Good writers know the rule: "show not tell".
@NevilleRhysBarnes There are many youtuber's out there that will give you what you want. This person likes to insult people, as well as show how poor the opposition argument is. It is educational, and humorous for some. After so long of putting up with the same idiotic arguments, it's nice to just say, "fuck you" sometimes. It's of course not for everyone though. So simply watch another video if this one offends you.
My favorite refutation of the claim that Tiktaalik is not a transitional form is to grant it for the sake of argument. Then I go on to point out that its discover is still a successful prediction of the Theory of Evolution. They successfully predicted what they were going to find and where they were going to find it.
The icing on the cake? That they went to an island in the Canadian Arctic specifically looking for it.

@FromAcrossTheDesert True, but insult and Ad Hominem are not synonyms. If you listen and follow the video the insults are not actual parts of the argument.
@x42brown Arguments are discourse intended to persuade. Since you clearly intend your insults to part of the persuasion, then they are in fact part of the argument. Or maybe you don't intend to persuade at all, and in that case you are not presenting any argument and reason has nothing to do with the discourse at all. Maybe the discourse is really simply a petty display of bickering.
@FromAcrossTheDesert the "insults" are part of the entertainment value actually (to me at least), not the arguments. But I guess if you are a YEC the only thing that could possibly register in your brain are the insults. People with normal brains however can see that a response to the same old puerile YEC bullshit doesn't require a rocket science degree. It usually is enough to point out where the information they spew comes from.
@assalane I put the YEC in the same camp as the Scientism people. Each group has their "world view" which they fervently proselytize indiscriminately. Science cannot explain everything, and the world was most likely created over a period greater than 1 million years. There is enough ignorance to go around. I wish someone would actually talk about science and/or theology. I find both subjects to be enlightening. The insults I only find as a prelude to violence and polarization.
Why do you think someone's "world view" have any incidence in the scientific method's process? ie Why do you think the peer review process exist, and science have many times revolutionized itself?
How do you think that science witch deals with the natural and theology witch deal with the supernatural could ever be reconciled in any way?
What do you think science will never be able to explain?
As you use argument in a different manner than I intended I will rephrase.
The insults were not part of the reasoning or evidence for or against the points. The reasoning and evidence is clear well sourced and referenced forming, to me at least, a well constructed argument. The insults are a amusing extra.
@FromAcrossTheDesert Way to go with the false dichotomy! Studied much apologetics? This is particularly ironic in the light of your previous request for a "cogent argument". In addition, great job on judging my intent (Matthew 7:1 says something about judging, doesn't it?). If you'd spent time to do some research and read at my profile before clambering onto your high horse you might have realized that my aim is and actually criticized that instead of the two straw-men you constructed.
@FromAcrossTheDesert I completely agree. I am, however, at a loss as to why you felt the urge to regale us with the bleedin' obvious. I can only imagine it was because you were insinuating that I am engaging in said fallacious argumentation. If that is the case, you would be well advised to learn that the Ad Hominem is a fallacy and should not be confused with insults in order to prevent yourself from looking foolish again in a comment section in the future.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@TheLivingDinosaur OK. Clearing away all the "insults", what is the real argument? Go ahead and make a cogent argument. You know one that begins with premises and ends in a conclusion.
@FromAcrossTheDesert (1) Interesting. You don't defend your position by pointing out even one ad hom, but continue your insinuation with your use of parentheses. Not very honest or Christian of you. (2) You may not have noticed, but this video is about science, not philosophy so your request for a syllogistic argument is not making you look any less foolish than your initial erroneous assertion. (3) If you take your hands off your ears when you watch the video you may actually hear my arguments.
@TheLivingDinosaur I love how you've managed to pull out a short comment which could have gone completely unnoticed and eviscerated it with all the force and eloquence you have in most of your videos so am now wondering how long it takes you to write these videos. =D
@TheLivingDinosaur My position? Go to "Atheist myth #1 Science can explain everything" if you want to know my position. By the way I am an engineer and a scientist. What is your profession? I have seen many scientific papers and videos... this does not resemble a scientific presentation at all.
My ears and eyes are open.... please publish a video worth real science.
@TheLivingDinosaur Are you suggesting science does not use logic and reason? I'm still looking for an cogent argument. I am starting to think you cannot provide a logical argument?
@FromAcrossTheDesert this is indisputable. Note there is a huge difference between. "What you said is so mind boggling stupid I can only conclude you are an idiot, and here's why" and "I'm not going to touch this argument, because you are an Idiot"
If you want creationists debunked in a straight laced fashion, seek elsewhere. TLD knows he's not going to change anyone's mind who doesn't have the integrity to follow the truth to wherever it leads. This is purely a cheerleading session for reason.
@Mostlyharmless1985 No, I am not a creationist. I am an engineer, and you should know that science is based on mathmatical and logical truths. Do you know how to reason... if so please provide some sense of reasoning without the tired fallacies such as Ad Hominem, Begging the question, etc..... Your move chief.
@FromAcrossTheDesert Do you read the comments before you reply? Mostlyharmless1985 did not say you were a creationist and I can't see anyone else saying you were either. I've just finished viewing your videos and am not impressed. May I suggest a script and editing. The techniques you are using need an audience to see how well things are going down. They do not work well straight to a cameras.
@x42brown Thank you for your critique. I know the production is a bit crude, but I assure you, the production of the videos is not done in order to impress anyone; they were simply produced to dispel atheist myths about Christianity. Do you have an argument to refute the videos' statements to fact. Namely "Science cannot explain everything" and "Fundamentalism does not define Christianity" and "the book of Genesis is more relevant today than ever!"
@FromAcrossTheDesert As I am not an atheist I would have difficulty in being certain but most atheist I know would have no difficult in accepting your statements 1 & 2 although may well be amused by your arguments for them. On the other hand statement 3 no. Any relevance to real life in any of the Pentateuch was marginal by the time it was written far less now. I won’t go through your video on that again unless you present it better so won’t enter into an argument on it.
This is a crazy idea and if i was able to i would the only reason i do not is that i admit i am not what most would call an "intellectual"Christians claim atheist is a belief i say lets play their game open an atheist"church"i bet it would work teach people the truth, people i think would donate to it as well, and since it is considered a belief why not teach people a belief that is also fact,if i had the knowledge i would invest my money in something like that.
@philosophicalreason isn't an atheist church just a science department at 98% of college universities? People do donate money to universities to fund science organizations.
@drewnut I was trying to give my idea using a small amount of space so people would not think i was spamming but i guess i have little choice. The long version is that not everyone cam afford college and people that are older and cannot go to college because of their job.If there was a way to teach people of all ages, backgrounds and "poor" for lack of better a word.I got the idea from watching the meeting The Amazing atheist had with Matt Dilahunty, and others spoke and gave lectures.Having
@drewnut smaller venues where everyone is able to go to and learn more,at minimum cost as i stated through donations and things lie that.I apologize to others and The Living Dinosaur for taking up a lot of space but since i had to explain what i meant i had little choice.
@philosophicalreason You spent half of your message bullshitting but anyways people donate to churches and attend churches out of fear. There is no fear, guilt or any other emotion to motivate atheists to attend atheist meetings so schooling is probably the best way to go, that and youtube videos
@drewnut you tube ???? your kidding right well then i guess people like nephlimfree and venomfangx are a reliable source of information.I do agree with what most atheist say i do not take what they say as perfect inerrant facts.I listen to what they say then i go to the library and and verify to the best of my ability what they say is true, how many atheist meeting places do you know, i know of none aside from what the thinking atheist did on a video i believe people want to know the
@philosophicalreason youtube has an enormous atheist community and you can debate an analyze opinions in the comments section, posting your own videos, or by rating. youtube is the greatest invention to promote free thought and you can remain anonymous.
@drewnut I go to Church to worship God. I donate when I can to help the Church spread the Nuon Gallium. I don't feel guilt. Where do you get your information (propoganda?). Do you know Christianity? if you do you should be able to tell me about the key to the spiritual life.
@FromAcrossTheDesert Many churches do guilt trip people into giving. Additionally the old testament commands the giving of food, animals and other things for sacrifices. I believe the people were required by god in the old testament to give 10%. Jesus said you must give everything away and live your life serving others to guarantee you'll get into heaven in 3 gospels. Many churches claim it is immoral not to give so yes guilt can arise from this.
Actually saw a Colloquium on the tiktaaliksubject yesterday. it was fascinating but the researcher hardly had any problem with the fact that it was unusual. To him it simply means there is a gap that we don't have samples from, OR there was a known species that had actually found a way to move around in a way to make these tracks.
His concern was that the tracks in Poland didn't show consistent digit prints and he really wanted to see the samples themselves.
It is comforting that some people such as Virginia Stephenson a 16 year old artist seems to be able to understand the concepts presented by the Tiktaalik fossil well enough to produce an art piece such as that found in Sceintific American, Science-Art Scumble #27.
Another great video exposing the liars & retards. What possesses people to be so dishonest? It's a warning by example of what religious faith can do to a mind & for others to stay well clear of religion, perhaps! More superb pownage of people that are begging to be drop kicked in the bajimbas with much force! Keeping pounding these individuals TLD. They clearly don't give a fuck but people reading their shite might take notice, adjust their belief systems accordingly & stop giving them money!
Who's the girl at 21:13? o_O Holy sh**.... That's just.... I'm white and didn't think I was into those girls but I guess I just got proven wrong! Anyone knows who it is? In the bottom right corner?
I liked the video but the random images flying around is distracting, especially when some of them have nothing to do with the video other than a few words you say while the image is on the screen...weird...
"The Bible is divinely inspired and inerrant throughout. Its assertions are factually true...Its authority...includes its assertions in such fields as history and science...The account of origins presented in Genesis...provides a reliable framework for scientific research into the question of the origin and history of life, mankind, the Earth and the universe...By definition, no apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field...can be valid if it contradicts the Scriptural record." - CMI
These creationist spin doctors have no doubt also ignored the fact that Shubin and his team actually predicted where this particular fossil might be found, based on the age and nature of the rocks in that particular region. They then went out and found it. If creation 'science' had anything like that kind of predictive ability, then real scientists might grant them a little more credibility.
I keep waiting for you to make a bad video. By Holy Hallucinations 28 I am convinced I will be waiting forever. Thanks so much for these videos. I am shocked you don't have more subscriptions because you make some of the best videos on the web.
I suspect the videos are getting longer and longer, because creationists are getting bolder and bolder about promoting their shameless misrepresentations of the natural world. I honestly don't know how they can live with themselves. I can only imagine that their lust for eternal life overrides any sense of honesty or intellectual integrity they may have ever had.
Correction to first post: I hit enter when I did not mean to.
Last part should be, I can never understand how those with nearly complete ignorance of the subject about which they speak imagine they are more expert on the subject than those who have studied it in depth.
I devoured "Your Inner Fish" by Neil Shubin (a pleasure to read), share your indignation and think this video is justified! (and a pleasure to watch) :)
Where are the kitty photos!? I was waiting for cute kitty photos to distract me from the fallacious arguments. Quite disappointed I am. Don't forget next time! XOXO
@TheLivingDinosaur I'm no xenophobic but I'm starting to see that many people on the atheists side and on the OccupyWallStreet movies have Polish roots. I often read/view something what I like and then - bang Polish name pops up. I'm glad that Polish people are active in Atheist movement and in fighting for USA democracy. I always knew that we are curious nation and when given time and $ we rock :P
What Carl doesn't understand is the 99.9% of all species that have ever lived are extinct. Out of that 99.9% only a small fraction (whose percentage I'm unaware) actually have modern descendants.
Perfect pwnage to go with my morning coffee; I'm off to flush a rather large PPSimmons down the toilet!
Ah much lighter now! When I first saw that smug, censoring piece of work a.k.a. PPSimons, I lamented the lack of high-calibre video responces. Then along came TheLivingDinosaur. Hallelujah!
Reminds me of a geologist(creationist) I worked with out in the oil field claiming that radioactive dating was too inaccurate to date fossils or the age of the Earth. I wondered how in the hell he graduated from college. Or that he was able to get a job in a field that dealt with extracting oil and gas from geological formations. If I had faced palmed I would have given myself brain damage.
"Tiktaalik's message is so straight-forward that even pre-schoolers can see it...The significance of Tiktaalik is blindingly obvious to even a 5 year old."
Are creationists smarter than the average pr-schooler? Apparently not.
@Cactarpus sorry but I did not even know such a phobia exists, despite the fact that I know tons of obscure things, I was not intending to offend someone with a problem that is to be taken serious
It's incredible. Tiktaalik is, as far as I can tell, a spectacular, examplary case of evidence *for* evolution. I am amazed that anyone would take it and try to twist it the other way around. It's kinda like jumping into the caldera of an active volcano to prove that "fire is harmless".
Fire is harmless. I saw one of my friends light his arm on fire, once. No shens.
Of course, he sprayed some kind of crap all over his arm before he ignited it. I'm not sure what it was. It was something that would burn instead of his skin, so that he wouldn't injure himself, or something. But, those are just minor details. Our Creationist friends don't care about minor details.
i don't know if using "exceedingly rare" is a good idea when dealing with creationist, they might "mis"-interpret your words and make it sound as if actually believe there are some if any frogs shagging crocodiles at all
Evolutionary "stasis", I think I get it now, the original cyanobacteria found in the fossil record are the same as the ones we find today because of evolutionary "stasis". So the fossil record represents either stasis or extinction. The alternative would be that they have reproduced after their "kind" as Genesis says they would, no matter how many generations you give to cyanobacteria.
"“A population of organisms that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring but that cannot so breed with a different biological species…….God made sure that the original creatures had enough variety in their genetic information so that their descendants could adapt to a wide variety of environments.” From Refuting Evolution Chapter 4.
i know famous people confronted creationist scientist, but do you think people like you that have a science background i would call semi famous ,(well on you tube as far as atheist go)should confront these scientist as well.If someone like nephlimfree could confront scientist of course he got his butt handed to him,or why do you think it would be a waste of time.Forgive the punctuation errors i never claimed to be smart :)
Mr.TLD,I hope your health is good. Brilliant,as usual.I am Polish (last name Kujawa).I am offended by Simmons PP'ing on Poland. You have supported, enlightened, and educated me since I first subscribed.I want to entertain and enlighten you in return. What is the greatest name ever thought of for a rock band (and why?)It is the meme that makes it so beneficial to the group. It also is a simple explanation for the BS of religion (and the bible).Fifty bucks if you get the correct answer. Jim K.
@rickuj Hello Jim. As it happens I'm of Polish descent too (both sides). As for your question, I've had a little think and am drawing a blank. Care to enlighten me?
@TheLivingDinosaur I'm Polish and we have in Poland very good education system and seeing that PPS is using science made by true professionals like this is just horrible.
We started with Mikołaj Kopernik (Copernicus) and we still trying to discover more.
PPS and his crew are a morons and even I, a lawyer know more about biology than they :P - god Polish education :P
Greetings from Poland and tanks a lot for Your awesome work - like Your style - especially usage of adjectives :)
Top video as usual. Thanks so much for putting videos together on the subject of people trying to retard science and send us all back to the stone age.
PPSissy is a troll why would you make a video about him he doesn't even believe his own crap because he doesn't allow comments. Not allowing comments means he has no faith in what he says. He's afraid of criticism because he knows he's wrong.
Utterly brilliant!! Keep em coming..I'm utterly convinced the creationist wankers you respond to, will find in time that they can stop their anal seepage by ramming pages of the bible up their gaping holes.
One can only hope they achieve this before we drown in a sea of creationist bullshit. Thanks for offering them with such info, which i'm sure if they used they would work out your videos are in fact creationist anal seepage blockers. However i see no chance of that happening soon .
It's truly amazing how the human race has developed technologically in spite of religious people trying to thwart every advancement as it is made, especially given that the vast majority of people claim to be religious. It's a very good thing most of them only pay lip-service to their beliefs and don't actually practice them, or as LD pointed out, we would still be barely eking out an existence while stupidly sacrificing virgins and goats to curry favour with our angry, capricious Gods.
TLD is such a sadist........... I love it ;3

If you want creationists debunked in a straight laced fashion, seek elsewhere. TLD knows he's not going to change anyone's mind who doesn't have the integrity to follow the truth to wherever it leads. This is purely a cheerleading session for reason.
Mostlyharmless1985 2 months ago
@Mostlyharmless1985 No, I am not a creationist. I am an engineer, and you should know that science is based on mathmatical and logical truths. Do you know how to reason... if so please provide some sense of reasoning without the tired fallacies such as Ad Hominem, Begging the question, etc..... Your move chief.
FromAcrossTheDesert 2 months ago
@FromAcrossTheDesert Do you read the comments before you reply? Mostlyharmless1985 did not say you were a creationist and I can't see anyone else saying you were either. I've just finished viewing your videos and am not impressed. May I suggest a script and editing. The techniques you are using need an audience to see how well things are going down. They do not work well straight to a cameras.
x42brown 2 months ago
@x42brown Thank you for your critique. I know the production is a bit crude, but I assure you, the production of the videos is not done in order to impress anyone; they were simply produced to dispel atheist myths about Christianity. Do you have an argument to refute the videos' statements to fact. Namely "Science cannot explain everything" and "Fundamentalism does not define Christianity" and "the book of Genesis is more relevant today than ever!"
FromAcrossTheDesert 1 month ago
@FromAcrossTheDesert As I am not an atheist I would have difficulty in being certain but most atheist I know would have no difficult in accepting your statements 1 & 2 although may well be amused by your arguments for them. On the other hand statement 3 no. Any relevance to real life in any of the Pentateuch was marginal by the time it was written far less now. I won’t go through your video on that again unless you present it better so won’t enter into an argument on it.

FromAcrossTheDesert 3 months ago

It's incredible. Tiktaalik is, as far as I can tell, a spectacular, examplary case of evidence *for* evolution. I am amazed that anyone would take it and try to twist it the other way around. It's kinda like jumping into the caldera of an active volcano to prove that "fire is harmless".
InvincibleIronyMan 4 months ago
@InvincibleIronyMan
