  • According to the notes on the Set Movements cassette, the ad was released in 1983

  • Definitely from 1984. It has a classic Utravox sound of course but it's superb.

  • Have not seen this advert since 1982,just fantastic, always remembered it had amazing music but couldnt remember what it went like.Should have made it into a single im sure in 1983 it would have been big.I love the internet!!!!

  • @crowndrive35 I'm pretty sure this piece of music wasn't released until 1984! It was incorporated into the 1984 Set Movements Tour cassette (I bought mine in June '84 at the Hammersmith Gig), and I don't think the Levi advert had been out much before then. I definitely agree that if expanded it would've made a good single.

  • Great stuff. Where I was living (UK) it was being aired around late 1982. Never expected to see it again. Thanks for posting :)

  • This advert was directed by the brilliant Nick Lewin. I worked for a time with the company that represented him (MGMM Overview), and saw this 10 billion times and never got tired of it. :-)

  • I remember this ad really well, and especially the music.....thanks a lot for posting it :)

  • THE tv ad when I was growing up.

    Genius.

This was the beginning of the modern UK advertising industry.

    The key word? Subtle.

  • fwk.you tube is amazing..gems like this pop up..well done dlusman

  • a true icon. been in my head until now. awesome.

  • I'm reading Midge's autobiography "If I Was" where he mentions this. It was a success, but the sequel "Threads" wasn't: the ad agency messed him around so much as he was producing it, he eventually took it back, and it got made in to an Ultravox hit: "Love's Great Adventure".

  • It makes for a great read, doesn't it? I love his sense of humour.

  • I had forgotten just how good this was. Thanks for posting it.

  • Amazing to find this - knew it was Midge Ure when it was out and always liked it, thanks for posting it. Does anyone have the music he played in an interview on Capital Radio (long ago)- it was one-off I think. Used to have it on cassette...

  • I had a gut feeling it sounded like ULTRAVOX at the time, but it wasnt until a few years later I found I was right.

GREAT TRACK, should have been exteneded in to a song!

  • @gynofingers - This 'mini' Rivets track was also on the end of the cassette tape that came with the Ultravox 1984 Set Movements tour programme. The rest of the tape contained an interview with the band. I still have this cassette somewhere too!

  • @1986uno45s - me too.........!

  • Wow, I loved this music when I was young - didn't realise it was by Midge Ure. Listening to it now (20+ years later!) it's so obvious, esp 28secs in. Fantastic stuff!

  • I think that they won an award as well for the music.

  • I remember going to them at Hammersmith oden and getting the program that had a cassette with it. On it was this track and a interview with group. I think that it was 1984, messengers was the support group. Still have the program and tape somewhere

  • you are correct an award was won and the tour was called set movements and the messengers supported ultravox for most of their concerts also the tape came with a booklet with pictures and lyrics in it

  • Whow!, a friend of mine give it me in a longer mp3 version with (I suppose) initial Midge's words... one of the greatest treasures I've discovered in years. Mhhh, these good old Rage in Eden times...

  • OH MY GOOD GOD, I am one very very HAPPY BUNNY after finding this posted on YouTube, THANKYOU so much dlusman for posting this super rare gem, and all your other Midge / Ultravox postings THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!!!!

  • I've been searching for ages for this & did wonder if anyone had a copy as I've only seen it listed against Mid Urge on a website. It is without doubt one of the best adverts of all time. I've only seen it at the cinema, never on TV (was this deliberate?) but when it came on people would applaud/ cheer at the end- it had that effect and still does today. Thanks for posting this great memory

  • I loved this add at time, the tune stuck in my head, great to hear it, thanks.

  • or even on good old CD ! i don't think it has

made it onto any official Ultravox compilations yet, though i could be wrong.

as mikvee says, top tune, thanks for

loading this clip, 1st time i've heard it

since it was a trailer before a film at

the cinema 25 yrs or so ago !

  • Would soooo love the MP3 of this....top advert tune!!
