be disappointed, it is not really a tech job. Most with in Geek Squad come from the sales floor and have been working for Best Buy for a while.

  • Did you have to pay them at all lol. How do you get them to check your computer without having them make you pay. I wana try this at the bestbuy near me

  • FAIL SQUAD

  • paying $100.00's of dollars for nothing what a fuckin rip off company

  • geek squad just hires any random person...

  • The video didn't show you checking it in and paying for the diagnostic!!! A bit unfair at best, the symptoms showed it was a bad drive, they didn't get the chance to run the diagnostics on it, they just assumed it was a bad drive, but the best answer you are going to get without them actually looking at it and running tests.

  • It gave the symptoms of a bad hard drive, and depending on what you told them when you brought it in you may have influenced that decision when they asked questions about it.

This is not an epic fail, but an error in diagnosis - and it sounds like they were going to replace the computer for you, which means you aren't out any money...

  • @IamSandman So what if it gave the symptoms? When you go to the doctor he/she doesn't tell you what is wrong with you until they do some test(s) on you first. He should have taken a couple minutes to look at the settings.

  • @LastArmamentAirsoft The point is, if you didn't give any symptoms, this isn't something that normally happens. You have to realize that what you did was unfair. This wasn't about proving the Geek Squad's competence - it was about proving your point that Geek Squad is some how less than qualified to repair computers.

Try installing a virus, or corrupting a windows file. Do something that your average user can/would do and see what happens.

  • @LastArmamentAirsoft IamSandman is correct. The initial diagnosis would not be to check the boot sector or HDD settings in BIOS upon first inspection. Of course the guy at the counter is not like "Did you disable the boot sequence or present HDD in BIOS?". Anyone that has worked in IT would not call this an epic fail they would have it looked at it more detail, Best Buy charges for that service. If you limp in to a doctors office does he diagnose on the spot or ask for an x-ray?

  • @IamSandman jumping to conclusions isn't a diagnosis, its jumping to conclusions. Checking out what the BIOS says is always the last step in troubleshooting hardware. EVERY tech knows that.

  • @IamSandman fuck no.. this is not an error.. I've had someone test me like this as a joke.. you can figure this out within minutes....this is not something you accidentally miss.. by the way 8 geek squad workers disliked this.. and you probably work for them too

  • Its really pitiful to see piece of shit "slip-through's" as I call them, because they slip passed management and give the Geeks and the Geek Squad a bad name. I'm an Agent at Precint #159 and I take my job very seriously, and I'm a very knowledgeable Agent/Technician, holding many Certifications and College Education.

  • @bigduey69 Yeah it is

  • @bigduey69 I agree with you and that is the exact reason for me posting this video. The company should evaluate workers more before they get the job.

  • @LastArmamentAirsoft You gotta understand that Best Buy doesn't hire Computer technicians.. maybe one or two per store, the rest are all sales people, you know those that can walk door to door and sell things to people. They wan't people that can talk and manipulate customers.

  • @LastArmamentAirsoft no you posted this video to make someone look bad, the guy who was asking questions was only asking about the problem and was willing to replace your computer for free. next time you deside to post a bullshit video about stuff you know nothing about think about the reputation of the person you are ruining.

  • @bigduey69

I agree with y'all. I'm an agent too, but I've seen some other agents at different stores that just...well....don't know their stuff. It's a shame..

  • @bigduey69

me too, I met someone I work with who doesn't know what the BIOs is or how to boot to a disc.Fml.

  • @bigduey69 Is precinct 159 the name of a geek squad group? I have a tremendously difficult time finding competent geeks squad agents to fulfill my requests when I have an issue under my "Accidental Protection Plan" Where is precinct 159? This Sony Vaio is a boat anchor and I have 5 months left on my plan. Would like to know someone is looking at it who can tell a goose from a pencil eraser.

  • @bigduey69 Yet, you can't spell Precinct? lulz

  • @TheOriginalSapience , oh wow, a typo, excuse me.

  • @bigduey69 Sorry man.. I was drinking.

  • @bigduey69 I'm drinking again, and I wish to tell you I'm glad you uploaded this. Sorry for being a dick :D

  • @bigduey69 Best triple post ever?

  • Dude you have way o much time on your hands just to prove a stupid point! GET A LIFE!

  • I live like 2 seconds from best buy so it only took like 5 minutes of my time

  • you fail for thinking they don't know their stuff...they are trying to get money out of you into thinking you gotta buy a new hard drive.

  • Not true i would have gotten a new computer altogether.

  • Geek Squad is bs

  • Are how can you get the password for a WEP or WPA

  • Are you on a mac,cuz i see the leopard background in the reflection.

  • @UntitledGamers he says windows like 1,000,000 times

  • hehe i just now saw that
