Those are your two choices? knowing nothing else about you, go for the kingsnake. There is a lot more dedication and danger with keeping a large breed snake. Both snakes will be calm tempered... but why are those your two choices? a Ball python would be a good inbetween. Doscile, girthy like the burm, and not so big. Look up "morphs" or bred specialty pattern ball pythons there are a million and one varieties and they're are som beautiful snakes.
There are many types of boa, do you mean a red tail? Temperments for most boas are good to moderate. unless your talking about high humidity exotics like tree boa's or rainbows.
@neil22100 Burms are known to be one of the most docile of the large snakes, and red tails in a good environment can be just as docile. However i've seen a few nasty red tails, and no nasty burms.
Buying young is always better keeping in mind that little sname is going to get BIG!!!!! i cannot stress that enough. We got lucky and rescued this guy at about 5 feet and he's got a sweet temperment untill he smells food ... then VORACIOUS!
6ft is huge for a ball, probably power fed while young. his attitude is established at this point and aside from intensive work and having a great sense of understanding how your snakes mind works you're probably SOL on trying to change his aggression.
Do you mean Ball Python? Or did you abbreviate Burmese Python and not realise thats what people say when they mean Ball Python? Cos that's a huge Ball......
You could calm down a 6ft burm if that's what you meant. Hook-train too because it might just be cage aggression or a feeding response.
wow beautiffull snake i own a burmese python also its just a baby tho, and its not albino but i love these snakes , what is the name of this song and who is it by
beautiful burmese you have there, i wud always say a male is the best for size when it comes to things like these as the females often exceed twenty feet with alot of girth and then people try and give them to zoos as they cant handle them any more lol
and about the feeding inside the enclosure dont you have a hook and a pair of tongs? dont u do hook training with them or no? these really does help when it comes to getting large snakes from enclosures and when its feeding time. read up on hook training large snakes really is helpful.
We've been working at the hook training, association training... We need to resort to feeding him in a completely seperate enclosure. It's very diffacult to break his hunt, and he's voracious. Never bitten out of irritation tho, just feeding mistakes.
Burmese have the best attitude of the big snakes. i have to be very careful to break the hunt when I open his cage, but that's my fault for feeding him in there more often than I should. Once he knows what's going on he doesn't bite or even seem to mind lots of people! Great snake. be warned. the females can get to be 20 feet and over 200 LBS!
Beautiful snake! That is my dream snake. Unfortunately, they are too big for crappy studio apartments! I have a one year old Ghost ball python male, and a 2 year old het ghost female. They're ready to breed this season! Hopefully I'll be picking up a couple more morphs before then as well. And when I finally have the room to provide a kick ass viv for a Burm..it willll be mine, oh yes, it will be mine. XD
At 10 feet we made it a rule not to handle him alone. I don't think I would be incapable of handleing a case of "mistaken identity", however I would much rather have my wife around in that situation. It's happened.
When you own a big snake with a good temper, it makes you want to bring it to public places and get the reactions. It's a very unique experience! we love to take him out places in the warm weather.
Loved your still shots at the end, especially the close-up of the snake's head. Very good photography!
