They look like a lot of fun, but the balance is getting so ridiculous with the engine that far behind the rear axles that it's not very impressive that they're doing wheelies anymore. Getting one to lift the front wheels with a mid motor is impressive, but it's not so much anymore with these newer machines that have the motor two feet behind the rear axle. Heck, they're practically balancing on the rear wheels. It might take a while to understand the logic...

@SPRCVIDEO in all reality, it is pretty impressive that they can wheelie. a vw engine only weights about 100 lbs, and these things weigh in at about 900. granted, about 500 of that is on the rear tires, that still leaves about 400 on the front. and somthing with enough power to lift 400 pounds while driving in sand is pretty impressive. besides, the engines in these vw's would be putting out 150-200 hp. thats 6-4.5 lbs per horsepower. a corvette has about 8 lbs per horsepower.

there is no such thing as a v4 there is a I4, flat 4 such as vw and subaru's as well as a vr4 but a vr4 is a car. the hole thing with a v6 and v8 is if u were to draw a line from the top of the cylinders to the center of the crank it makes a V there is no 4 cylinder created that will make a V

I want to build a mud buggy/hunting truck out of a 2wd ford ranger v4 or v6, by stripping everything but the cab, adding a roll bar and bumper, and a small flatbed on the back, with mudder tires. Will rigging the rear drum brakes to 2 seperate levers instead of an e brake lever work for cutting brakes, just to keep from spinning out?

yes man this will work prefectly, i have actua,lly done this to my sand rail in california, i have it based on a vw beetle rear end with a highly tuned 1957 beetle engine in. i have no problems with spinning out in mud/sand because i have new locked diffs on it and huge flap tyres

Differential braking in the low travel rails. There are two levers between the seats and each one can be used to feather a little braking on each wheel. It's a must-have for maneuvering over razor-backs.

The short travel rails all have VW engines but these guys have been applying mods to them for about 30 years now. Turbos and hi-torque trannies..etc. The long travel (white rail) probably has an LS1 or LS2 Corvette in it (it was from Utah) and the one that runs with a really high pitch noise has a snow machine engine in it.

a vw motor does just fine in a l.t. as long as it fairly light. most l.t. rails are heavy because they ussally have a ls1, ls2 northstar or some other v8, and they are HEAVY.

That's good to know. I'm not really sure what is in the white rail but the LS 1 is commonly used so I was just making an assumption. Regardless, the long travels with four seats really aren't worth much without a large V-8.

oh yea the smaller ones are using the vw engines definitly. And you can tell the white long travel rail is using a ls1 because it gets up the hill much quicker if you noticed.

that could simply be because his paddles are set up better for the power of the engine and weight of the rail... but im pretty sure someone would not put a v-dub engine in a l.t. rail... if they do, it's definitely no where close to normal duty lol...

The short travel rails are running VW engines but I think that the white long travel has a Corvette LS-1. The short travels are local and the white long travel is out of Northern Utah.
