all this talk about what they were influenced by, who gives a shit, they influenced everything else, and what did influence them was doo wop music and horror/gore material.
Gang, everybody in the band brought something to the table. That's what made em unique. So there's really no pinpointing who they siphoned their influence straight from.
Can you really claim that the Misfits were inspired by the Sex Pistols? Hell no! I like the Sex Pistols, but they are way over-rated. The only reason they decided on a "punk" look and sound was because their manager was inspired by Iggy Pop and Richard Hell while in the states. The Sex Pistols are commercial compared to the Misfits. Listen to the Misfits Theme for a Jackal, and She, and tell me what their real influences are. The Misfits adopted a punk sound to fit in with the scene, but
nah, they were inspired by the pistols. by saying the sex pistols were commercial makes you sound like a new-school poser. sorry to spoil your old-school rant
They were undoubtedly influenced by the Pistols and UK punk. Maybe not a main musical influence but the influence is there. Glenn was also friends Sid and his mother
no straingly he was not he was influenced by elvis and black sabbath and blue cheer and his love for horror movies i know this cuase i had to do a report on him for a history class time line
static age was recorded in 1978! and the misfits were more influenced by the ramones than the sex pistols! just listen to last caress, it is very similar to blitzkrieg bop by the ramones! the misfits are far better than the sex pistols! but the sex pistols were a really cool band, one of the best punk bands. the misfits ARE the best punk band ever tho!
Neither were they inspired by the Ramones nor the Sex Pistols. They were inspired by music Glenn played before them, '50s songs and horrormovies of course. And Last Caress doesn't sound like Blitzkrieg Bop IMO, but it could, because very much punk songs use some of the chords.
OH JEEZE! This whole page is worse than a slew of bitches whining about Interpol or something after getting off to the video above all of their bs comments. "they sound like the pixies" "the pixies? what's wrong with you?" "oh so-and-so's voice is" "how can you say they weren't influenced by Joy Division" .yeah, okay. . .6 pages of that. . .reeeeeeeally NECESSARY, girls. Go text someone.
@nothatsweird So, did Doyle write any music for the original Misfits? He didn't. I don't give a fuck, if the way he beats his guitar was inspired by the Ramones, he's just playing power chords, it's not science or anything, there isn't much variety to it. And his playing was horrible back then anyway.
Sex pistols are givin more credit for a music genre then they deserve they didnt start punk in the U.s. or anywhere really. If anyone it was the ramones who were just beatin to "fame". fuckin preps and your false info stay the fuck out of youtube... better just go emo and kill yourself faggets.
The Misfits were clearly influenced by the Ramones(as all punk groups were), they did what the Ramones did, but were faster and more brutal, and of course Danzig has the best voice of all time! Danzig is the #1 rocker and punk of all time!
how do you assume that??? The Sex Pistols started in 76 and The Misfits, 77... I wouldn't think in that year the Sex Pistols would have influenced much over on this side of the Ocean.
My assumption was only based on the fact that the sex pistols preceded the misfits by two years (formed in '75) in the punk rock scene. Was it direct influence? Probably not.
The misfits really came out in 77 but Glenn was playing in hte misfits before Only came in. And he wrote "future misfits songs" before the misfits even existed, so hard to believe that it was influenced by the sex pistols. Although, i don't know about that song spook city USA.
This is The Misfits version, the Danzig version sounds different and slight lyrcial changes, "here i'm gonna die for sure, I don't want no substitutes"
Pretty sure this is the Misfits version, this was the version from the box set. The solo Glenn version sounds a lot better. Less guitar, better bass part, better overall feel.
Henry was all pumped up that night...hahaha. I do remember the guy from Saccharine Trust being there as well. There were only about 50 people at that gig that night.
These tracks were originally recorded with The Misfits in 1979, and they had one 12" Who Killed Marilyn EP created on acetate; but this proved to be too expensive for them to produce at the time. In 1981 Glenn Danzig re-recorded two of the tracks, playing all the instruments himself, and released it as this solo 7" single.
Actually - this is the version WITH the full band from the box set. The Glenn Danzig solo version was from his single (it was the B-side to his version of Who Killed Marilyn). I really prefer the Danzig solo version, it has a much more spooky (sorry) atmosphere.
it's not Misfits it's Glenn Danzing alone

were influenced by all sorts of music. Danzig's first band was a Black Sabbath cover band, not a Sex Pistols cover band.
